KISS the 1980's albums, which is it?????????????? I've left out Revenge because A it's from the 90's and B it's probably going to win so it's like guitarists who won a Guitar Player category 5 years in a row, exempt from voting.

His solo album would probably be the obvious choice here but that's not with KISS that's with other musicians, although I do think of it as a KISS album. Anyway we know that one would win so I've not included it in the poll. So which is it?

Two totally different bands from almost the same era in two rather different branches of what is now grouped together as "classic rock." In the early 80s, both bands had the same, rather controversial, idea: "let's do an epic concept album with a story and everything!" So they did, without all the band members being on board in either camp, and the results were widely panned by fans and critics in both cases. But, Kilroy spawned some mega hit singles and was no chart dud. And The Elder gained a cult following after its initial commercial and critical failure. The question remains, which band did it better, or worse, or whatever, in your opinion? I love Styx, but a lot of Kilroy is pretty cringey, and not in a good way. Some great singles don't quite save the deep cuts. The Elder is corny as heck and doesn't sound like KISS most of the time, and the concept is really too vague to take off... but it doesn't really weigh the record down either in my opinion, and none of the songs really turn me off. If I pretend it isn't KISS, I wonder why it isn't talked about more often. Sounds to me like the 80s prog-tinged metal bands were still taking notes on this record. My vote's for The Elder, though it definitely bombed harder. Both are probably underrated though. Kilroy does have a couple killer singles going for it.

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z33/bfwgjma/Bucky%20Bikes%20the%20Bay%20Sept%2019%202009/me%20and%20Alice%20C._zpsibp0wbdq.jpg I regret never knowing Mr. Wagner while he was alive but I've come to know his work and to realize that the "The Maestro of Rock" is one we ALL know....even if we don't know that we know his work. Dick started with The Frost in the late '60s (a Grande Ballroom "house" performer). He composed and played with Alice Cooper, was a credited player with Lou Reed (that amazing intro and lead on Sweet Jane on the live "Rock n Roll Animal) and a session lead who sat in on recordings for at least KISS and Aerosmith while their band-member leads were too zonked out to make it to the studio (Get Your Wings and DESTROYER!)...probably others. If you are a fan of classic rock, you HAVE heard him play and/or heard his compositions performed by big-name artists. I met the wife of the modern-day Dick Wagner Band's guitar player and have since gotten to know Ray. I am sure that I never would have gotten to know and love Dick Wagner the guitar player and composer if I hadn't met Sue but I'm sure glad that I did. If I hadn't met her, I'd never have become a fan of this great musician and all of his spectacular work... So, now you know... Rock ON!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQxTIre9354

Many great live albums have been released over the decades, and many of them can be grouped together by style, length, time period, relative effect on the popularity of their respective artists (like this one), and otherwise. I'm not limiting the making of such threads to myself by making this first one, but I thought it would be a fun exercise to group and rate some live classics, so I have. Which of these career saving releases do you prefer? Peter Frampton's definitive Frampton Comes Alive, Kiss' timeless Alive!, or Cheap Trick's short and sweet At Budokan? Have fun! :)
