deamhain
This is one of those "depends on my mood" things but.... numero uno: "Know that your place in life is where you want to be.." Ok, I know it's not a verse but it's a damn good philosophy. Whole verse would have to be: "Sunlight dances through the leaves...etc" Just another example of loving the pictures that lyrics can paint and feelings they can create. I love listening to Rivendell back to back with Floyd's Grantchester (sp?) Meadows but I'm a sad old fart! Cheers n beers
rebel runner
After reading Neil's book, it would have to be ghost rider. His words give me some eerie goose bumps, very deep and personal. The classic example of being surrounded by darkness, yet still searching for some light at the end of the tunnel. Forever focused on not giving up to the demons that can surround you. Alot of the lyrics on vapour trails are like that. For Neil to give that up, and share those feelings he had during that dark time in his life with the rest of the world, takes alot of balls. Carry all those phantoms Through bitter wind and stormy skies From the desert to the mountain From the lowest low to the highest high Like a ghost rider Shadows on the road behind Shadows on the road ahead Nothing can stop you now
hemispherical
Great question! I'm sitting here using the office laptop doing some work stuff and this is a great getaway. Thanks! One of the things I love about the movie High Fidelity is how John Cusack relates on film how the music in his collection corresponds with his life. Being an old-time Rush freak, this really applies! Am reading Traveling Music right now and thinking about all that, too. Thanks Neil! Right now it would probably be Farewell to Kings. After spending most of my life along the coast in Massachusetts, I find myself priced out of my home state and preparing for a move. I'm jaded by the yuppies and politics and this song really suits me right now: Cities full of hatred Fear and lies Withered hearts And cruel, tormented eyes Scheming demons Dressed in kingly guise Beating down the multitude And scoffing at the wise The hypocrites are slandering The sacred halls of Truth Ancient nobles showering Their bitterness on youth Can't we find The minds that made us strong Can't we learn To feel what's right and wrong Second Nature, too: A memo to a higher office Open letter to the powers-that-be To a God, a king, a head of state A captain of industry To the movers and the shakers- Can't everybody see? It ought to be second nature- I mean, the places where we live! Let's talk about this sensibly- We're not insensitive I know progress has no patience- But something's got to give I know you're different- You know I'm the same We're both too busy To be taking the blame I'd like some changes But you don't have the time We can't go on thinking It's a victimless crime No one is blameless But we're all without shame We fight the fire- While we're feeding the flames Folks have got to make choices- And choices got to have voices Folks are basically decent Conventional wisdom would say Well, we read about the exceptions In the papers every day Lastly, Hold Your Fire was just out when I started dating my ex. We always enjoyed this one, and now it means even more than 18 years ago!! "Summer's going fast, Nights growing colder Children growing up- Old friends growing older" Sorry for the long post! invisibleairwaves
Can't forget Subdivisions! "Growing up it all seems so one-sided Opinions all provided, A future predecided, To catch that song divided in the mass-production zone"
CooJoe
From Sub Divisions. Some will sell their dreams for small desires Or lose the race to rats Get caught in ticking traps And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...
