    9:11/21:12

    What's this 9:11 stuff?
  2. Sections 1-3 are temporary seating. They are used as GA standing for some acts. The gap between the first row and the stage is normal. I've sat in section 2 & 5 for Rush before, always a great crowd. In section 4 you may be at a very far right angle depending where your seats are but you'll be closer than me, I'm in section 9 this time.
  3. I had the same issue. It didn't rip automatically, had to do it manually. Looks like it's a coding issue with start and stop times overlapping with Caravan.
  4. QUOTE (EveryNerveAware @ Sep 9 2010, 07:32 AM) There are a lot of fun things to do in Tampa during your visit. Busch Gardens amusement park Adventure Island waterpark Y'bor City historic district Channelside shops and restaurants Hard Rock Seminole casino and hotel (right next to the venue and where we're staying the night of the show) A good source for Tampa Bay info is: http://www.tbo.com Hope this helps This is actually a list of where not to go with the possible exception of Y'bor. I kid - kind of. As far as restaurants go I would suggest the following, all of which are within ten minutes of downtown. Upscale Gourmet: The Columbia. 2117 East 7th Avenue. Good Cuban food, multiple rooms, dance show is worth seeing. Casual Gourmet: Pene Rustica. 3225 South MacDill Ave. Food is always outstanding. Daily lunch and dinner menus. Kick ass bakery and also just expanded to add a bar. We eat there at least once a week. Have never been disappointed. Casual almost gourmet: Mad Dogs & Englishmen. 4115 South MacDill Ave. Small bar and restaurant. Great atmosphere. Always great food. Pizza: Cappys. 3200 West Bay to Bay Blvd. Amazing pizza. They also run Pinky's across the street which does breakfast and lunch. My wife loves their breakfast, It's not my favorite but it's always good. Breakfast: First Watch. 520 North Tampa Street. Yeah, it's a chain but it's always good. Simple breakfast and lunch. The kitchen is open onto the restaurant so you can see how clean (spotless actually) it is and see the ingredients they use. Bar: Four Green Fields. 205 West Platt Street. Unique Irish Pub. Actually has a thatch roof. Cheap Booze: Total Wine. 1720 North Dale Mabry. Just in case. There are tons of bars, clubs, strip clubs to choose from. It shouldn't be hard to find what you want with a little research. Staying in Ybor is a safe bet for the most part. You can catch a lot of strippers (or ladys of the pole, if you prefer) around 4-5 a.m. at Village Inn. 215 North Dale Mabry. The food is better than you would think. (Don't ask why I know that's where the girls go after work.) For family type outings there's the Aquarium (located in Channelside), the new Tampa Museum of Art (downtown) Lowry Park Zoo (275 N & Sligh Ave) and the aforementioned amusement parks. If your a Yankee fan you can drive by the monolithic, absurdly proportioned house Derek Jeter is building on Davis Island. It's the one that looks like a mall stuck between two (big) houses. Enjoy the heat & humidity. See you at the show. The Ford (I refuse to call it by it's new name) is a good venue. The sound is usually outstanding.
  5. Thanks for the replies. Glad to know there are some other fans of both out there.
  6. QUOTE (vital signz @ Jul 7 2010, 08:37 PM) I am a big fan of Bruce. I am in the top 0.0000000001% of Rush fans.

  8. QUOTE (longhorn90 @ Jul 2 2010, 11:19 PM) Not sure if this thread title is appropriate as most comments have been around which bands play a diversified setlist. The way I personally interpret the thread to mean is which bands deliver a consistent and impressive concert. My votes would go for KISS, Rush, Aerosmith, Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Heaven and Hell and Tool. I've seen hundreds of shows and these bands tend to bring it everytime. Aerosmith, really? I've seen them 5 times and have yet to hear a song played the same twice. And that's not a compliment in any way. The setlists were basically the same just in different order. And the shows were short, 2 hrs. max, maybe 15-16 songs.
  9. Typically when I meet a fellow Rush fan inevitably I discover we have at least a few if not several other favorite artists in common. The exception, almost always, is Bruce Springsteen. When I mention that the Boss is one of my most admired and respected musical heroes I am usually met with a reaction that ranges from passive incongruity to blatant disgust as if it is not possible to appreciate both. I'll be the first to acknowledge the wide gulf between the boys and the Boss, style, mood, ambition, etc... But the contradiction doesn't bother me. I won't go into all the reasons why I love Rush given present company, we all know why we're here, but my fondness for Springsteen is rooted in his live performances, his desire to champion the everyday existence of people, his political tendencies and most of all his songwriting ability which is second to none. It seems to me they have more in common than not. Has anyone else noticed this? Is anyone else a fan of both? If you share a negative view of Springsteen how does it relate to your positive feelings for Rush?
  10. QUOTE (kooma @ Jul 2 2010, 03:49 AM) QUOTE (Faithless Mover @ Jul 2 2010, 02:42 AM) Chicken What do you mean, chicken Sorry. I was being a smart ass. A question for the ages. Chicken or the egg? I thought the whole "Pert" or "Peert" thing was sufficiently explained. I'll refrain from obtuseness in future postings.
  11. The Ten Commandments. Cecil B. Demille. Chuck Heston. Fake beards. Book is crap though.
  12. QUOTE (hrmavica @ Jul 2 2010, 08:13 AM) Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam! These guys play a different set each night and and AND they actually consider the last setlist played at each location when determining which songs to play for the next one. This past October they played 4 shows in Philly (over 5 days) and just about played every single tune they have ever recorded (and some they haven't recorded) over the course of the 4 shows. Also, at the show I saw in Toronto last year, the opening band was missing their lead singer and couldn't play, so members of Pearl Jam came out (solo) and played a mini set before the actual show! Finally, they routinely break curfew to fit songs in. Nobody treats their fans better than PJ. I've tried t get into Pearl Jam. Really tried. Worked hard at it. But just can't. I'm always tempted to go. Would I enjoy a show anyway? I just realized I'm a hypocrite. I'm always telling non Rush and Springsteen fans, you just gotta go to a show. You can't not like it.
  13. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ Jul 2 2010, 08:27 AM) QUOTE (Faithless Mover @ Jul 2 2010, 02:05 AM)IMO the only active acts that measure up to the greats (Rush, Pink Floyd, The Who, Queen) are Springsteen, Tool, Peter Gabriel & Fleetwood Mac. They consistently bring it live. Kings of Leon and Muse are getting better and better but don't have the catalog just yet, but it won't be long. Gary Moore, U2, Metallica, Queensryche, Van Halen, Prince, Bob Dylan & Iron Maiden are capable of amazing shows but are too inconsistent in my experience. Leonard Cohen was amazing last year. Never got to see Zeppelin, The Doors, The Clash, The Band or classic Yes. Born too late. If only I had a real time machine. Some people would change history. I would go to concerts. have you ever seen maiden or especially metallica live??? inconsistent? I've seen Metallica 10 times and Maiden 7 times. I love them dearly but they have issues that keep them from that top tier of live acts. Kirk and Cliff Burton are the only truly great musicians in Metallica. They've never been as transcendent in concert since Burton died. Maiden was never that tight to begin with and take too many songs "off". It's really not criticism, just observation/opinion. However, I won't disrespect Rush, Floyd, etc... by trying to claiming Maiden, Metallica, etc... belong in that club, no matter how much I love them. Who they are is what makes them great and great live acts, but not equal with the truly greats ultimately. Of course it's a credit to any band if they have a large enough body of work for people to criticize that they don't mine their catalog enough.
  14. QUOTE (Checkster2112 @ Jun 28 2010, 05:50 PM) The Godfather. Don't flame me. Its true. Yep.
  15. There's no law dictating how long a show can be. It doesn't start until they hit the stage. The fact that they spend the time and money on these videos to help set the mood for the show is pretty fan friendly I think. U2 spent $100 million on the 360 stage setup and opened the shows by playing Space Oddity over the p.a. House music or a cool video featuring the band? I'll take the video please.
  16. Was hoping for it but not as disappointing to me as no Jacobs Ladder.

  18. The band will play what they want to play. We will like it. We will stand for the entire show. We will clap and cheer. We will be sad when the show is over. We will buy the DVD. We will look forward to the next tour. We will hope we live long enough, and the boys tour long enough, so that we may each hear and see our "grail" songs performed.
