ES-335
I heard they are going to tour with a full orchestra and choir. But the orchestra and choir will just stand there and wink and clap with thier thumbs.
Slim
I hope not. I think the party's been over for quite a while, now. The time to let it go and bow out with a bit of dignity has passed, quite honestly. They are over 20 years past their best, now.

Slim
QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Dec 17 2004, 08:55 PM) Well, if that's the way you feel, the best thing to do is stay away and let someone who wants to see them have the seat. Well - that assumes that they'll tour the UK again in my case, and I doubt they will personally. But I think that there would be enough seats to go round if they did tour here next year. If I'm honest, I probably would go; I enjoyed a lot of the R30 gig I attended, at Manchester, and since I've been to all the UK Rush tours since the first in 1977, I'd feel obliged to go in a sense, to keep my collection complete. At the same time though, the longer they tour in support of inferior material - and I do feel that their recent records have been mostly rather weak - the more they become a nostalgia act, and I find that a little sad. I fail to see how ANYONE could consider Counterpart, T4E, and most of all VAPOR TRAILS weak. VT blew me away... Lest I be considered a groupie who thinks Neil burping into a microphone would be music...I'm sure there are valid criticisms one could make of the albums...but weakness just doesn't fly, IMO. As far as Rush being a "nostalgia act" - if that means that hearing them play songs like "Between the Wheels," "Subdivisions," and "Force Ten" (to name a few) that are still as relevant and meaningful today as when they were written, I'll take it as long as they'll deliver it. Thank you and have a pleasant day. http://www.therushforum.net/html/emoticons/smile.gif

VT blew me away... We'll have to disagree on that, I'm afraid. I don't like Counterparts at all; I can find nothing of worth in any of its songs. I find VT to be mostly dire; although I do like a few of its songs (Vapor Trail, Peacable Kingdom, Ghost Rider, Earthshine), I find most of the rest very poor indeed, embarrassing even. I do like T4E mostly; I think it's the one decent album overall that they've recorded since Presto. But even T4E can't be compared, to my mind, to the great Rush albums of years gone by; it's not in the same class at all. QUOTE Thank you and have a pleasant day. http://www.therushforum.net/html/emoticons/smile.gif You too! Slim
QUOTE Ok I agree T4E was not the best but Counterparts was great as was Vapor TrailsI'm afraid I just don't agree with you at all. QUOTE You sound all the other's who wrote them off after Presto only to look foolish when Roll the bones went to #2 in America a year or so later. http://www.therushforum.net/html/emoticons/doh.gif Well - all kinds of music which I don't consider to have a great deal of merit does well commercially in America, including RTB apparently - and anyway - even I bought a copy of RTB, although I've never liked it at all. Do you really reassess your musical appreciation based on the charts? Do you honestly feel foolish if an artist you don't like sells boatloads of CDs? I certainly don't. QUOTE Never write this band off they have been here for 30 years for a reason. I've followed them for 28 of those years myself. Like many Rush fans, I consider that they've been in a creative decline for at least 15 years. Granted, many disagree and that's their prerogative, but I do feel entirely justified in writing them off as a creative force personally. It's a long enough time. And by the way, I DO like Rush, a great deal - just not recent Rush, particularly.

Anyway, welcome to the board. http://www.therushforum.net/html/emoticons/smile.gif What's your favorite Rush song/album? Thanks! Rush has been an important part of my life since I was 16; I've somehow reached the age of 44 now. The older, important material is more interesting for its merits, but the newer material is often interesting as a discussion point for its abject lack of merit - from my perspective. All of the Rush material is interesting as a discussion point, then, and that's why I contribute to fora such as this. My absolute favourite Rush album is Hemispheres; my absolute favourite Rush track is Free Will, though La Villa Strangiato comes close.
