Mum passed away about 50 mins ago. We had left the hospital to come home - we're about 1 and 1/2 hours away - and had been home 5 mins when a nurse called.

No idea right now. The curtains are shut, but it was overcast and drizzly here.

Thank you Orfie, Babycat and Cat3.

Thank you guys! There has been little change since my last update. Very now and then she moves a bit. The nurses said it's because she is uncomfortable/in distress. They give her morphine and other end of life meds to make her comfortable. They are talking about moving her either to the hospice or a different care place. It all depends on whether there is a bed available with nurses that can administer the meds. Also if she has a sudden deterioration they might decide that it won't be a good idea to move her. Part of me hopes the hospice can take her in as that's what she asked for before the strokes. Just waiting, really.

Earlier today mum was rushed to hospital. She has had another, bigger stroke, at the brainstem. She is breathing heavily and moves as if she's asleep and dreaming but is otherwise unresponsive. The doctors said she has about 24 hours. We spent most of the day with her but have come home to get some sleep.

Update: Mum has a chest and water infection. She is on 3 types of antibiotics. We noticed that she seemed short of breath. She has also had two chest x-rays and theychave confirmed that it is a combination of the chest infection and tumours in her lungs. She also seems to get mixed up with what day it is.

I'm glad the therapist is standing up for her, too. Specialist care sounds like a good thing. It turns out the nurses didn't think she was ready either.

They have been giving mum more tests. They think she may have a water infection. They will do more therapy on her and arrange specialist stroke care for at home instead of the crappy re-enablement team that we were having to put up with. This specialist care is orientated to stroke patients. She should never have had re-enablement care as that's for people who WILL DEFINITELY get better. Apparently her Occuptaional Therapist was pissed that they sent her home early too.

So mum was sent home - against our wishes. She was there for about an hour before having another fall and needing an ambulance again. They have since taken her back to the rehabilitation centre. We knew she wasn't ready.

It's on my birthday and I can't get there! :(
-
One thing we noticed: she seems short of breath.
-
Thank you BluesChica! We got home about ten minutes ago. She's comfortable... about the same as she was last time we visited. Maybe a bit more chatty.
-
Thanks guys! We are going to see her tomorrow.

To update a rather convoluted story: Mum was sent home last Friday but didn't do so well. She has been taken into a rehabilitation clinic, which used to be a small hospital on the outskirts of our home town. She will be there for a few weeks. After that, we are not sure. It will depend on how she responds.

Bean-tor!! I'm glad your doing good even though you've been a busy Bean! You've designed and built your own house?? Awesome!

Continued thoughts, prayers and hugs your way today. Thank you Cat 3.

I'm glad to hear this! Eagle Moon! :hi: The problem is she is doing better in some things but not others.
-
The thing we're wondering is: Will she recover before the cancer takes over? Don't worry, I know we'll just have to wait and see.

Visited mum at home today. She is still pretty frail obviously but her speech has improved a little And she seemed more chatty.
