  1. OK, the majority has spoken. From now on every news piece will have its own thread. Thanks to all who participated.
  2. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Sep 14 2004, 09:06 AM) 'Bufotenine. Hell of an hallucinogen. He's gone. He won't be coming back anytime soon.' (Pause). 'Discovery Channel.' Hint: This movie is a comedy.
  3. QUOTE (Moonraker @ Sep 17 2004, 12:44 PM) Is it just me, or do there seem to be WAY TOO MANY remakes noadays. On TV, there are quite a few of the older tv sitcoms being redone, a whole slew of horror movie remakes in the last year. Before (and still is), it was the curse of the sequal that was hitting us, now the trend is moving to remakes. Is it just me, or does it seem like there is no more creative writing in entertainment anymore? HEAR HEAR! I couldn't agree more!
  4. QUOTE (Indica @ Sep 17 2004, 03:28 PM) QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Sep 17 2004, 09:31 AM) Has everyone who wanted to do so voted? I'll be closing this poll soon. No, give me a few more days to decide. Are you serious?

  6. I like Denzel Washington. But it seems like every movie he is in has essentially the same element. Everything is going along just fine, but then someone comes along and pisses him off and he goes after them and exacts bloody revenge. Look, if you are ever in a movie with Denzel Washington, don't make him angry!
  7. QUOTE (DonnaWanna @ Sep 17 2004, 09:11 AM) Freddy Vs Jason No. Sorry.

He won't be coming back anytime soon.' (Pause). 'Discovery Channel.' Dangitall! I KNOW I've heard this.... Ok, a guess outta the blue. 13 Ghosts? (I know it's probably not your type of flick, Jack.) No, not '13 Ghosts'. (I saw it, it was all right.)

  11. From IGN Filmforce: September 15, 2004 - Housed within the massive Admiralty Hanger No. 2 near Bedford outside of London is the set for one of next summer's most anticipated releases, Batman Begins. Starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman and directed by Christopher Nolan, IGN FilmForce's Jeff Otto was one of a very select group of media allowed to tour the set of Gotham City itself. Although we have agreed not to give the complete details of the experience until our full set visit coverage in January, I am able to give a brief rundown of the visit and experience along with a few words from Christian Bale. The set itself is, to put it lightly, massive. The floor area is the size of 16 Olympic-size swimming pools and it would take 8,338 of London's double-decker buses to equal its volume. During the course of the day, we walked around the set, checking out the Gotham slums, the streets, Arkham Asylum and even an extensive viewing of the Batmobile and the Batsuit. The Batmobile is truly a sight to behold. Said to clear 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds, the vehicle features 400 pounds of torque housed within its stealth-like body. This is a vehicle of purpose. It's not slick, shiny or curvy, but its usefulness to the dark knight makes total sense. It is painted in a non-reflective flat black, has four monster truck tires on the back and two on the front, and a flip-top, tank-like hatch. When the engine roars to life and the beaming front lights are flipped on, this is one intimidating, bad-ass vehicle. Unlike the previous incarnations, the Batmobile is not based on any production vehicle. It was built completely from the ground up. The Batsuit is also quite impressive. It bears the closest resemblance to the version from the Tim Burton Batman films, but is even darker and less flashy. The bat-symbol is set on black against the black of the costume. There are no nipples, but rather a chiseled muscle outline across the chest. The cape is built of an entirely new material and flaps elegantly in the wind. Finally, the utility belt is a dark gold and features various cigarette-sized pockets and round tubes. Unfortunately, we were unable to check out the gadgets housed within. Before the day was over, we were able to speak with Bale, Gary Oldman (who plays Commissioner Gordon), director Christopher Nolan, his wife and producer Emma Thomas as well as the set designer, the men behind the design of the Batmobile and the designer of the Batsuit. You will be able to see those full interviews in the upcoming feature on the visit. For now, a few words with Bale will have to suffice. On the Batsuit: "I'm not going to bitch about the suit, you know? There's a quote from me that some of the people had on the back of their t-shirt that said, 'It's hot, dark and sweaty and it gives me a headache,' which is absolutely true, but there's nothing more annoying than hearing actors bitch about their work and stuff like that. You know, I'm playing Batman, for gosh sakes. That's pretty fantastic. I'm not going to complain about getting a little bit sweaty..." On the Batmobile: "I actually only drove the Batmobile for the first time last week... I would love to say it's me driving the Batmobile in the movie, but it's probably not... The noise is incredible. It's like having Ozzy Osborne kinda screaming in your ear the whole time..." On the stunt work: "I gotta tell you, I was up for doing a lot more stunts than they would actually let me do... We did a lot of wirework rehearsals before we started filming and, I think, however, they got a bit of cold feet after the stunt man one day came down on the wire and just landed straight on his face. And so at that point they thought, 'Ah, let's rethink just how much we're gonna let Christian do this..." I asked Bale how he winds down after a long day of playing such a moody, dark hero. Bale was quick with an amusing response: "I go out and kick the s**t out of criminals." Stay tuned to IGN for more info on Batman Begins and for an upcoming feature article with a more expanded look at the set and talks with the aforementioned cast and crew. -- Jeff Otto

  14. From Dark Horizons: 'Ghost Rider' roars in Melbourne One of the worst kept secrets in the Australian film industry has finally hit the papers. The Age reports that Melbourne's struggling Docklands studios have secured the biggest film to be shot in the state, a $40 million adaptation of the Marvel comic "Ghost Rider". Nicolas Cage is still rumoured to be in negotiations for the lead role as a motorcycle stuntman who does a deal with an evil character to gain supernatural powers. Shooting is scheduled for five months from January next year and will take place at the Central City Studios and on location in the city and regional areas. The film is scheduled to be Columbia Pictures' major summer release for 2006. The decision to shoot the classic comic at the new studios is seen by the Government as a vindication of the State Government's decision to invest more than $40 million in the controversial studio project. Along with various other local productions, a new version of the children's classic "Charlotte's Web" is expected to shoot there at about the same time. (Jack here: I know that many of you who read the title of this post may have thought that it had to do with the proposed biopic about our favorite drummer. Sorry about that.)
  15. From CNN: Slurs in 'Shark Tale'? Studio says no Wednesday, September 15, 2004 Posted: 1:47 PM EDT (1747 GMT) LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- DreamWorks SKG Tuesday defended its upcoming animated film "Shark Tale" against mounting criticism from Italian-American groups who say the movie's gangster-like Shark characters foster ethnic stereotypes. Studio spokesman Andy Spahn said the emphasis of the film's humor was on pop culture and Hollywood parodies, similar to DreamWorks' hit storybook satires "Shrek" and "Shrek 2." "It's a family comedy that pokes fun at a number of film genres," Spahn told Reuters. "It doesn't demean anyone, there are no negative stereotypes. There is nothing mean-spirited in the film." He even suggested that the shark characters were not depicted in an altogether negative light. "Villains become heroes over the course of this film," he said. DreamWorks' defense of the computer-animated movie, which premiered last week at the Venice International Film Festival, came as the New York-based Columbus Citizens Foundation joined an outcry from Italian-American groups condemning the film. "Shark Tale" opens October 1 in the United States. The movie centers on a boastful tropical fish named Oscar (voiced by Will Smith) who is hailed as a hero of the reef but finds himself in hot water after he pretends to have slain the son of the godfather of great white sharks, Don Lino, voiced by Robert De Niro. "The movie introduces young minds to the idea that people with Italian names -- like millions of Americans across the country -- are gangsters," Columbus Citizens president Lawrence Auriana said in a statement. He also accused DreamWorks co-founder Steven Spielberg of "being hypocritical" for supporting the film's creation despite his high-profile association with causes dedicated to fighting racial and ethnic prejudice. But Spahn said Spielberg had "nothing to do with the movie. ... Steven runs our live-action business." In Venice last week, De Niro dismissed criticism leveled by a group called the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, which wrote to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi urging him to cancel plans to bestow honorary Italian citizenship on the actor. The group said De Niro did not deserve the honor because he had "made a career of playing gangsters of Italian descent." "The characters I played are real. They have as much right to be portrayed as any others," said De Niro, who won an Oscar for his 1974 role in "Godfather: Part II" and also played gangsters in "Goodfellas," "Casino" and "Analyze This."
  16. QUOTE (Indica @ Sep 15 2004, 05:29 PM) I'm sure some people will watch it. I used to love the show as a kid so I'll probably watch it. It's better than star wars I bet. Depends on which 'Star Wars' you're referring to. Given a choice between watching Jessica Simpson or Jar-Jar, I'll take Simpson. Even though I find her mentally repulsive, she is still less annoying.
  17. Yeah, but is anybody going to go see it?
