    OH MY GOD!

QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Apr 18 2012, 12:10 PM) To those who are complaining about the "lack of melody" in this song -- this is a heavy rock song. With heavy rock vocals. If you don't like Rush playing heavy rock that's one thing, but don't cry about the lack of melody in a song like this. Want melodic Rush? Go listen to "Rivendell." what about songs like freewill and tom sawyer, etc. they strike me as "hard rocking" but also have melody

QUOTE (ReRushed @ Apr 18 2012, 11:38 AM) QUOTE (gedfan @ Apr 18 2012, 12:35 PM) can't you understand how a rush fan still wants to listen to new rush as much as possible to let it sink in? jesus, you act like i'm the first fan to not be thrilled upon first listen. i didn't say i hated it, just didn't strike me as that melodic on first listen. p.s. it's "'you're'" asking.." It's not melodic. The melody is the weakest part of the song. The playing and the energy is what I initially liked about it. exactly. thank you.

QUOTE (Merely Space @ Apr 18 2012, 11:23 AM) Wow, that song makes seven minutes disappear very quickly. I love the section at 6:21 where the music backs off and Geddy's voice comes out strong! unfortunately, that was the only time i found a melody to latch on to

  9. QUOTE (wilb1972 @ Apr 12 2012, 02:11 PM) QUOTE Some lyrics for HF made it to the web....... http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rush/headlong...t_21013313.html Where's the line about stoking the fires of the steel wheels or whatever? or the "some days were dark / some nights were bright / i wish that i could live it all again" lines?

Maybe someone who's heard Headlong Flight can comment. Ahem maybe so

  12. QUOTE (Phantom @ Apr 11 2012, 04:59 PM)First off, I love the cover. Secondly, based on the fact that the track we've all been talking about is Headlong Flight, I assumed that the 30 second clip is from that track. However, I'm wondering now if the clip is from the track " Clockwork Angels "? I noticed that video clip says Rush, " Clockwork Angels ". hmmmmmmm I'm almost certain that the 30 second clip is not Headlong Flight--not the entirety of the clip at least. I'm sure at least one of those parts is probably HF, but the clip is supposedly an "album trailer," so that clip must be made up of more than HF. I'd bet on it.
  13. Anybody else have that sinking feeling that all the hype, and then the delay before the release, is going to backfire? I feel like the tweets got everyone pumped/excited...and now the delay has everyone really itching to hear this new awesome tune (supposedly)...but I am now fearing that it won't nearly live up to the hype... This isn't to say that I think HF won't be a good tune, just that expectations are high on all levels and now the song has a lot more to live up to it might not have had otherwise.
  14. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Apr 6 2012, 10:02 AM) QUOTE (trenken @ Apr 6 2012, 09:57 AM) The one thing Im hoping for isnt an option in the poll, something that's been missing since the 80s IMO, more adventurous song writing. That doesnt necessarily mean longer, but you look at a song like Red Barchetta, it has a good amount of parts and variety, highs and lows, it really feels like a journey musically. They got away from that and just started writing much simpler songs with standard issue structures and have never gotten back to that kind of writing. That's what I want. +1
  15. QUOTE (Gilbertk @ Apr 6 2012, 05:57 PM) QUOTE (gedfan @ Apr 6 2012, 05:55 PM) as a longtime fan, i'd really like to think highly of CA...S&A was kind of a let down for me...of course, the downside to a well-received CA is that it could seal the band to a seinfeld-like fate: going out while you're on top. i mean, if the album and the tour are very successful and well-liked, why risk making a "final" album that is a let down? maybe no album after CA and just and R40/goodbye tour? That's something I really hate thinking about.. The end is inevitable, but I don't like thinking about it at all. absolutely...but might as well go out on top, right? i mean, if they can close again, right?

  18. QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ Apr 5 2012, 04:44 PM) Well, all I know is that while it's fun to read what people think of it since that's all we have for now I'm just not making any assumptions based on what I've read. If it's a great song but I don't think it sounds anything like what we've been told then that's perfectly fine with me, it'll still be a great song. But I'm a little concerned that some fans may have created in their heads some sort of fantasy song based on all the labels and comparisons we've seen and when combined with the wait to hear it it's going to lead to disappointment even if it's a really great song, there's going to be a backlash. If we heard the song in a vacuum with no preconceptions and not knowing when we'd hear it it would be a much fairer evaluation. As it is a lot of people who may in that situation have gone "Wow, this is so cool!" are now going to be saying "Yeah, I guess it's ok but I just thought it would be a lot better based on what we've heard." That'll be unfortunate but inevitable I'm afraid. I'm sure it'll sound closest to Caravan which could be fairly described in the same way. "It's longer than average and has moody atmospheric keyboard bits. It's got a lot of stop/start heavy riffs and a long instrumental section with great drum fills and athletic bass playing and a fast, quirky Lifeson solo. And it's part of a sci-fi suite." Now, I think Caravan is great and that description is perfectly accurate. But those words alone would excite many Rush fans who in reality don't care much for the song at all. That's why this is meaningless. yep yep
  19. QUOTE (That One Guy @ Mar 28 2012, 07:43 PM) Like everyone else, I'm extremely excited for Clockwork Angels, and the fall tour. But when the Time Machine Tour was announced, I got my hands on the setlist as fast as i could and stared it downtil the concert. This left little surprise in my mind during the show. I think for this tour (one of the last) I'm gonna do myself a personal favorite and absolutely not take a peek at the setlist before the show... Complete surprise every time a song ends, wondering what the next song will be.. It sure wasn't fun the last two years knowing exactly how many songs were left before the show was over. Has anyone ever starved themselves of the playlist before the tour? Was it worth it? I was able to do this for TM in 2010 because I was attending the first show in Albuquerque...much to my chagrin, however, much of the setlist was revealed to me minutes before the show because the damn tourbook listed video credits for specific songs...so, unfortunately, presto, marathon, etc. were not quite the nice surprises they would/could have been
  20. QUOTE (presto123 @ Mar 30 2012, 02:36 PM) Another tweet from a Grover Collins who is a DJ in Cincinnatti: Just heard new RUSH single from upcoming CD "Clockwork Angels" called "Headlong Flight"...Old school RUSH fans rejoice! It ROCKS 74-77 era! So now we have at least four guys who are gushing over this new Rush tune. They are not just saying it is a good song yada yada. They are gushing. I have a hard time believing now that this won't be a great song. What puzzles me is that some describe it as 70's sound and some 80's. I do really hope this record is a combination of all Rush eras and I think maybe that is what they were going for on this record. We'll soon see. Good news nonetheless i think the single has been described as 70s rush, and the comment about 80s rush was in relation to the album as a whole, no?
