C'mon TK, after their first three albums, KISS as a band was dead broke, having toured non stop for three years and not seeing one check from any of the albums .. Upstart Casablanca Records was about to fold and manager Bill Aucoin was in the process of suing Neil Bogart and Casablanca .. A groundswell of fans at the grassroots level and the dedication the band and its 4 roadies put in is what gave them fame .. Not to mention a catalog of great rock and roll songs that tapped into something no other band had to that point .. Geddy himself has said that there has been no band that has worked harder than KISS .. Naturally, when a band blazes a trail as KISS did in so many ways, the spotlight will follow .. I would not confuse "success" with "hype" .... "Hype" is what a new movie receives upon its release ... Hype will carry nothing for 45 years Who overrates Kiss? Not the critics. Not the average music listener. How the hell can Kiss be overrated? They have more criticism and derision thrown their way than is fair. Kiss is underrated, if anything. Sorry, but seeing this that you wrote I really started laughing and couldn't stop it for 3 minutes. Kiss is probably the luckiest band in the history of rock music who have made it that big with such a huge following and HYPE. They are real bussinesmen and "magicians". They are just an American BRAND band. And how an American brand band can be underrated, as you said? Explain me, please. Rock And Roll All Nite is among the greatest rock anthems of all time. Kiss Alive might be the greatest live album of all time. Kiss might be the greatest live band of all time. Paul Stanley is a vastly underrated singer...criminally. Love Gun, Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, I Was Made For Loving You, these songs are classics. Also, no Kiss? No Maiden or countless other more critically appreciated bands who came afterwards and were inspired by the hottest band in the land. At least not the Maiden or whatever other band in the way we've come to know them.

Clash of 90's albums: Counterparts or Dirt?
Entre_Perpetuo replied to Texas King's topic in Feedback
Dirt is just an emotionally taxing and draining listen. Rooster is the only song on the album with any spark of hope, and it's still pretty downtrodden. I don't care for CP too much in the grander scheme of things, but I probably care for it more than Dirt. -
The ultimate showdown: JP or IM... Round Two!

Interesting the 6 Maiden albums are beating the 6 Priest albums, but the tie for the best album altogether is between three Priest albums and one Maiden album. What does that mean? -

On the other hand, if they can do this much with 3 minutes...how much can they do with 5 or 6? I'd love to hear a song on this album that takes its time a bit more. Also, Firepower is still incredible days later. I quite enjoyed Lightning Strike, but this one is like 10 times more awesome. Agreed. As much as I love both songs so far, I hope we don't get an album of 3-minute songs. I'm sure it would still be pretty awesome judging by these two tracks, but I still wouldn't mind a track or two that go beyond this approach. I'm sure there will be a couple of longer tracks at least. Here's the track lengths: 1. "Firepower" 3:27 2. "Lightning Strike" 3:29 3. "Evil Never Dies" 4:23 4. "Never the Heroes" 4.23 5. "Necromancer" 3:33 6. "Children of the Sun" 4:00 7. "Guardians" 1:06 8. "Rising from Ruins" 5:23 9. "Flame Thrower" 4:34 10. "Spectre" 4:25 11. "Traitors Gate" 5:43 12. "No Surrender" 2:54 13. "Lone Wolf" 5:09 14. "Sea of Red" 5:51 It all adds up to 58:20 Nothing that quite hits 6...but then nothing quite hits 6 on Screaming For Vengeance either. I'm only guessing but I think they've done this on purpose. I think they've made the decision to cut out any fat from the songs, so no repetitive guitar passages that just fill up space, or choruses that get extended by extra repetition that is just padding the song out. Listening to the first two songs, which are short songs anyway, it sounds like anything that's not needed has been cut out or streamlined. I love that they found both guitar solos in Firepower totally necessary. I completely agree with them.- 1787 replies

Best harmonica player in all of pop culture. Anyone better must still be obscure, underground, and local. -
It did change everyone's perception of what a guitar could do, yes, but as many guitarists that bought into that idea and achieved fame and success copying or extrapolating on EVH, many others found their own way. Let's not forget that arguably the most influential 80s band on the past nearly 20 years of music was pretty much U2, and The Edge most certainly didn't care a bit about what finger tapping or sweep picking was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8dZwXnMrRU Thank you for getting me into Bill Bailey just now.

Top three in general, so you did it right. -
That song is about serial killer Ed Gein. Who also inspired the Leatherface character from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yeah, I've read about it, that's part of what makes it so creepy.
-
So in this one the best of the best albums from each band duke it out against each other.
-
I might actually change my vote to Seasons. Dead Skin Mask is actually creepy, though a little heavy handed.

The Edge doesn't even crack most people's top 100s I'd respond directly, but others seem to have spoken for me. I agree with them.

I'll take The Edge's tonal artistry to a shredder's speed-based wankery any day. I'll tell ya......i'm not really a fan of U2 but the Edge is a classy player. EVH.......much respect. but it's ALL flash. that i do enjoy from time to time don't get me wroong. Mick I listen for his rhythm work, which is brilliant. Hot For Teacher has one heck of a riff.

Lacuna Coil had a cassette of their last album too. I think it's a thing for collectors now! I've got a cassette player a Technics double decker, I'd just get it as a souvenir though. I want to really get into Priest. Give me the best metal albums they have done. I wasn't keen on British Steel but loved Sad Wings Of Destiny. The only two I tried, although I did play Rocka Rolla once. Go to Sin After Sin next. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps_97NS8870 Yes. Sad Wings taken to its logical conclusion. But also Stained Class is wonderful.- 1787 replies

Okay, I'm gonna say it. Better than Lightning Strike. They're thrashing harder than Metallica does anymore (not a huge compliment except Priest aren't exactly known for thrashing). Also, that guitar solo...woah.- 1787 replies
