BTBAM appears to be a hard sell on this forum. keep in mind this thread is about 5 years old and only 5 pages long. its not easy music to digest but i dig the energy. I really don't know why this band isn't more famous in prog circles. I dn't know how they fare in the metal world, but I am really surprised Colors is not a top 100 album on PA, and this one just tops Colors, IMO. Another piece of music from them I think is sublime but too short and should've been used on this album: mirrors. Just the second half. It fits perfectly on this album, but whatever. I guess it's the vocals. Everything else is so perfect, I really don't get why it's not more famous on this board or like I said, in the prog world. I might well pick this one up after all, I like the concept album idea and I like "Astral Body" and the official video for it. Plus I persevered with the other song available on youtube "Telos" and I like it better now. Astral Body is the worst song on the album, excluding filler, yet it's amazing. The rest of it just mind-numbing and fun, making Astral Body look normal.
  2. QUOTE (treeduck @ Oct 11 2012, 05:25 PM) QUOTE (default236 @ Oct 11 2012, 05:00 PM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Oct 11 2012, 03:36 PM) Here's a cool example of Guthrie demonstrating lost of different styles. The Winter 2005 edition of UK Guitar mag 'Guitar Techniques' revealed winners of a readers poll, identifying the best players (in the humble opinions of many GT readers) at certain techniques. Master Guthrie then wrote and recorded a (rather superb) piece of music in the style of all of the consequent winners. To answer the inevitable questions, the results were as follows; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUXk2ZrgcQM Best chord voicings - Eric Johnson Best use of capo - James Taylor Best strumming - Pete Townsend Best use of E-Bow or sustaining device - The Edge Best vibrato - BB King Best string bending - David Gilmour Best finger picking - Mark Knopfler Best hybrid picking - Albert Lee Best tapping - Eddie Van Halen Best palm muting - Al Di Meola Best sweep picking - Yngwie Best speed, Best alternate picking, Best string skipping - Paul Gilbert Best pinched harmonics - Zakk Wylde Best use of an effect - Tom Morello Best legato - Satch Best fretting hand reach, Best use of harmonics - Steve Vai Best use of slide - Sonny Landreth Best feel - Jeff Beck Best timing - John Scofield Most creative/experimental player, Best use of whammy bar, Overall winner - Jimi. I've seen this, but I could never find it again, thanks!! Marco Minneman has been posting updates since this announcment and it just keeps getting cooler and cooler!! I'm looking forward to this album more than any other at the moment... As am I.

  7. QUOTE (fledgehog @ Oct 7 2012, 07:52 PM) I've got a lot of catching up to do on 2012 releases -- been too busy to keep up! My favorites so far have been Flying Colors' self-titled, Circa Survive's newest, Ben Folds Five's return album, The Gaslight Anthem- Handwritten, John Mayer's Born and Raised (barely left my car CD player for the entire month of June), Metric's Synthetica, the new Rush (obviously), and The Tallest Man on Earth's There's no Leaving Now. Circa Survive's is awesome! Just saw them last week.
  8. I think it is an amazing album, screw all the haters So yeah, those past few posters, I agree with y'all.
  9. QUOTE (Queslington @ Oct 1 2012, 03:52 PM) If I had Facebook, I would like it. I watched the videos, good stuff. Thanks! I hear you though, I really disdain Facebook and didn't wanna use it, but succumbed because it seems it's the only way to get a fanbase these days.
  10. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Oct 1 2012, 09:14 AM) Done! Thanks! Did you check out the vids there?

  12. Well there are two short vids of my band up there, and if you want other stuff I'll gladly e-mail it. We're playing mores shows and recording and are really starting to pick up some local fans. We started the Facebook page a while ago but just recently got around to using it, so check it out, and you'll hear a lot more from us soon. It's just instrumental/experimental/ prog music. Nothing too crazy, but you might hear something you like, and if not stick with us because we will be offering a lot more!
  13. I'd pay triple that price to see those musicians

  21. QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Sep 11 2012, 01:39 AM) http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/drbirdsong/l.jpg Don't mean to be controversial here, but this whole f***ing thing happened because of religion. And f**k, that's too many f***ing names. People die every day, sure, and thinking about it, it's all tragic. But the fact that this particular event occured, not just because it's America or whatever, but because citizens of the world suffered...Gah it just makes me pissed off to see so many dead, so many whose lives are ruined because of this. An entire generation with PTSD.
  22. Lawlz does Mars Volta count for using made up words, and rather than English, Spanglish? Technically it's a dialect spoken in border towns, and they're from El Paso.
