For mastering a brilliant album so dreadfully... I'm sorry, but I have listened to the ACTUAL CD several times now and it really, truly sucks as regards the sonic clarity. I can almost forgive Nick R and all his enthusiasm, "conducting" prowess, but whatever multi-tracks he passed on to Bernie have been sonically destroyed with over compression. Do the boys care? I don't know. Perhaps they're thinking that having done their collective best in the studio, Nick and Bernie would sort it all out for them... On the other hand, maybe this mess of a production is par the course these days and Rush are just going along with it as a Foo Fighting, "measure of the time" Regardless, the album is a complete and utter sonic mess... Over to you Peter Collins ...
  2. QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Jun 9 2012, 07:25 PM) There is a ton of text on this side of the poster (the beige one, the boys picture on the back). Closer look reveals these are names. An even closer look has MY name on there! Is this all the people who bought the fan pack? Sorry for any cross postings. Who's a clever boy then...

Absolutely dreadful "Producer" Why is he a producer? Who is he? Why are the Rush boys putting their collective faith in this compression happy, grunge loving idiot? Terry Brown anyone? Every "producer" since has been a mistake, hence the continual search. Perhaps Terry is the Watchmaker... Couldn't be any worse.
  4. QUOTE (UltimoGuitarist @ Jun 5 2012, 09:05 PM) I'm seeing a lot of people hella enjoying up themselves some The Garden. Personally I'm always more driven towards songs that are musically challenging/interesting than lyrics. I don't usually pay much attention to lyrics in general in fact. Having said that, I'm not a huge fan of The Garden. So I'm not understanding the hype. I might even go as far as to say it blows, just to stir the controversial pot. =p Anyone else out there share my distaste for the song? Or is it just me. PS: Just want to say that the majority of the album is flipping amazing. I just don't care for this song, or BU2B2 or Halo Effect. Too boring... Given your little post, I don't think you pay much attention to grammar and/or education in general, sonny boy

I think Alex uses too much distortion and there may be too much overdubbing. Well and sometimes I really don't hear what Geddy sings. I really miss the drum mixing they used in 70s and early 80s. I liked how the drums were loud and crystal clear. Now you don't hear them that clearly. But I'm still waiting the Fanpack to arrive and these are only minor complaints. The album sounds mostly great. I agree... IMHO I think that Alex has lost his way a bit in terms of guitar sounds and structure. He is going for a complete balls out, double tracked print and IMHO it just aint working. Maybe its Nick with his Foo Fighter production technique? Whatever the case, it isn't working for me. Modern production/mastering techniques be damned for a second, I'm struggling to hear the bloody vocals for the ambient noise! Furthermore, Neil's kit sounds like its struggling to make its way out of a microwave popcorn bag. I actually hear a wide range of guitar textures on this album. Indeed there are. Unfortunately, they are simply not DEFINED due to the actual production/mastering process. Again, this is is just my opinion. Can you tell us what system you are playing the factory made cd on? Yes of course, There are several... My Genelec 824 studio monitors, Yamaha 5.1 Surround system, iPod through Sennheiser HD-50 head phones. Sound is so "squeezed" that it is almost beyond definition. Again, perhaps its just me, an old fart with old ears, but I tend to like my music with a tad of compression as opposed to compression with a tad of music

  8. QUOTE (Sir Lerxst @ Jun 5 2012, 10:35 PM) QUOTE (Terrapin @ Jun 5 2012, 11:18 PM) after numerous listenings to the actual CD Most replies so far seem to have missed this vital piece of the post. Personally, I am finding the vocals to be loud enough, but on the lower level of acceptable. This
  9. I really don't want to be "Negative Nancy" or a "Debbie Downer" regarding CA, but I'm afraid after numerous listenings to the actual CD, in several different environments, I'm finding it very hard to hear Geddy's vocals. Indeed, the whole CD appears to be far too compressed to my ears. A real shame as in my opinion, Neil has written some of his best lyrics for quite a while and Geddy has sung them with an exuberance and melodic quality that is at some points, spine tingling. Unfortunately, due to the production/mastering it is very difficult just to sit back, relax and simply enjoy these qualities, as it just turns into an over compressed listening experience. Perhaps its just the digital age, or maybe my age (45) but the this beautifully written and performed suite has been compromised by the almost "phoned in" production. Yes, it's brickwalled. I've inserted tracks into both Logic and Pro tools here in my studio and they are peaking - big time. Again, maybe its just me. Perhaps this is the way we are supposed to listen to music these days - par for the course? Either way, I love the songs - hate the production Just my opinion. Regards, T

Nice to see so many familiar names on the poster too! I'm off to play it now, the cd that is, not the poster. What's the deal with this poster? It seems to have the names of EVERYONE that has ordered the fanpack on it!

Ordered it in April.... Thanks I ordered mine in April as well, a few days after it was announced if I remember correctly. They must have dispatched to Ireland earlier than to mainland UK, thinking it would take longer to get there. Not sure if there's any rhyme or reason to it... My mate in Spain got his 3 days ago, he only ordered it recently. Our postal service here has always been "interesting".... Ha ha! Interesting isn't the word! I'm sure you'll find it worth the wait!
  12. QUOTE (Unobtrusive Companion @ Jun 5 2012, 05:54 PM)I'll echo a question asked in another thread - Did you receive an email saying the fanpack had been dispatched, or did it just arrive with no prior warning? Yes, received an email from them on Friday morning stating that it had been dispatched.
  13. I must say, its quite an impressive little package. I think people are going to really enjoy it!

  15. So, tickets go on sale a year in advance...a WHOLE year. Who on Earth knows what they're doing in a years time? Cynical marketing attempt me thinks. Buy them now, sell 'em later...

Dear Net Boys and Net Girls, I'm very hurt by your "most horrible" comments calling me a "fanboy" "Fanboi" etc... It isn't my fault that Neil called you all out and predicted your behaviour with a song called, "Virtuality" Do you people, in the REAL world, actually think and/or believe that Neil, Alex and Geddy are so sad, as to live their collective lives in a cyber world based upon a Rush "Forum"? They couldn't care less about it! "Virtuality" indeed!

Thus, he assumed I was dumb, and couldn't spell. Ironic! Also, he seemed to get very angry when the post wasn't even directed at him. I apologize to you sir, if you do so accept. Unless you're just mad because I didn't enjoy the OP's post. In which case, I don't care. "Butthurt" is a "Term" now? No wonder Peart wrote a song about you idiots back in '96 ....he said, on an internet forum. Uh, yes. Well deciphered Sherlock.
  18. Keep it coming... this is hilarious! Looking forward to the face/palm thing!

They are ending their career with an album in the same league as MP, Signals & 2112. But that's just MY opinion, my taste, my deal... Coolio? Ah, Tony R , the basement dwelling, "Prog Archivist" returns with his acerbic wit for yet another round... Go on mate, bore me some more... Too much maketh the dolt misquote. James Joyce said that so it must be true. Do they have basements in Ireland? They don't tend to in good old Blighty. I guess the spiel impresses the younger Yanks. I apologize (or is it apologise) most profusely... Your basement/cellar dwelling includes a limited degree of literature along with with your prog "Archives" Irish? Yank? What's up with that? Surely a "man" of your intelligence isn't reduced to racist comments? I'd never refer to you as... Well, you can work out the rest, sunshine
  21. QUOTE (Tigershark2112 @ May 12 2012, 10:30 PM) Exactly... "Virtuality" anybody? Fairly predictable...
  22. QUOTE (Tigershark2112 @ May 12 2012, 09:22 PM) Someone's butthurt... If spelling and grammar were as easy as posting little pics on an internet forum and considering it as an anonymous "AVATAR" you might be considered somewhat intelligent. As it stands, you're just another interweb tool. (Insert Smiley) You'll just sit at home, pound furiously on your little computer, moan to Mom and Dad, get back on the computer and continue with your depressingly, boring "life" Carry on, should be most entertaining!
