  1. Finally started playing catch up with new records today: Strangers That Clique - The Heavy After Hours Local funk/rock/hip hop/jazz band featuring my former vocal coach. I think this is their debut album. Totally self produced from my understanding. Not perfect but I dig the wealth of ideas. Kali Uchis - Orquídeas Latin American dance music of a variety of more specific sub genres, but the way Kali weaves vocal hooks together is mesmerizing. Can’t understand Spanish so idk what it’s all about but I really enjoyed it. Glass Beach - Plastic Death Prog prog prog. Basically for anyone who wishes Radiohead would pick up their guitars again and do a *real* prog opus this time (not that anything they’ve done since OKC isn’t *really* progressive imo) The Smile - Wall Of Eyes Speaking of Radiohead, may as well check in on Thom and Johnny’s side project (main project at this point?). And well? It definitely sounds a lot like I’d expect a Radiohead album to sound in 2024, but with a little more pep in its grooves and bite in its tones.
  2. Oh I don’t think any bad or too slick record is gonna change Speak Now and Red for me. I’ll definitely check those two out. Sorry you went through that, and I’m grateful Taylor helped you through.
  3. My initial Taylor craze cooled off a bit. Not super like me to go listen to everything in quick succession and I think I realized that, so I’m still just on Red and Speak Now… but wow those two records are gonna stay with me my whole life.
  4. Little Fuss - Girls At Parties Bad Idols - Popstar Jawbreaker - Dear You
  5. I got up to Moon Song on Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher before I had to stop.
  6. I feel like it wouldn’t make any sense for him to put out this song that so clearly sounds like the start of a new chapter and then not follow it up with a whole record.
  7. I just haven’t been playing a lot of albums lately. I did however listen to Radiohead’s No Surprises 22 times in a row yesterday.
  8. I think that’s part of why Speak Now hit me so much harder on first listen. It definitely feels more in tune with the colder months than Red.
  9. Taylor Swift - Red It’s like 70 degrees out today, feels suspiciously like late spring or summer. I think this works a bit better in this weather, or maybe I do.
  10. Jeff Buckley Not even listening to the music directly, just listening to podcasts and documentaries about him.
  11. Oh I was fully in the first minute I saw Live At Rome Olympic Stadium. Dancers drinking gasoline, trapeze artists in flying lightbulbs, a massive toy robot running around on stage, and all set to some of the most insane music I’d ever heard! In the words of Neil, “that’s entertainment.” Lol
  12. Sure, I just think you might enjoy it, and if not, no harm no foul.
  13. Because I think it would be up your alley.
  14. I don’t really get that reaction to seeing them live, but to each their own I suppose. Why don’t I do a ranking for the heck of it? 1. The Resistance (Over 10 years ago, someone on a different Internet forum recommended I try this to get into modern music since I was a snotty classic rock snob who loved Queen. One of the most important music recommendations I’ve ever received) 2. Origin Of Symmetry (The magic here is in its ambition. The songs are great of course, but they’re great because they take uncalculated risks in structure and tone and harmony and melody and succeed in the strangest ways, plus the riffs are just killer) 3. Drones (I got this album on vinyl a day before the official release date by calling my local record store and asking them to save me a copy till I got back from the family vacation I was set to leave for on release day. They said “I’ll do you one better, if you can stop by today I’ll sell it to you now.”) 4. Absolution (This has always competed with BH&R for me in the middle of the pack, but lately I put it slightly ahead for being a somewhat deeper experience, even if the production has always felt a little hollow to me.) 5. Black Holes & Revelations (In many ways the quintessential Muse album. Their Moving Pictures or A Night At The Opera.) 6. The 2nd Law (This album came out a few months after I first got into Muse. Madness hit number 8 on the Billboard hot 100 and I never felt more in tune with the charts.) 7. Showbiz (The Radiohead comparisons were never fairer than on here, but they were also never really fair when the more obvious influence was Jeff Buckley.) 8. Will Of The People (Refreshing, fun, concise… sorry I prefer it when they’re a bit less safe, lol) 9. Simulation Theory (I love this album, played it to death when it came out, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the home of at least two of Muse’s least lovable songs. Luckily the alternate reality disc made this a special era for the band nonetheless.)
  15. Don’t blame you for that, lol. The charts in 2008… not the best, lol.
