  1. I must admit, I'm relieved! I hate having to search for b-sides and rarities when so often said tracks were polished and ready for album release! One example is Nightwish. So many great songs and demo versions...so much money spent searching and collecting! Good on Rush for being so tight in the recording studio!
  2. Hard for me to put any stock in your opinion when you think Power Windows is one of the worst Rush has ever done. CA is easily better than anything before Hemispheres. If that's your attitude fine. Its hard for me to put stock in your opinion when you talk like that. A Farewell To Kings and 2112 weaker than Clockwork Angels? I would love for you to elaborate but I really couldn't care. Sorry....I came off a little harsh. I do realize music is subjective and I'm really not one of the a**es on this board. It's just hard for me to fathom how Anybody could consider Power Windows a weak record. Power and Grace are 80's classics. Okay lets be buddies! Well I am torn on PoW. It does nothing for me, I find it so...well hard to care about! The synths are so thick and for me it lacks the rock edge of Signals, the beauty of GuP and the guilty pleasure vibe of Hold Your Fire. For whatever reason, I just don't like it and I can't explain why! Its even the sort of music I enjoy, but when I play it I just fine it a chore!
  3. One day...I just know this will happen...I am gonna give Power Windows another spin and it will rule my world. The same thing happened with both Permanent Waves and Signals. I thought they were rubbish at first, now I love them both! Funnily enough, I really enjoy Hold Your Fire. I loved it from my first listen! What's up with that? Have yet to hear the other two.
  4. I get this completely. I still think its a hundred times the album Power Windows is. Marginally superior to Signals. The vocals are a big part of that! For me, the change in sound began with Moving Pictures.
  5. Well that is a nicer way to put it! Would you care to elaborate? I enjoy differing opinions tactfully communicated. And when talking about 2112, I must confess I often forget about Side B. As an album, there is a strong possibility CA tops it in my mind!

  7. Its hard to have a top five when their are about eight albums all good enough for the number one slot.
  8. Moving picture freely against glass screen like butterfly in cup. Feelings "WOW" then "Huzzah" make move emotion in soul feel fuzzy like autumn leaf rot and little squirrel sleeper. Noodles noodles very good top form seek peace! - my friend and google translate!
  9. My Indo-Nepalese-Caribbean fried Tai Shan has this to say: Big sound Rush make love happen! DVD after DVD has sound of guitar like rock from era punk ages past to modern metal polish music sound. Friend or foe band make loud noises and big attractiveness make illustrative impact and aural sound pleasure feelings! Tick-Tock Angels album very good very good! Album tour music CD sound captures firey metallic groove pushes out sound after sound of heavy bang bangs and sense of Watchmaker overbearing sonic wardrobe of colour and fluttering emotion, say, excitement? Argue not friend of band! Music play very good band top form! Chow! Chopsticks chopsticks rush band top form!! Huzzah!
  10. Right...when I first heard this album, I thought it was an instant classic. A part of me still does! But when I first heard CA I was only partially a fan of the older material, not the big fan I am now! Now that I have every album from the debut through to Hold Your Fire, I can happily say I have found many genuine masterpieces, albums that belong, not on a list of great albums, because how can anyone be compared to Rush? Rather, they are in a league of their own, and the finest are UNTOUCHABLE! 2112 A Farewell To Kings Hemispheres Permanent Waves Grace Under Pressure Then a few slightly lesser albums: Signals, Moving Pictures, Hold Your Fire, Fly By Night...good grief these '70's/'80's albums are timeless rock masterworks! When I heard them the first time, I was "meh". Then gradually I saw the light and mast of these albums are permanent favourites. As for Clockwork Angels: I can't listen to it anymore! After fully discovering the magic of vintage Rush, the newer Rush sounds so...I don't know...lifeless? It's a beautiful album, I rank it very highly in fact! But I find it hard to believe anybody could listen to AFTK of Permanent Waves and think they were inferior! Its a marvellous modern metal album, a real achievement for the band (and in the hands of any other group, it would be the pinnacle achievement of any bands career). But coming from Rush, CA is merely a good album. Five Stars to the unititiated, perhaps a three to the old timers. I love it very much, but now I am well acquainted with old Rush I am afraid its ridiculously overshadowed! But as for fans of CA having low standards...good grief! GEMINI RISING BAH HUMBUG TO YOU TOO!
  11. It's actually pronounced "one one" THIS IS THE FUNNY! HIM WANT MEDAL GIGGLE!!
  12. Could not agree any more with that statement! One could argue that every album goes over the top, but then, isn't that kind of what makes Rush, well, but Rush? I love how crazy they sound. Hemispheres went a step to far for me, but then again it might still being growing on me. Clockwork Angels is an amazing release, and is excessive nature when it comes to the arrangements and such are part of what makes it such a masterpiece! The
  13. GuP is a piece of legend! For me, as good as the first three albums are, they really grew with 2112 and then just peaked with the next few albums. Aside from Power Windows, ive been pleased with all the albums I've listened to! My two least faves are PW and the debut. The latter is still really good!
  14. So this is a really good list! We all have different opinions on what makes rush such a great band! Aside from the word awesome. We all have that in common!
  15. I think 2112 is a great album, but it was the beginning of the bands finest era, not their peak. And Mr. Narpet: I would rank A Farewell To Kings number one, Hemispheres like 8/9. Hemispheres title track just isn't the epic 2112 or Xanadu or Cygnus X-1 are. The second side is flawless. I would rank GuP in my top five...I need to get the rest now! Moving Pictures was my introduction to the band, but the similar Permanent Waves is far more spectacular to my ears. I think its good we all have opinions! I think Power Windows is forgettable and Hold Your Fire is a lot of fun. Caress Of Steel is better than Snakes And Arrows. Snakes And Arrows is still a brilliant album. Clockwork Angels is a masterpiece in need of remixing.
  16. Tai Shan is a very pretty song. I like it very much! Too much synth...but I like it very much!
  17. I am not sure how much a quid is, but you may have gotten screwed.............. I guess it's worth having since it was for charity........ ;) A quid is slang for £1. And I just played Side A. I was not expecting this: I LOVE IT! Everything I hated about Power Windows is here...only this time around I actually think it sounds great! Now I am slightly concerned about Tai Shan...have heard a lot of flack, but I will approach it with an open mind! Not a patch on A Farewell To Kings...but I am very surprised. Perhaps its the low expectations I had that made me like this!
  18. O my days! I just found Hold Your Fire for a quid on vinyl in a charity shop! Woooop! Good quality too!
  19. Miley Cyrus is a joke. I actually like her voice, for some reason, but the attention grabbing is painful. She is a spoiled brat and I just don't get it.
  20. Buckle your seat belt cause you're going for a sweet ride............. :haz: :rush: Is it really worth getting over all the albums from HYF through to FB? I am intrigued...I'm hoping to save enough money for the new boxset plus HYF but am holding back coz I am a bit strapped fo cash and need to choose carefully... Just my opinion....... I have made no secret of the fact that I really don't care for their post 85' to at least Vapor Trails period. I may the wrong person to ask. All I know is "All The World's A Stage" represents my favorite band, at their best, just reaching their prime. It is live and sounds raw and untouched. My first album purchase when I was 16 and still the best album purchase I have made in my life. It will take you back to what it might have been like for an old - timer like me to experience them live way back in the day.......... :codger: :haz: Seems when it comes to Rush we have similar taste! I think I should give it a try next...
  21. I guess this Black Sabbath album is all down to opinion (as is everything, right?). I'm not a fan...but in the UK it has gone down a treat. I guess I am quite impressed! And it can't all be hype, the last couple of albums released prior to this one hardly set the world on fire. So I guess I will give my vote to Black Sabbath. Perhaps even more so than the last Springsteen. After all, I think Rush fans new Rush still had it in them to a certain degree (perhaps not quite as much as what CA happily delivered for us!), but BS? Nah...I don't think anyone expected both the critics AND the audience to love it quite as much as they did. And as for the 13 naysayers...are they in the majority? Coz I am not so sure...after all, even CA has its detractors. Doesn't change the fact Rush released a late in the game masterwork.

  23. All The World...right...that will my next purchase methinks!
