Interesting Mixing "Technique"

This has always stood out to me. The guitar solo in this song (starting at 2:27) is lower in the mix than the rest of the instruments - bass, rhythm guitar, drums.. And it's a great solo, and for some reason having it so low in the mix works in its favor for some reason. It's always stood out to me and I'm still not sure whether it was intentional or not, but for some strange reason it's really cool. Maybe it's simply because this is something which never happens outside of demos.
