  1. QUOTE (Rush-O-Matic @ Jun 4 2012, 10:14 AM) Other than the new intro for BU2B, what differences are you all noticing between the original single release mixes and the album mix for Caravan & BU2B? For Caravan, the bass in the jam section has been run through some sort of phaser. Sounds badass! Also during the choruses the background synths seem my ear to have been raised up in the mix and it's GLORIOUS. A beautiful thing to hear. Also right before the end they repeated Geddy singing "In a world where I feel so small, I can't stop thinking biiiig" one more time through some sort of megaphone filter. LOVING the new mix. The new intro for BU2B reminds me of Led Zeppelin's "Bring it on Home" (My favorite Led Zep tune). Slow bluesy intro then BAM
  2. QUOTE (Unobtrusive Companion @ Jun 4 2012, 09:49 AM) First listen completed. The Wreckers stands out, along with Carnies, and The Garden is a beautiful way to end the album. I quite liked BU2B2, as pointless as it is. First listen was through headphones, now time to play it again, this time through my sound system I started on headphones and halfway through the right side died! Oy! Fortunately I was able to half listen in my car on the way to class. I'll finish on the way to work after this!
  3. Loving the changes on Caravan. Awesome phaser effect on the bass during the jam section and later on. LOVE that they bumped the synths up in the mix during the chorus. Absolutely stunning.
  4. I saw my first show with my dad when I was 14 and I knew next to nothing about Rush, but that night I got home and put on every album I could. I couldn't get enough. When I was there, there was a guy with his son in front of me.. kid couldn't have been any older than 8, and he kept asking his dad when Far Cry was going to be played, haha. Any age is good for a Rush show!

Clockwork Angels sounds like the 90's work (including RtB and T4E) modernized and PERFECTED! Beautiful!!

It's amazing! I'm sharing that grin right now! Can NOT wait to hear this live!!
  7. I voted for Headlong Flight just because I really want to see how Geddy manages to play that monster bass line and sing at the same time
  8. QUOTE (Xanaseb @ Jun 3 2012, 07:48 PM) QUOTE (Gilbertk @ Jun 3 2012, 06:37 PM)Tom Sawyer except for the bass solo. That was the first Rush song I learned and this was way before I could play even something like Limelight. I could even play through the solo without the flairs. Just play it slowly and speed up until you can play it full speed. The BEST advice I've ever heard for bass playing is that if you want to play a song, play it. You may not be able to play YYZ right now, but just start learning it, however slow, however little each day, just learn it. Challenge yourself to see how much of it you can play with the song, even if it's just a few measures or notes, push yourself to do better each time. Listen to the song while you're driving or just relaxing and visualize yourself playing it (with any song this is actually a great way to build the mental end of things.) Sing the bass line along with the song and that will help with memorization. Learn a little more everyday and slowly, bit by bit you'll improve not only your ability to play that song, but all your other skills as well. Be patient and go for the song you want to play! Happy bassing! That's precisely what I've been doing thanks!! I was unsure as to I was approaching it the right way hehe... self-teaching is awesome, but it doesn't teach you the basis for bass-work hehe. Geddy Lee is the reason I picked up a bass almost 6 years ago and he's still my main influence! One of the things to do is just sit on youtube and watch the players you like play. Their techniques and styles will naturally work into your hands as you play the songs. I taught myself Geddy's flamenco/flick technique and it was rough, but the more I watched, the more I picked up on how it's done. I didn't over-examine, just watched, and the more I played, the more his style worked into my hands. Bottom line, just go for it! It may take awhile to master the songs and techniques but keep at it and you'll get there!
  9. Just so it's clear I am EXTREMELY excited about the album and cannot wait for the 12th, but some of the reactions around here.. GEEZ! This was also just a retort to the "Why it's so important to me" thread.. just meant to be humorous, if just to myself.
  10. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jun 3 2012, 08:49 PM) QUOTE (Gilbertk @ Jun 3 2012, 07:29 PM) Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to this album, but in the long run.. 1) This album will not have any effect on my career. 2) This album will not assist me in graduating college (unless I can shoehorn some formula or historical fact into the tune of one of the songs) 3) When I marry the love of my life, this album will not have played any part in our coming together or deciding to marry each other. 4) If or hopefully when we have our children, this album will have no bearing on that process ("from the point of conception' onwards) 5) I am a born-again Christian, so this album certainly won't have any effect on eternity for me.. Some people are taking this way to seriously. At the end of the day, it's just an album. It's fun to listen to and critique.. but some of the talk here is getting out of hand. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Enjoy it? Awesome! But it's borderline sad how much people are overreacting. Well, for me.... 1) If this album is not good, I will be so distraught that I will likely shut down my business, go bankrupt, lose my home, and end up on the street 2) If this album is good, I will likely be inspired to go to graduate school and get my Master's Degee in Musical Theory. If the album sucks, I will burn my degree because life will be pointless 3) My marriage is totally dependent upon this album. I have told my wife we will renew our vows if I like it, and if not, I will serve her divorce papers 4) We will likely not have anymore children if I do not like the album because I will be so depressed and distraught that sex just wouldn't interest me 5) I will be forced to question my faith, because, really, would God allow Rush to put out a bad album? So as you can see we have somewhat different expectations for Clockwork Angels Touche.

Just thought I'd say.. some people are getting way too angry about this album. I get that it's a album but.. wow This degree of intensity amongst fans MIGHT be justified if Keith Moon and John Entwistle rose from the dead and recorded a sequel to Tommy with The Who.

  13. Wow.. this album needs to come out so people can stop all the whining and start... whining? Oy..

  15. QUOTE (Weatherman2112 @ Jun 3 2012, 04:09 PM) Instrumental? If you're talking about what I think you are.. they were just referencing the musical aspect of each piece, lyrics and vocals aside.
  16. They are all annoying you so you made a new one? Cool story.
  17. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Jun 2 2012, 10:01 PM) QUOTE (Mr. Henry Gale @ Jun 2 2012, 09:55 PM) QUOTE (Snow-Dog2112 @ Jun 2 2012, 06:25 PM) Why is everyone so pumped about leaks? It spoils the album and ruins the anticipation of listening to the whole thing, this is why I haven't even listened to the thirdy second clips. Calm down, boys and girls. Just wait for the album to come out. Okay, please tell me how it "spoils the album". Most people listen to music digitally now a days. So whether they get it now, or wait 10 days makes no difference what so ever. If Rush themselves decided to sell it digitally on their site tonight, how would that be any different than getting it on iTunes on the 12th? For those that really like to have the packaging (I happen to be one of those people) - it still doesn't enhance my experience when actually listening. It's just something cool to have and look over. But even when I buy physically, it doesn't change the fact that I end up listening to the digital version for 90% of the year. I stopped caring about release dates when I started working in the industry, and realized that the majority of the time spent waiting for a release is all for marketing/pr and label scheduling. It has nothing to do with the band picking a specific date, or the experience being any different waiting for that specific date. Nothing changes. You (the music listener) only have to wait, because of the business aspect of the industry. The only time I would agree with you, is if the leak was really poor quality. But most leaks today are more than fine (and will be the same quality you were going to listen to anyway via MP3. Unless you only listen to LOSSLESS or directly from the CD itself). But let's face it, the majority of people that listen to music are not audiophiles. On some level, I can understand how for some personally, it's rewarding to wait for the release date. Patience, and getting something on a set date etc. But that's just a personal thing. Not everyone feels the same way, or gets the same kind of enjoyment adhering to a made up release date. And I certainly don't see how you can claim it spoils the music, or changes the way one enjoys it. EDIT: Maybe you are talking about song by song leaks? In that case, I would agree. Listening to an album broken up with half leaks is pretty awful. But no one said Clockwork Angels wasn't going to leak that way. If anything, it will be a full rip in 320. Most people can do that with basic settings in iTunes. Agree Double agree!

    LEAK

QUOTE (CruisingInPrimetime @ Jun 2 2012, 07:59 PM) It just finished downloading and it says password encrypted when I click on the songs. I should have listened to it before posting. Sorry, everyone, for the false alarm.
  19. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jun 2 2012, 07:00 PM) QUOTE (Ron2112 @ Jun 3 2012, 12:58 AM) QUOTE (Shredder2 @ Jun 2 2012, 06:42 PM) Guys, let's face it. Whoever has a copy of CA is too greedy and won't share/upload it. Looks like we'll have to wait to open a fresh, physical copy. Greedy? Wow. Are you really pissed that someone who at this point is one of the very few with a copy of the CD -- and therefore easy to trace via posts on a messageboard -- doesn't want to risk stiff fines and possible jail time to violate international copyright, just so that you can have a copy of a CD a few days early? Get a grip. Oh look, it's The Grinch! I agree with Ron. No matter how many people want this album early.. whoever gets it early would be smart not to poke Roadrunner and leak it. With the lengths RR has gone to to keep this from leaking I'm pretty sure they would track the source and press every charge imaginable on the poor sucker.

The guitar in Halo Effect sounds like the chorus in "The Way the Wind Blows" and a little of "Everyday GLory"

  22. QUOTE (Khan @ Jun 1 2012, 02:40 PM) Like seeing another new thread in the CA forum.... Ok, I guess new threads should just be banned on a public internet forum.
  23. Close call between Seven Cities and Carnies, but I went with drums and bass over guitar.
