i don't think rush has a riff with more simple, raw heaviness than the beginning of BU2B. It reminds me a bit of Black Sabbath... I think it's a very well written and very well played song, both live and studio.

QUOTE (Todem @ Jul 19 2010, 02:53 PM)No doubt they are better live now than in the 80's. Although I have some great boots from the Waves tour and MP tour and what I would give to have seen them then. There was something so very special about those 2 tours. They were truly in their prime right there. Kinda like where Porcupine tree is right now. are you compaing rush to porcupine tree??

QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Jul 19 2010, 09:30 AM)Having seen it live, the reality is that Faithless absolutely drags down the set, interrupts the flow and causes people to flee to the merch and beer stands in droves. I call that an objective observation. Others call it whining. So it goes. "reality" WHAT KNOW YOU OF REALITY??????? yeah, aboot 100 out of 20,000 people went for a beer during that song. great, great, great way to justify your point. dumbass. maybe your meds wore off at that point in the show.

QUOTE (nobodys hero @ Jul 19 2010, 06:31 AM) Faithless is my favorite song from S&A. I'm glad they put it in the setlist.

QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Jul 18 2010, 10:49 PM) QUOTE (Hemispheres89 @ Jul 18 2010, 10:39 PM) I'm not necessarily extremely skilled or proficient on guitar by any stretch of the imagination, but to say Kirk Hammet sucks is surely baffling. I'm not either -- not by a damned sight -- which is why I deleted the message. I sounded like a pretentious wanker and the fact is that Kirk would mop the floor with me eleventy billion times out of eleventy billion times. kirk is not the only one...this 4 year old i heard playing at guitar center last month- he'd do the same to you.

QUOTE (ProfGumby @ Jul 19 2010, 08:33 AM) stand back, its a big one..... *RANT MODE ON!* It is a live show! Live! No studio, no editing, no re dub and no do over! That's it! You get what you get, and it was never meant to be CD perfect!!! THERE WILL BE GLITCHES THERE WILL BE EQUIPMENT SNAFU'S ALEX WILL STRAY FROM THE SOLO HE PLAYED LAST TIME THE BAND DIDN'T ASK YOU WHAT TO PLAY THIS BAND HAS ONE OF THE MOST TECHNICALLY COMPLEX SHOWS I HAVE EVER HEARD OF, YET IT STILL WORKS NEARLY FLAWLESSLY EVERY SHOW DUH! GEDDY'S VOICE CANNOT DO WHAT IT DID 35 FREAKIN YEARS AGO SO WHAT IF THE BAND WANDERS INTO NEW GROUND WITH A SONG? IT IS A LIVE SHOW MAN UP, TURN YOUR PANTS AROUND AND PUT THE ZIPPER IN FRONT WHERE IT BELONGS (men only, obviously) *RANT MODE OFF!* lots of whiners around here aren't gonna like this thread!

You dont have anything to compare it to, and never got to see rush at the prime in the 80s. . passed their prime? have you heard them play lately? are you deaf? do you use a lot of hard drugs? it never ceases to amaze me how incredibly moronic some people's comments on this forum are. say what you want about setlists, and whine about the drum solo...but to say that they are past their prime is beyond absurd. seriously: that is the stupidest comment i have ever read on this forum. The guys in Rush are in their late '50s, and they haven't released a gold record in 14 years. Get as bent as you like, but it's not a stupid comment -- it's an honest and accurate one. Rush is past their prime. I still love them and I'm glad they are still touring, but there's nothing wrong with noting that they are no longer pups and no longer sell records by the truck full -- like they did in their PRIME. +1 oohhh! we get to hear from the drum expert!! he who knows more than the professor and his tech!

QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jul 18 2010, 12:06 PM) I think it's pretty safe to say, they are well past their prime.......even though they are still amazing live, their performances aren't as exciting as they were 20 odd years ago IMO...... can you give any specific instances? not sure why you are thinking that...

QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Jul 18 2010, 11:58 AM) Anyone who has seen Jimmy Page play over the past 30 years will tell you he's a shell of himself. And I play guitar, pumpkin, and I know enough about music to know you're an hysterical fanboy deep in denial about your favorite band. Only deep in the fever swamps does honesty equal negativity. I would engage you further, but it looks like you're having trouble forming a coherent thought through the spittle you're flecking on your keyboard. "pederass" huh? That's some funny shit right there. Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and remove all doubt. rather be "deep in denial" about rush, than in denial about not being a moron, such as your self. so you've seen page a lot in the last 30 years? you seem to be a fanboy of your self...and that sounds pretty sad, pumpkin. now go practice so you have a chance at not sucking so bad. if you have such a poor opinion of rush why in god's green earth are you here, d-bag?

Rush is past their prime. I still love them and I'm glad they are still touring, but there's nothing wrong with noting that they are no longer pups and no longer sell records by the truck full -- like they did in their PRIME. If you equate an artist's prime by the amount of records and concert tickets sold you have a point. I believe hughes&kettner is talking about their musical chops, so to speak. I've seen Rush in concert 1981 through 1985, they kicked ass. I've seen Rush from 2004 through 2009. They kicked ass. I'm going to see them later this summer. I'm sure they will kick ass. Oh wait, they don't sell out every venue and don't sell millions of CDs. I guess they're passed their prime as musicians... Of course they are still great PLAYERS. I've seen them since 1984 and they always put on a great show. Lots of guys like Jimmy Page have lost their chops, while guys like Lifeson and Iommi have stayed in form. As relevant artist, yes, they are past their prime. They've only put out three studio albums in 15 years. But this is a semantic argument you're making. No one considers any band that came of age in the 70s in their prime. Well, except for fanboys. well, i'm counting anyone out of a discussion who thinks that jimmy page has lost his chops. yet another moronic post. you think if you went to page's house, sat down and listened to him play, that you'd be anything less than blown away, you : A. know nothing about guitar playing and B. know even less about music. rush was never "relevant"... in the music business sense. moving pictures still sells 15,000 copies a week. i also woner aloud, why so many people are on this forum when they have such negative things to say about rush. and rush's album output was slowed a bit by deaths in the family- remember that fair-weather fan?? took a little time off to stay alive. thriller is one of the best selling albums ever- but MJ was still a pederass and a freak. so i'm not sure why people give a shit about how many albums someone sells. if you don't like their albums, and don't like their sets and think they are old THEN DON'T LISTEN TO THEM AND DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM ON A FREAKING FORUM...

QUOTE (Mr. Krinkle @ Jul 14 2010, 09:05 AM)QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 14 2010, 08:59 AM) QUOTE (Zanadoo @ Jul 13 2010, 08:48 PM) A lot of people really rip on the Wals. I liked them a lot, and the Steins. Really recognizable sound to them. Not much of any grit either; a really good clean sound. Very twangy sound. It remember seeing the HYF tour and it just didnt have a lot of that deep punch to it that you get with a rick or a fender. Not a great rock bass in my opinion. Definitely much more of a jazzy sound to it, which was his playing/writing style at the time, his bass lines had a lot of jazz influence in them, so that bass fit, but that bass on any of their older heavier songs just did not work for me at all. It somehow sucked the life out of those old songs, made them sound much weaker. Go listen to "Suck My Kiss" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers BSSM album and tell me that Wal that Flea used for that song dosen't have balls. you can't compare the sound of a bass in flea's vs geddy's hands. they produce such a distinctly different tone as individuals (as everyone does really- who is any good anyways)... i love ged's tone live and recorded these days. tons of balls and a great "punch in the face" with high and mid tones. plus, he's pretty good

QUOTE (farcryoverspilledmilk @ Jul 15 2010, 11:32 AM) I work in the industry so I get some info here and there in advance that pertains to Rush and the word is tonight's show on the Plains of Abraham will outdraw Ottawa and Sarnia by a comfortable margin. Is it possible we will see Rush playing to 40? 50? 60,000 people tonight in their home country? The quote I got to that question was "Very possible". If that turns out to be true, then Rush will have played to more people in Canada over the last 3 shows (4 including tonight) than they did in football stadiums in Brazil in 2002 and they still have Air Canada to play on Saturday night. Sarnia - 22,000 Ottawa - 32,200 Toronto - 16,500 Quebec - ? Toronto - ? Very solid numbers. Add in the South America numbers in October and this should be Rush's biggest attended concert tour in 25 years or more given the amount of dates this tour is. thanks for sharing the info!! nice to see all the peeps coming out to see the boys perform. the time machine tour is one HELLUVA show. Sarnia was amazing- they sounded like a well-oiled machine (with heart, soul and emotion obviously ) they were so good, i decided to go to pitts also. i could not wait to hear them until clockwork comes out next year.

dude- just wait until the event is rescheduled; RUSH WILL do that...then sell you tix on ebay. even if you get $300-350 for them, it's better than what you will have to pay in legal fees. even if you win, you're still going to be losing $$. and seeing as how big corp's have good lawyers, the probability that you will win the case is not so good...

you can feel safe sending them to me. i have a great interest in seeing rush in toronto. i've seen them in many other places in north america, since the early 80's when i was just a wee lad. i would represent you and your family very well. i will be a kind and helpful audience member. plus, i'll get backstage and get autographs for you. i may also ask them to send their jet to you in the UK. you can fly back to north america with geddy and alex, sound ok?
