  1. Just been listening to The Camera Eye, the guitar solo is amazing! Been thinking on this, others may disagree; Moving Pictures has awesome soloing, Signals does. Grace Under Pressure not so apart from Kid Gloves. Power Windows has some incredible solos then after that on Hold Your Fire, Presto and Roll The Bones the guitar solos tend to disappear.
  2. I first heard Natural Science, Christmas Eve 1979.

    Neil a phony??

Ha ha, this just out about Van Halen; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3133086/Eddie-Van-Halen-says-bandmate-David-Lee-Roth-does-not-want-friend-60-year-old-act-age.html
  4. Dreamline; like the intro and verse but that 'We are Young' bit just makes me think of Pat Benatar.

    Neil a phony??

Oddly enough, in the early 80's had to choose between seeing Ted Nugent or Van Halen. I picked Ted, wished I gone to Van Halen.

Amen. Need a clean sweep, start overYep, hoping the Greeks pull out of the Euro. The only country that got it right was Iceland.

    Neil a phony??

The world at the moment is populated by crap politicians both left and right, owned by big corporations and media barons. But it is Americans who seem obsessed with left versus right, the word libertarian replacing Communist. Here in Australia I didn't vote for the first time as we had a terrible 'left wing' government and replaced it with a terrible 'right wing' government. In the words of Neil Peart, 'plus ca change...

    Neil a phony??

why would that be? There are many artists that have done/said things I may not agree with, but it doesn't make me hate their music. Axl Rose is a dink, but I still like GnR's music. I don't agree with James Taylor on a lot of political things, but I still like his music. It's possible to look at the 2 things independently, it's what separates us from the animals :) John Lennon is my favorite songwriter and singer. I think he was manipulated politically, became a mouthpiece, and stated some positions I totally disagree with. I still love the man's music. Sometimes musicians and artists say stupid things that contradict what their music seemingly projects. Debate, discuss, argue, it's what fans do. I was actually thinking of The Beatles and the 'bigger than Jesus' quote.

Well maybe it's time to burn all your Rush albums.

Can we have a poll and vote this the most boring Rush thread ever.
  12. Broading in the tower, Watching o'er his land... I can hear Metallica
  13. What if Moving Pictures had started with Witch Hunt would people have said it's a synth album?
  14. In the eighties all the big rock bands changed their sound due to synths and digital recording. The drums sounded like someone hitting Tupperware, bass went trebly and guitarists used that awful compressed chorus sound. I personally hated it but bands such as Genesis, Yes and Queen sold more records with this sound than their 70s incarnations did unfortunately. Rush were no different.

    Clockwork Angels

I'd go with Goose, can live without all those songs in the middle; Carnies, The Wreckers, 7 Cities of Gold and Headlong Flight. Headlong Flight sounds more like Headlong Fight, to me it's a mess, starts off great.
  16. I would rather call it the progpop era. Most of the 'prog' bands went down this road in the eighties. Yes bought in The Buggles then an out and out rock guitarist; Trevor Rabin. Genesis let the drummer take over to make cheesy mainstream pop/rock.
  17. I don't think there are any more keyboards on Signals than there are on Moving Pictures, just the production is different.
  18. The first four tracks are fine but then I end up skipping to The Garden because the sound becomes 'wearing'. Have Hemispheres on SACD and bought the reissue vinyl for the poster that I lost from the original. Broon did such an amazing job, it all sounds loud and clear. I can't handle Geddy's voice on those middle tracks from Carnies to BU2B2, it's a weird wail and that wall of sound is too full on.
  19. Er, you're a bit behind. Just received Hemispheres today, going to get the poster framed this time around.
  20. Both songs have dodgy choruses which let them down, worst being Neurotica whooooaaaaahhh.
  21. Listening to it as we speak, Alex's guitar tone is awesome and poster. Some weirdness between The Trees and La Villa sound wise.
  22. It's part of the trio; Hold Your Fire, Roll the Bones and Presto, that I find really frustrating. The songs on all three adopted this stop start song construction. It was like don't play that part for too long and you have songs with good parts let down by cringey bits.
  23. I bought the SACD version of Hemispheres and it's awesome. Bought Sectors 3 and was disappointed. For me the best versions of the songs are on a compilation called Rush - Gold. Looks like someone did some basic EQ and balanced the songs from the various albums nicely.
  24. Yep, I forgot AFTKs had an insert/poster. Don't think any of the other albums had a poster. Best Rush poster I had was the double neck/Xanadu picture that was from Exit Stage Left, sadly no longer available.
  25. Awesome to know, will frame the poster this time as well as the sort of poster I got with A Farewell to Kings.
