    Alex Shredding

Maybe not with Gong, but listen to his soloing on 'Live Herald' from 77/78, especially the closing solo on Hurdy Gurdy man - that's some of the most fluid soloing you'll ever hear & although I hate the term 'shredding', Hillage can out-shred a lot of the usual suspects hands down

  4. We were there to make sure they didn't win though!
  5. Couple of things: 1 - 3 musicians, either in, or nearing their 60's have just released a cracking new album they're (rightly) proud of & want to play virtually in it's entirety. 2 - the same 3 musicians, instead of rolling out the same tunes again, decide to play a bunch of songs rarely (if ever) played in the past 3 - the same 3 musicians are maybe getting just a tad tired of playing the same songs every tour 4 - one of said 3 musicians would need a tank of helium & a G clamp on his genitals to even attempt the vocal register he had 35 years ago (the shame of it - not being able to retain a falsetto into his late 50's) 5 - said musicians (BTW, I'm referring to here...) are still playing longer sets than most of their contemporaries & playing them well 6 - arguably, they play progressive rock... this is what they're doing... progressing 7 - you want the same songs year after year? Go see the Rolling Stones. QUOTE (CygnusGal @ Oct 1 2012, 05:47 PM)You had the experience with RJD (RIP Ronnie). I had a similar experience with Tull. Fortunately Ian is still with us, but Tull today bares little resemblance to Tull of bygone days. As an aside - I've seen Tull on most of their tours in the last 30 years & unfortunately, the last 15 years has seen Anderson's voice deteriorate to such a degree that he can no longer hold a tune in a bucket
  6. Customers were occasionally put off by the Korean restaurant's door knocker BTW in the unlikely event htis wins, I'll take it as an honorary as I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks
  7. I nearly did the same when I saw the photo!

  10. QUOTE (VampireBiscuits @ Jul 13 2012, 01:17 PM) Normally horror movies don't get to me that much but ones involving hauntings or paranormal activity are the movies that freak me out the most. I agree with you about Dakota Fanning, I think Miko Hughes (Gage from Pet Sematary, Dylan from New Nightmare) came from the same creepy kid factory. That brat has been giving me nightmares for years. Aha - you used the 2 words which always pique my interest (and I'm not talking about "vampire biscuits" ... mind you... )... Paranormal Activity. Wasn't originally keen on the first movie, but the second blew me away & by the time I got to the third & you get to see the whole story in context, I was hooked. Very simple idea, very effectively done. Can't believe though I forgot one of my top 10 films of the last few years (horror or otherwise): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ab/30_Days_of_Night_teaser_poster.jpg/220px-30_Days_of_Night_teaser_poster.jpg Beautifully filmed (the opening sequence with the ship at dusk is stunning), impeccably acted, and a completely new take on the vampire genre. Josh hartnett is the 'star' (and very good he is, too), but Danny Huston steals every scene - he may have been a good villain in 'Edge Of Darkness' (another great movie btw): http://www.wearysloth.com/Gallery/ActorsH/21462-29077.jpg ...but in 30 days Of Night... whoa! http://filmstokeepyouawake.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/danny-huston.jpg OK, OK, I'm gushing, but I can't tell you how much this film gave me faith in modern horror
  11. QUOTE (goose @ Aug 8 2012, 10:51 AM) QUOTE (pedro2112 @ Aug 8 2012, 10:30 AM) Thank god they didn't include the Tom Bombadil part in the movie. Would have been a film ruining disaster, and would have sucked, cinematically. That and the scouring can easily be skipped when reading the books. Hmm - personally I disagree; OK, Bombadil's ommission wasn't too bad (PJ worked the story round that one OK), but I really think the scouring is an integral part in a "just when you think you're out of the sh**" way & it also fleshes out Wormtongue's character. ...Christopher Lee was (apparently) furious when he found out the scouring was ommited from the screenplay & the issue nearly became a deal breaker for him (apart from anything else, he's a major Tolkein scholar & authority on all things Middle Earth)
  12. QUOTE (CygnusGal @ Aug 6 2012, 06:07 PM)Oh god, please no Silmarillion movie. That'd be the most boring thing Especially if it sparks interest in a certain band...
