GeddyRulz
I hate live albums. By any band, even Rush. I think the "best of" compilation CD is the better way to go for me. (So far, I really only know stuff from Jailbreak.)

GeddyRulz
Why do I hate live albums? Three reasons: 1. Crowd noise. 2. Poorer audio quality than on a studio album. And mostly... 3. Different arrangements (almost always worse) on the live songs than on the studio versions. Just when you've learned a song (from the studio version), along comes another live version which is sung differently. One sounds like an idiot when trying to sing along to a live song using the studio version as a model; the lyrics are all out-of-whack, with syllables falling in different places. If I want to hear any Rush song, I'll stick with the version I know best - the original studio recording.
Natural Rush
dont mean to be rude but sometimes a live album with various tracks are much better than the studio album Thin lizzy is one of those bands where you can feel the power of every track in the live version also the crowd help make the album sometimes , depends how its mixed take AC/DC they are far better live than a studio album because " you can hear them play hard " Take AC/DC Riff Raff live compared to the studio version ... the live version kicks the crap out of it lol Pink Floyd are great in the studio and amazing live UFO were the same !!! But at the end of the day its your ears not mine !! he he

madra sneachta
Always good to hear from a fellow Lizzy fan. I have to agree 1000% with Natural Rush - The live tracks on L&D kick seven shades of how's your father out of the studio versions (our ears obviously behold in a similar fashion). To be honest, I rarely if ever listen to Jailbreak, Fighting or Johnny The Fox. Arguably, L&D encapsulates a band better than any other live album available (right down to the bit towards the end of Emerald where Phil's bass goes slightly out of sequence for a bit). I was lucky enough to be at both their farewell Irish gigs in Dublin (highlights of the last one are now released on DVD as 'Thunder and Lightening' by RTE over here. Also, Hot Press magazine in Dublin has just released a freebie with five hitherto unreleased tracks from the vaults, three of them are demos, two of which have never been heard before. QUOTE Recorded at Trend Studios in Dublin, by John Dardis, these five exceptional recordings have, until now, remained hidden in the vaults. Two of the songs are effectively "new": they were never otherwise recorded, so that even the most ardent of Thin Lizzy fans will not have heard them before. The Lost Recordings Track Listing: 1. Mama and Papa 2. Saga Of The Ageing Orphan 3. It's Really Worthwhile 4. Dublin 5. The Friendly Ranger At Clontarf Castle GeddyRulz, there are plenty of compilations out there. Try one of them out and then give L&D a listen.
GeddyRulz
QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Aug 25 2006, 07:50 PM) GeddyRulz, there are plenty of compilations out there. Try one of them out and then give L&D a listen. Last night, Natural Rush sent me a copy of the double-CD Greatest Hits album... with 36 tracks on it! So now I own some Thin Lizzy on CD. (Thanks again, NR.) Previously, I'd only owned a vinyl copy of Jailbreak. As I was telling NR, in America the only TL that gets played on radio is "Boys Are Back in Town" and sometimes "Jailbreak."
