  1. Saw Mahogany Rush way back in the day... sumthin' like '76 or '77. Had a couple of albums on vinyls and 8-track bnack then, too. Haven't listened to anything recently, though. *makes note to search YouTube*
  2. QUOTE (greg2112 @ Feb 18 2011, 09:41 AM) I'd go venue. Its always a cool experience to get the tourbook pre-show and leaf through it as the anticipation builds. This has been my process for the last 25+years of going to Rush shows!
  3. QUOTE (HuskyRunner @ Feb 18 2011, 09:39 AM) A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. 'Have you ever done anything of particular merit?' St. Peter asked. 'Well, I can think of one thing,' the cowboy offered. 'On a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, 'Now, back off or I'll kick the crap out of all of you!' St. Peter was impressed, 'When did this happen?' 'A couple of minutes ago.'
  4. A doctor made it his regular habit to stop off at a bar for a hazelnut daiquiri on his way home. The bartender knew of his habit, and would always have the drink waiting at precisely 5:03 p.m. One afternoon, as the end of the work day approached, the bartender was dismayed to find that he was out of hazelnut extract. Thinking quickly, he threw together a daiquiri made with hickory nuts and set it on the bar. The doctor came in at his regular time, took one sip of the drink and exclaimed, "This isn't a hazelnut daiquiri." "No, I'm sorry," replied the bartender, "it's a hickory daiquiri doc."

Even though not part of the original lineup, Eddie Murphy did join SNL when it was still a hot and controversial show on american tv. A memorable and one of my absolute fav Eddie Murphy SNL skits... James Brown and the Hot Tub ...

    Rush items

I just received the 'All The World's A Stage' on vinyl that I purchased on Amazon! I'm very excited and am looking at the cover and reading the liner notes as it spins on my turntable Just thought I'd post this here as evidence that folks do actively seek out RUSH items and get excited about such... I'd be interested to peruse a website that features memorabilia and RUSH-related items
  11. Ten Thousand years ago the first humans came to North America by crossing over from Russia to Alaska. They hadn't actually intended to do this. They got lost and couldn't get their Berings Strait.
  12. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Feb 16 2011, 04:39 PM)Leslie West has tone a mile wide. My friends had a band in the 70s that got to open for them one night. Would have gone, but I was a bout 2 or 3 at the time. Felix Pappalardi was no slouch himself! Personally, I think Pappalardi's bass gave a distinct standout sound to Mountain's early work as much as did West. I want to say Pappalardi played Gibson EB and those '60's EBs had such a deep fat resonating sound. Btw, I've got a '64 Gibson EB-0. The neck has a slight twist, unfortunately. But the bass is almost as old as me and I've a slight creak in my neck, too, so I love it, anyhow
  13. Is the film about 'noodling' where sportsmen catch catfish by sticking their bare hand under river ledges and other 'catfish holes' as bait? If so, then it's true...
  14. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Feb 16 2011, 10:51 AM) For me I would have to say the Beatles are the best followed by Rush! However the world might place them third behind The beatles and U2! I'm part of "the world" group
  15. QUOTE (bigmoney2112 @ Feb 16 2011, 02:01 PM) I only heard their first album "climbing". It had some good songs on it, but not anything great imo. 'Mississippi Queen' is a good song. Probably, Mountain's best known song.
  16. yes! Love Nantucket Sleighride. Once upon a time, I had the album on vinyl. The cover art of the album is pretty... http://www.amazon.com/Nantucket-Sleighride...n/dp/B00008QSA9
  17. QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Feb 16 2011, 01:33 PM) What did Cinderella say when she got to the ball? GGGLLLGGGCCJJGGG (gagging sound ) *pummels ILSnwdog with rotten fruit from audience* that's terrible!!
  18. There was once an island kingdom whose people were all fabulously wealthy. Even though they could have afforded to live anywhere they wanted, tradition dictated they stay on their tiny island home. Eventually, their king became frustrated and called a meeting of the tribe's elders. He said he wanted them to figure out a way he could enjoy his wealth, and stay within traditional guidelines. After much consideration, the elders suggested he build a magnificent throne. When he objected there was not enough room in his hut for a throne, the elders suggested he call in an engineer to solve the problem. Soon, the king's tiny hut was rigged with an elaborate system of ropes and pulleys. He could lower the huge throne for use during the day, and at night, he could haul the throne up, and lower his bed. This was truly the best of both worlds for the king. Unfortunately, after a few months of constant use the ropes frayed, and one night, the throne slipped and came crashing down on the king, killing him. The wise men of the island recognized a lesson in this experience and added to the lore of their people this statement: "People who live in grass houses should not stow thrones."
  19. QUOTE (HuskyRunner @ Feb 16 2011, 09:41 AM) An Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walk into a pub together. They each buy a pint of Guinness. Just as they are about to enjoy their creamy beverages, a fly lands in each of their pints and gets stuck in the frothy head. The Englishman pushes his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fishes the fly out and continues drinking as if nothing. The Irishman also picks the fly out of his drink, but then holds it out over the beer and yells, "Spit it out! Spit it out, you little bastard!".
  20. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Feb 15 2011, 08:30 PM) Used to play Stuck in the middle in an acoustic trio back in the 90s bravo. got any recordings you can post? would love to hear.
  21. QUOTE (realomind @ Feb 15 2011, 08:00 PM) Can't argue with your posts summer_sky, nice one. This was also a fav of mine, seemed all the more poignant after he passed. City to City Beautiful. That's the thing, Gerry was always speaking through his lyrics... even though we listened over the years, we only really hear what he was saying now that he is gone.
  22. Here's my introduction to Gerry Rafferty via Stealers Wheel when I was but a wee, young, teenage lass in 1972 listening to my transistor radio... Stuck In The Middle With You The song was meant as a parody as I learned many, many moons later... as I grew to know the work of Gerry Rafferty. At the time, it had a great hook and I sang along every time I would hear the song played on my portable transistor radio-primitive Walkman-soon-to-evolve-into-iPod device
  23. This is my favorite Gerry Rafferty song and I love the simple video because I think it showcases GR - the man and his music: *do not mean to highjack 'Stealers Wheel' discussion... just love this Rafferty song so much*
  24. I'm an admirer of Gerry Rafferty. Does this count? I think Rafferty was an under-appreciated/recognized song writer of great talent.
