  1. i don't like instrumental music in general. i don't even like it much when zappa does it. so like Weather Report. Brand X Miles Davis. not my cup of tea. I don't mind when someone puts an instrumental or two on an album but a full album of it......yawn. Mick
  2. Frank Zappa-Over Nite Sensation (9/10) this right here is the start of my fav zappa band/era. the next incarnation of the Mothers Frank Bruce Fowler Ian Underwood Ruth Underwood Tom Fowler George Duke Ralph Humphrey Tis incarnation blows the Originals mothers away for me. they could play literrally anything. This lineup lasted 4 or 5 years but killer stuff. Mick
  3. as a result of all the praise i'm taking my time getting to it. i mean i know it's great but i'm just gonna not play it yet.......stupid of me but i HATE hype, lol listen i know it's dumb as fukk but i work how i work. and also i'm kinda waiting till i forget the singles.....heard them too much and i want to play the full record. ALSO ALSO i'm too engrossed in Zappa land that anything uh....normal i might scoff at right now. Mick
  4. i kinda wanna do Zappa problem is how I may start with my fav run of albums. or i can go whole hog. or posthumous stuff. i dunno but i want to do it in some form, lol i'm gonna attempt it in some way. it may be just ranking my top 10 or 15. Mick
  5. Zappa's a lot, lol. BTW i love that halloween set. it's good. but i just pick and choose which concert i put on. i've never binged it all at once. But yea my view is zappa from like 73 to his death was pretty consistant. the 80's you kind of have to pick and choose.......BUT in my opinion he never full out crashed and burned like a lot of 70's artist did in that decade. But yea that 60's/early 70's stuff is rough for me. Mick
  6. Frank Zappa Freak Out (8/10) Absolutly Free (8/10) We're Only in it For The Money (10/10) Cruising With Ruben And the Jets (7/10) Weasels Ripped My Flesh (6/10) Burnt Weeney Sandwich (7/10) Chunga's Revenge (8/10) Yea know i love Zappa to death one of my all time fav artists. but these really early albums with the original Mothers and the Flo and Eddie stuff is my least fav period's. i mean there's gems in here like the We're only in it....Album is fun and my fav from this period but a lot is just not too enjoyable for me. Stuff's important but not what i love in Zappa. too me it's over-nite Sensation and on where he started his golden period. from there i just love almost everything. Mick
  7. you know at this point i feel like even if your a casual fan and you've heard like 4 albums. you should just rank whatever your heart feels at that moment. if it's yourr fav say it. you could always change later after some plays. that's what i've been doing. i said firepower was top 5 like a week or two in. that's generous it was top in less than that, lol and if i was gonna switch it then i was gonna switch it. but it's how i felt in the moment. and it just so happens it held true 4 years on. yes you need to time for things to settle but if it's your fav right off say it. if it sucks right off say it. yes the astonishing was my number 2. cause that's the way i felt. but it changed. Mick
  8. i'm saying the same about saviors bro. FOA is a fun wacky excursion. Savours is almost an apology after some backlash. it's safe. Haven't played it since release day honestly. Mick
  9. Paradise Lost-Host (9/10) This one to me seems a bigger leap intoa new era. One second was synthy but still contained lots of live drums and instruments and still had the organic band feel. this has a band feel too but it's a full on trip-hop trance band. I'd heard this prior when i couldn't stand ANY doom or harsh vocals in metal. and i took too it right away. and coming back to it i love it more. it's not perfect. some songs have ambient build ups where i just wish they'd sing already but minor quibble i love this record. Mick
  10. Paradise Lost-One Second (8/10) ..............This album is not that Scary out there, lol but At the time i guess yea. I like it. and i was wary of this "Wacky experimentaal"phase. Zappa this ain't, lol Mick
  11. oh wow......ok......so we'll start sort of in the accessable years (as acsessable as zappa go lol). Try Over-nite Sensation. Mick
  12. Paradise Lost Paradise Lost (8/10) In Requiem (9/10) Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us (10/10) Tragic Idol (10/10) OK so my fav of this bunch was actually Tragic Idol. that album is just fantastic. Faith Divides us is great as well and i gave it a 10. i just found TI just a little more enjoyable. The self Titled is a weird ass album. They seriously sound like odd duck pop Metallica. and hear me it it works BUT they were moments on that album where i swear things nearly go off the tracks Mick
  13. ok so i'm familiar with this band. i've heard mostly every album album except from the very early and more recent ones. i've gone back and started at the self titled. What a great album to re-esrablish a band. It's consistant enough for older but it's coommercial enough for new fans. One tiny note going through this bands history. The drum seat may has well had a an ejector seat on it. It's like recently........"ok one or two albums......get da fukk out i wouldn't want that job. i mean until Medusa. BUT......new on the icon re-record. i'm Nitpicking but it does make tons of albums have different feel. Mick
  14. Kings Of Leon Walls (9/10) When You See Yourself (4/10) One of their most underrated tuneful albums (Walls) Followed up with a true disappointment. A tired tune-less dirge of a Album (WYSY) On the plus side i LOVE the new single. maybe they recharged. Mick
  15. i'm not a huge fan of this band but i did enjoy reading this. Mick
  16. they are weird. they're metal....bbut they're not. they're pop....but they're not. they're blue-sey.....expect when they're not. BOC.......just are. lol. Mick
  17. Blue Oyster Cult-Mirrors (8/10) True it's not my fav BOC i think i like the first 3 plus Spectres and Fire of Unknown Origin. WAY more than this but it's a still enjoyable. HOWEVER i can play devil's advocate and realize why it's low with a lot fans. it's just a cut or two below my fav BOC, Mick
  18. i've heard fans say it's too castrated and slick. some fans won't go beyond the first 3. BOC fans are all different in their cut off points though. Mick
  19. irt's really not. it's low on many fans list. i love it, BTW. Mick
  20. it's ok. he's not for everyone. i enjoy his arrangements more than his humour and lyrics which is mostly toilet stuff. oh and i LOVE his guitar work. The lyrics do not even register to me. I've been trying Miles Davis and i have a similar reaction you do to Zappa. i respect him but god was i annoyed the ENTIRE time. lol. Mick
