  2. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Apr 2 2012, 11:07 PM) QUOTE (trenken @ Apr 3 2012, 08:11 AM)I can't stand this guys polls. No poll should ever have more than 10 choices tops. 40 choices? No bothering with this crap. Yeah, me too. I refuse to vote in yet another one of treeduck's stupid ass polls. I'm sick of his crap! I wish he were more easy-going and full of rainbows like you trenken. Treeduck's polls are the reason why I joined this stupid Rush Limbaugh forum, who the hell is that guy anyway?

QUOTE (GeddPratLerxst @ Apr 3 2012, 08:48 PM) QUOTE (Good @ bad, andrush,Apr 3 2012, 08:29 PM) QUOTE (GeddPratLerxst @ Apr 3 2012, 08:16 PM) QUOTE (Good @ bad, andrush,Apr 3 2012, 08:08 PM) QUOTE (GeddPratLerxst @ Apr 3 2012, 07:55 PM) Just getting into these guys. Listened to In Absentia, Deadwing, and Fear of A Blank Planet on Spotify over the past few months. Decided I needed to step it up to vinyl (my preferred format). All their stuff is ridiculously expensive and hard to find but I decided to shell out the 40 bucks to get FoaBP off Ebay. GREAT decision. It kicks even more ass on vinyl! Amazing record. Thinking of going for In Absentia next... another pricey one but I feel like it will once again be worth it. Wish I could discover pt for the first time... It opened up my entire world. What would you suggest listening to other than the three records I mentioned up above? If you like their metal stuff then go with the latest album, The Incident. It's a surreal 55 minute song cycle and then another 4 songs that are pretty good. Also get the Nil Recurring EP, it's solid gold. If you like their softer segments, go with Stupid Dream, that is full of beautiful music. I you like their ambient moments, probably Signify or The Sky Moves Sideways. The Nil Recurring EP actually comes on the Fear of a Blank Planet 2LP. It is awesome. I really like their metal stuff so I'll try out The Incident. Then I'll check out the other records you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up! Maybe I am extremely crazy but to me PT, especially the Incident, sound like a modern Genesis, or what Genesis would be doing now. Both bands are wonderfully surreal. The metal parts in PT are not too far-fetched from SOME stuff Genesis set out to do, like in Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, or The Musical Box. Anesthetize, the part before the heavy part (after Alex's solo) sounds like something Genesis would do. The sometimes poppy PT stuff sounds like somewhat poppy or quirky Genesis stuff, and then there's that wonderful climax in The Start of Something Beautiful, just like there would be in One for the Vine of The Cinema Show.
  4. Anyone heard a big goodbye and their album Sounds and Silences? Interesting stuff, give it a shot. Solid 4 star effort that grows on you. A little PT, a little Opeth, a dash of DT, indie acoustic stuff, and influenced by Chicago and Toto as well as "contemporary classical" music.

  7. They sound a little like PT, a tiny bit, but have a unique sound of their own. The lead songwriter contacted me on Progarchives and asked if I'd review the album, and I was pleased to hear this surprise. I'm sorry I can't post samples up, but check out their single Solitude on YouTube if someone could do me the favor of posting the link, thanks
  8. Pretty crazy. Only heard Fish era and bits and pieces of H era.

  10. QUOTE (The Owl @ Apr 2 2012, 06:42 PM) Blackwater Park >10 years old... but still an amazing album. In that case probably Ghost Reveries

  15. I just heard it and it sounds like a weird cross between Baby by Justin Bieber, Xanadu (newton-John), and Mars Volta on crack.
  16. It's too hard to reproduce live, I hope, because that would mean it is prog up the butthole!
  17. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ Apr 1 2012, 07:42 PM) http://static.neatorama.com/images/2006-02/conan-finland-president.jpg http://chawedrosin.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/finland-afraid.jpg Finland is badass. I want to live there or in Sweden when I grow up. I loe Europe and Scandinavia is my favorite part, probably in the world but I won't ever be sure because I've only ever visited places here in the US and in Mexico. I quoted that post because wasn't there some Finnish sniper, the White Death or something, who killed over 400 people, despite freezing weather, lack of food, and a party of snipers looking for him? Supposedly he was even shot and shrugged it off like nothing.
  18. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ Apr 1 2012, 08:27 PM) I'm sorry, I didn't feel like reading every page to this game. ELO VS Ozzy Osbourne I think ELO because I've been enjoying them recently and I think they're a tad more consistent but the early Ozzy material totally beats ELO so... I don't know Ozzy vs Alice Cooper
  19. After listening to the majority of their discography, there is nothing as beautiful as Thin Air. One of the top 3 songs ever written.

  22. QUOTE (treeduck @ Apr 1 2012, 04:03 PM) You two are greedy for discs, you could brick yourself in until you never saw the light again with all the CDs and vinyl you have... I don't think I'd mind that, actually.
  23. QUOTE (Union 5-3992 @ Apr 1 2012, 04:34 PM) Jethro Tull VS Blackfield tough, but Tull at the moment Jethro Tull or Tangerine Dream
