  1. QUOTE (PuppetKing2112 @ Jan 12 2007, 08:36 PM) Okay, tell you what. I saw Scenes from a Memory checked in at the library the other day and I grabbed it, thinking maybe I should give it a second listen. And to be honest, there were a few guitar parts or whatever where I went "oh, that's cool," but overall, it just seems to be missing something. They seem like they have everything in place musically, so by all rights they should be brilliant. I want them to be brilliant. But the whole thing just seemed very cold and impersonal to me, it completely lacked the sense of "warmth" that, say, a Rush or a Yes album has. So I gave them another chance, for the first time in years, and I can see where the appeal is, but it is completely boring to me. I think that unless I have a HUGE 180 and start loving them, this is the last I'm going to say on the subject. That's an interesting subject. When scnenes first came out I didn't like it for about six months, then kinda liked it, saw it live, listened some more, then finally loved it. Now I'm sick of it. It's gotta be the most challenging album to listen to. I think it's a great piece of work overall, though. It was their breakthrough album for them like 2112 was for rush. They kept the producers out of the studio, did what they wanted and succeeded. They would have broken up for sure if that album didn't do well. And they did it on their terms...
  2. This sums up my thoughts on DT haters: HATRED=JEALOUSY I love Rush. They are my all-time fav band, but Rush isn't the be all to end all. The mind is like a parachute: It only functions when open. There are other great bands that have musical integrity besides Rush. Rush ripped off plenty of bands but seldom do people admit it on Rush forums. OK, I said it...
  3. The one where Alex' wife says he has more hair on his back than he has on his head!!! I forget the name, though... No, actually I like track one, which was the one that got airplay that Edwin (from "I Mother Earth") sang on. Edwin's cool. He's on my myspace list. lol I highly recommend "Scenery and Fish" from I Mother Earth and anything else by them. They warmed up for DT on the falling into infinity tour, which prompted me to pick up their CD...
  4. JORDAN RUDESS = GOD He makes Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman look like amateurs. I can't believe how awesome that guy is!
  5. Well... What posting would be complete without the two cents of a rotten pumpkin? Ozric Tentacles are awesome. The singer's custom flute was ripped off right off the stage nearby at Majestic Theatre and the band was extremely pissed. '02?. Another black eye for detroit. I love that band. Who's the asshat that had to scam the flute? What an idiot...

That's what makes you feel superior to males. It gives you power, and more importantly, a reason to disrespect us at any given moment. I mean how could we live without someone always putting down the toilet seat? I must say that I always have a nice stockpile of ice in my freezer, though. There might not be much else in there at times(bachelor syndrome) but there is always a pile of ice in my ice bin (which costs $1 to $3, c'mon guys) AND full trays... If your guy leaves like 1 or 2 cubes in an effort to save 7 seconds and screw the next ice-needer, then it's time for an upgrade or a divorce. Seriously...
  7. QUOTE (deadwing2112 @ Oct 22 2006, 06:18 PM) Flirtin with Disaster?? Sweet tune!!!!
  8. QUOTE (tyranny @ Oct 22 2006, 12:05 PM) Anyone remember Aretha Franklin riding on the Freeway of Love in her pink Cadillac? Hell yeah, I remember that video... I live in detroit and got to run thru the same mixing board she and lots of motown artists did (years later, of couse). It's a magical board lol. rolling stones did a video where they were all standing around the board. It's a Trident mixing board, custom.... OK, I'm sure you peeps don't care, but here's a low-res vid capure of the video I'm talking about: http://www.rockcitystudio.com/images/steve_keith.gif Here's another one but with Foghat using the same board. A quite famous board in Detroit. lol http://www.rockcitystudio.com/images/october05/at_the_console.jpg
  9. QUOTE (deadwing2112 @ Oct 27 2006, 06:01 PM) A song about a muscle car the became possessed by demons? Doesn't Stephen King write a book about something like that? That's Christine. This one is based on a movie, but I forget the title. There are samples from the movie in the song. I'm just the drummer. It's got a cool guitar lead for the kid being only 12 when he wrote and played it, imho... Why in the world doesn't the dude like Red Barchetta? That's one of the coolest tunes of all time! I figure if he can hate RB I can like SSD...
  10. Super Speed Demon - SimplySick A song about a muscle car the became possessed by demons... Super Speed Demon Autoplay My other fav: Highway Star
  11. Live at the Marquee is awesome if you like Metropolis and A Fortune in Lies.
  12. QUOTE (Slime @ Sep 26 2006, 08:11 PM) I picked up "Awake" for eight bucks and like it...ok. Wasn't blown away to such a degree that I rushed out to get the rest of it. If I were to get any other DT album next, which should it be? Keeping in mind that I won't go over 22 normally for a single disc unless it is full. Albums vary wildy from each other, so you might need to identify what sound you like, whether it's more metal or more progressive, etc. and we can then make a recommendation based on that. My fav's are Images and Words, Train of Thought, Octovarium and metropolis 2. In retrospect, I loved when day and dream unite, but that was in 1990, so I was 22yo and DT had no other albums, only majesty demos which weren't available to the public yet...
  13. QUOTE (reani14 @ Sep 2 2006, 06:23 PM) that looks like scott peterson sitting next to alex... iam still shocked that alex acted that way. you would never think that would happen from those rush guys. they re always so quite. i was thinkin the same thing. that's his son justin, right?
  14. QUOTE (OneHalf-D @ Sep 12 2006, 05:27 PM) ...Agree to the above post. Score makes up for the poor performance on the Budokon disc and highlights DT on a very good night. J.LaBrie sounds better than he has in a very long time. Rush could learn a little something about producing a quality DVD from DT. To the person looking for more DT to buy, Scenes From A Memory is a must have. well said. their performance was stellar. That's always paramount in making a great dvd
  15. I'm not well studied, but I love Blackout!! Awesome tune!
  16. QUOTE (NinjaRider @ Sep 11 2006, 06:41 PM) I'd love to see them just to hear Steve Howe play.He had some really great solo's on the first two Asia albums before he left. The guy is amazing.I've seen him on his solo tour and with Yes...never thought Asia would get back together though. Of course, they are'nt coming near Turdsville,Ky... When I saw Asia for one dollar the highlight of the show was deifnately Steve Howe playing solo acoustic on "the clap" and "mood for a day". Worth every penny, I'll tell ya!. Come to think of it, I think Howe was about the only original member of Asia that tour...
  17. "Score" is their best DVD to date. I'd dare to say it's one of the best music dvd's I own, and I've been collecting since 1997. Right up there with rush R30. If you're a DT fan don't hesitate to get it. Like, today!
  18. I saw them in detroit for one dollar. that's the only way they could get people to go to detroit! j/k
  19. CHEERS TO LED ZEP! In thru the outdoor was one of the first albums I studied as a young drummer. Incredibly awesome band. Definately important to rock music and metal. I've never heard any band more imitated than zep, by a long shot. Jimmy Page and Plant recorded at a local studio in detroit (where my band recorded recently) and they just plugged in: no excuses, no expensive gear, no attitudes, just an sm58 and a fender twin reverb. That's what I call professional! Zeppelin deserves every penny they ever made. Too bad Bonham had to leave b4 his time...
  20. Forensic files Case files of Dayle Hinman Parco P.I. Punk'd Judge Joe Brown
  21. QUOTE (tick @ Aug 31 2006, 09:27 AM) QUOTE (the_masked_drummer @ Aug 31 2006, 10:21 AM) Thanks Tick, I also saw the reviews on amazon, which concur with my guitarist's recollection of the show. Plus, the extras incld history will be nice. I talked to a girl on MySpace studying at Berklee and she said the core members' signatures are on the wall there on a plaque, which is kinda cool. Can't wait to see these discs!!!!! you know the crazy thing is i totally could have been at that show but i didnt feel like going by myself so i passed in favor of the connecticut show for which i had 3rd row center. i had no idea what i was missing, im still kicking myself for that blunder. DOH! JOHNNY SAID IT WAS AMAZING! I figured I'd seen them enough but I kicked myself in the butt for not going, too! lol Oh well, at least we've got the dvd...(a constant reminder of what we missed)

  23. QUOTE (fledgehog @ Aug 28 2006, 09:51 PM) I now know what DVD I'm getting after score: That would be Images & Words live in Tokyo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-P2gDZjGeU ^^that just gave me chills. That's about the same show I saw them play a few times when they first started touring (like 4 shows in a year), when James joined. They started every show with Metropolis (my fav) and it was definately a spine-chilling show! I'd highly recommend that dvd. It has 5 years in a livetime on it, too. Great price as well!!!!
  24. Howz the new DVD? My guitarist went to that show in NY & said it was incredible. I can't wait to buy and watch it, but I've had band practice every single night. Any reviews? I haven't had time to read the posts. Tick, I'm sure you've watched it, eh? Thanks -TMD
