  1. QUOTE (KenJennings @ Dec 19 2007, 10:48 AM) Colors is really solid. I've been hearing rumors they might tour with DT and Opeth this spring. The tour with DT and Opeth is a done deal as far as I know. 3 is also on the bill. Should be a great tour.
  2. QUOTE (treeduck @ Dec 19 2007, 02:43 AM) QUOTE (tangdog @ Dec 18 2007, 08:44 PM) This is the first group I like that growls for what its worth. Do you not like Opeth Tangy? Strapping Young Lad? Amon Amarth? What about some of the vocals on Buckethead and Friends? I do like Devin Townsend and I have heard some growls out of him but what I have heard by Devin thus far is not as "growly" as BTBAM. Then again I only own one Devin disc- Synchestra. Only have heard a few songs by SYL including U Suck. I have heard some Opeth but never really got into what few songs I heard. Maybe I should pick up one of their Steve Wilson produced discs and give it a shot In terms of Amon Amarth, I've heard the name but never any music. Unfortunately I don't have Buckethead and friends yet. Maybe I should hurry up and get it as I hear its becoming hard to find. I guess I am starting to appreciate the growling as a outlet but its the music that does it for me with BTBAM. A part of me just thinks the growling is funny, like when the singer for August Burns Red was warming up in stage I could not resist a chuckle.

  4. QUOTE (Rush! @ Dec 18 2007, 08:28 PM) My drum teacher played me a few snippets of some tracks from Colors tonight. Very interesting stuff. Extremely heavy bass, and a really neat drum solo in one of the songs. I wasn't fond of the growling though... may have to ask for this for Christmas.. Yeah, the drummer is top notch. This is the first group I like that growls for what its worth. All the lighter vocals came across very well too live. The energy they put out collectively as a group was pretty f@cking intense, ...can't say enough good things about this disc. Their name is taken from a line in some Counting Crows song??
  5. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Dec 18 2007, 02:32 PM) QUOTE (daveyt @ Dec 17 2007, 09:10 PM) sam adams winter lager sucks I agree. Finishing a bottle is a chore. Yeah, SA is nothing special anymore. I hope Sierra can maintain its integrity, its about the biggest brewery thats still good IMO.
  6. QUOTE (treeduck @ Dec 18 2007, 05:08 PM) QUOTE (tangdog @ Dec 16 2007, 11:41 PM) Treeduck, I have just walked in from seeing Between the buried and me. I think that was the most "important" metal show I have seen since Megadeth on the So Far, So Good, So What tour. Absolutely groundbreaking. Have you checked these guys out or my btbam thread? I really like the two tracks I've heard (on myspace - White Walls & Sun of Nothing) so I decided to pick up the album, good call mate!
  7. QUOTE (treeduck @ Dec 18 2007, 05:11 PM) I picked up Colors at my local beat bop, rinky dink phonographic shop, sounds like a good purchase... Way to go! I truly think and hope it will grow on you.

Now Buckethead has released 5 brand new Death Cube K albums!! http://travisdickersonmusic.com/store/mono_8.jpg I'll have to think about this one, I'm not the biggest DCK fan but still... Holy shit! Not sure how I feel about Death Cube K, I bought the personalized DCK release but don;t listen to it htat much. Treeduck, I have just walked in from seeing Between the buried and me. I think that was the most "important" metal show I have seen since Megadeth on the So Far, So Good, So What tour. Absolutely groundbreaking. Have you checked these guys out or my btbam thread? I've dialled up their myspace site and I'm listening...what's the story with these guys then? Meanwhile my Chicken Noodles 2 and CD version w/cover of Cyborg Slunks is on the way... Well BTBAM is almost too heavy for me but after a couple minutes of growls they typically break into some really killer progressive jams. Really exciting and energetic jams, its hard to describe but I they are breaking some new ground?? Exceptional musicians, I was was right in front of the lead guitarist most of the set. Certainly a contender for if not the best disc of the year. I need to get my shit togther and do a massive TDRS order after the first of the year.......... They have quite a few tracks from the album on their myspace page, I quite enjoyed that, they sound a little like Strapping Young Lad crossed with Iron Maiden with progessive elements and even fusion moments, sounds pretty good, I'll have to think about this a little more... As far as Bucket goes, I've got all the 2007 Buckethead albums now apart from the 5 DCK's and the Black DCK...I'm not sure about them... Can you believe the amount of material he comes out with though?? No, 2007 has to be the year of the bucket. I bought Peppers ghost, personalized ISOT, Blueprints and the first DCK. Definitely got sidetracked by Porcupine Tree and BTBAM in the latter part of the year though. I would love to go the James Brown tribute Buckethead is doing with Bootsy but its just too far to make the trip.

  11. Well that was one hell of a show. I hope someone else caught this tour as it was unfucking beleivable. They played most of Colors, Mordecai, a cover by Sepultura and what may have been Selkies ( not sure on that one ) Great players. They will be opening along with 3 for Dream Theater and Opeth this spring.

  13. QUOTE (Tull Fan Too @ Nov 29 2007, 01:38 PM) I just recently bought The Anatomy Of and Colors due to this thread. The cover album is kind of uneven IMO (I love "Blackened" and "Us and Them", but can hardly stand "Bicycle Race"), but Colors is very good, and is growing on me the more I listen to it. Thanks to the original poster for starting this thread. Glad you like Colors! Less than three weeks to the show.
  14. Just had my third sip...yum. Let the holiday beer season begin !
  15. Yet another vintage tanger......... old school 1991 Saucers from the pongmasters ball
  16. QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Nov 15 2007, 02:01 PM) QUOTE (tangdog @ Nov 14 2007, 08:56 PM) for snow!!! The season is not off to a good start out west......... Too dry or too warm? Both but most too dry, takes alot of snow to cover up up the rocks. Two resorts are open here now but for how much longer....highs near 70 next week. Great Mountain Biking weather.
  17. QUOTE (treeduck @ Nov 19 2007, 09:36 PM) Shawn Lane is amazing yes... Yeah, he sure is. definitely need to pick up some of his music. I read that his last show was in the Asheville area back in 2003....... just before I moved here... I'm sure you have recommended Shawn Lane to me before, but about a year ago, you said check out Jeff Sipe. Jeff was playing in this video with Shawn and it was exceedling intense. He's playing here on New Years eve but doudt if I go that evening. I think my next 3 buckethead purchases will be Cyborg Slunks, Elephants Mans Alarm Clock and Thanatopsis- Axiology..........
  18. QUOTE (treeduck @ Nov 16 2007, 04:10 PM) Picked up my Bucketheads today from the Post Office depot! Cyber Slunks is great, it's like the ultimate volume of ISOT. The great thing about this album is it has acoustic guitar shredding which is a nice twist. track 1 - A crazy shredfest in the Big B tradition, like a track off ISOT with a little bit of Eddie's Eruption thrown in near the start... Good one. track 2 - Is a wild acoustic melee, going from the acoustic interludes on Bucketheadland 2 (without the taxidermy vocals) to Colma to The Black Forest to Acoustic Shards and to new virgin acoustic shredding places. track 3 - blues/funk groove session, not bad, great tone... track 4 - Probably along with track 2 the best track on here, great mellow yet powerful tune, like a cross between Electric tears and Plastination Station track 5 - Back to the experimental stuff, cool and interesting wacky Buckethead guitar festival, excellent. I really love the spooky scary power chords dropped in at odd intervals alongside the chill-a-minute esperimental lead breaks. Little metal guitar riff here, cool cleaner chords there, Van Halen trick here, scary Bucket chops there. This is great for Halloween even if it is too late now... If this were volume 14 of ISOT it'd be the best volume, a great album this is better than I thought it'd be. I'm very impressed. I've not yet listened to DTTOTB or Kevin's Noodle House, I'll get there though... Great review....can't wait to hear it. I have passed on this round of releases thus far as I kinda got detoured by Porcupine Tree this fall... and now by Between the buried and me. Probably will get at least the Cyborg Slunks..... probably should hurry up if I wanted the limited edition. Looking forward to your impressions of the other two. PS- I was watching a video of Shawn Lane playing with Jeff Sipe the other night, now I know why you recommended checking him out. Wow.

  20. Actually its more likely to be a Dutch highway.... IMO all imports are hit or miss. I had tried Grolsch many times in the past and thought it was nothing special. Then one day I go ahold of a fresh batch and it was completely different...... and quite tasty. I am not willing to take my chances with imports these days but wanted to offer a differing opinion on the quality of Grolsch. When I finally got a fresh bottle, how suprised i was!
  21. for snow!!! The season is not off to a good start out west.........
  22. Yuengling..at a furious rate
  23. Colors just may be the best disc of the year and certainly in the top 5...
