  1. An excellent thread indeed! Nice to see Rush fans reconnect with the music as the years "Fly By Night" into the darkness of eternity. Hey Writer! So far so good!! RUSH ON! Earl
  2. QUOTE (Goobertastic @ Sep 21 2006, 08:44 PM) Thank you for sharing, Rushman666. You just made me decide to get a RUSH tattoo. Probably the Star Man design. Hey Goobertastic! I am flattered!! That is awesome!! I have no tattoos on my body but I have always said that if I ever get one it will be the STARMAN on my right shoulder! I was down at Petco Park for the Oakland A's V. Padres series in beautiful San Diego this summer. I took the family down there for a nice one week vacation and caught all three games. Anyway, my family and I are standing out by center field at the day game, and there were a bunch of A's fans there. Unreal to be honest. Well I am standing next to this stranger who was wearing all of his A's gear like me. We start talking about the A's and stuff, and to be honest I have no idea how the hell I brought up RUSH but I did. This dude turned to me and said: "You love Rush dude!!! Check this out!!!" Sure enough this guy lifted up his short sleeve A's shirt, and there it was, a giant STARMAN TATTOO!! I was very surprised!! A frigging A's fan in San Diego with a STARMAN TATTOO? GO FIGURE!!! Forget the RAIDER NATION! We have the RUSH NATION!! Actually it should be the RUSH WORLD!!!! RULES! "Half the World loves RUSH while the other half has no clue!"
  3. I can't stand Christian Music. I finally stopped buying Neal Morse solo cds because it is way too much. Even though Mike Portnoy drums on the records, I did not buy the last one. Enough is enough. I still have all my Spock's Beard cds though! Oh yeah and I hate Stryper too but I do own the banned cover of the Japanese cd "TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL." Would you consider "KING'S X" to be a Christian band? It doesn't matter to me because they are an excellent band! Wasn't CREED supposed to be a Christian band?? GREED is more like it. I never liked this weak band. Remember that hypocritical drug addict/alcoholic bum lead singer, Scott Stapp? Yeah, nothing like passing out on stage shitfaced at one of Creed's NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED SHOWS! Lame!
  4. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Sep 21 2006, 12:26 PM) My friend's mother got all preachy to her when she discovered she listened to hard rock and heavy metal. She claimed that Rush was satanic (because of "Witch Hunt," ironically!) and so was Styx, because of their name (a river in Hades). She also said that many bands, and probably Rush and Styx included, put backwards messages on their albums. I laughed when I heard. Styx?? They're so benign! I told my friend that if Styx had a backwards message on one of their albums, it would probably say, "Drink milk. Stay in school." She laughed. BTW... Geddy was asked during the MFH promotional tour if "RUSH" stood for anything. He said the band used to joke that it stood for "Ray, U Shit Head" - a reference to their manager, Ray Danniels. Awesome Geddy! Earl
  5. Hey Steel! You had me going for a second. A Political Forum is set in stone. Now a Religion Forum too? Wow man, if that Forum really did exist, I would really start counting the days down to October 5th! That's my one month anniversary for access!
  6. I agree with your post Strangiatoman! But what really bugs me is Neal Morse. The EX-lead singer of "Spock's Beard" and then he goes off the deep end of Christian Faith and every song he writes is over the top GOD! Why did he take the leap of Faith? Even Mike Portnoy still drums for the guy? I do own some of the Morse solo stuff but man it's just the same broken record redundant Christian stuff! Why? Hey, I still have my one STRYPER cd from Japan!! Remember that Christian band in the yellow and black stripes?? I have "TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL" with the banned artwork with the obi strip. Nice little piece to the collection. GOD is a good thing man, I just don't buy into the whole deal. I will wait for "Judgement Day!" That's a WHITESNAKE song wih Steve Vai on guitar! Great song. Good night now! Jim Rome
  7. QUOTE (Kid_Gloves @ Sep 20 2006, 08:12 PM) QUOTE (Bluefunk @ Sep 20 2006, 04:16 PM) I uploaded the 'Free Alex' movie- it's a Real player file: http://www.rogepost.com/dn/kn65/lifeson-arrest.rm And this is the pic of Neil and his late family: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/Bluefunk/s_Family1.jpg A nice picture, but a sad one. Hey Kid Gloves! I remember seeing this picture many times. Call me weak, but I wept when I saw this one after Neil's daughter and wife passed within the same year. Sad indeed.
  8. These pictures are incredible. After all these decades I never even thought about their family pictures. I always thought that was a private issue. Thanks again for the wake up call. Some RUSH fan I am........................... The 2112 Pirate thing with Alex was very cool on the "VT" Tour!
  9. BINGO! Vital Signs!!! You never let me down! That's it!! Cheers! Earl
  10. QUOTE (YYZ Working Man @ Sep 20 2006, 07:22 PM) You have too much time on your hands - way too much Hey YYZ! Isn't that a STYX tune???? They were into Satan too right?? The River "Styx!" My little essay only took me 35 minutes to write! My typing skills are getting better everyday!! Earl
  11. This story I am about to tell is based on my passion for RUSH so I hope this thing isn't moved "Between the Wheels" of No Return! So, it's funny how I posted that "Roll the Bones" thread and all of the sudden I read about the Starman being Satanic. I never knew about the backmasking on the "2112 Grand Finale." Is that Urban Legend or fact? I have heard the Satanic stuff on ZOSO and I even heard "It's fun to smoke marijuana" on the Queen "Another One Bites the Dust" 45 single. Anyway, the RUSH stands for RULING UNDER SATAN'S HANDS really bugged me for a long time. Then of course decades ago my buddy showed my the profile of the devil's face inside the left part of the Starman's naked body! I was like blown away. You can see the long horn in the left arm and the eye and the mouth and pointed chin into the left leg! WOW! I thought. But hey then when I became a freshman in high school things changed. I am sure there are a lot of Christians on here so I am not trying to offend your belief of faith in anyway. Before my freshman year in the summer 1983 my parents put me in this Christian summer camp for a week in the Santa Cruz mountains in California. Mount Herman was the name of this place. Well this camp had an over the top Jesus Freak Mentality. I could see the brainwashing begin before my very own eyes. I believed in GOD back then, but I didn't want to be forced to give my soul to Jesus just yet either. After all I was a young kid who was only 2 years into RUSH music. Well one afternoon I was walking by the rec room and I saw a sign on the door. Come see the "SATANIC ALBUM ART WORK SLIDE SHOW AT 3:00pm!" I was very interested in that, so I showed up at 3:00 pm sharp with bells on! As the slide show began they were showing us kids all this album art that represented witch craft and Satan! Here are some examples: EAGLES- "Hotel California." Is you open up the gatefold on the record and look up you can see the bald Mr. Crowley starring down with open arms dressed in black. OZZY- "Blizzard of Oz." Of course! The upside giant cross on the wall. STEVIE NICKS- "Bella Donna" They said that she was a witch and those white flowers by the tambourine were poisonous. BEATLES- "Sgt. Peppers" They said that those flowers on the cover were poisonous too and that they were into backmasking. Very evil, very bad!!! IRON MAIDEN- "Number of the Beast" The album title and cover say it all! There were a bunch more album covers in that slide show, but I will let your mind think of a few. But then in my little mind the shit really hit the fan. They showed the "Moving Pictures" cover!!! I was like holy crap!!!! No way! They pointed out the pictures of course. The dogs playing cards was a strange witch thing and then of course the witch burning with the cross by her head as well! LAME! "WITCH HUNT" IS A SONG MORONS!!!!!! Sorry my Rush droogies, that was not the only Rush cover they had that dreadful day. One of the next slides was a picture of CARESS OF STEEL!!! Remember someone on here asked about what that cover is all about?? Well I am not an expert but these so-called Christian camp counselors were telling us kids that it was a Satanic/Warlock cover. That is all I can remember! Nonetheless I was shocked again! But then I almost had a small stroke! The next album cover they showed us was "2112!!!" I couldn't believe my eyes!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I thought to myself!! RUSH IS SATANIC!! IT'S TRUE!!!! Well guys, here is the kicker!! They said that the red star was a Satanic pentagram! But come on if you have a brain you would realize that it is an OPEN RED STAR!!!! It's NOT a frigging pentagram!!!!! PATHETIC!! Well I saw that slide and ran out of the room with anger and disbelief. I ran back to my cabin to reflect on the bullshit my eyes had seen. My counselor was there and I said to him: "I can't believe 2112 by my favorite rock band RUSH is Satanic!" The dude said, and I will never forget this as long as I live: "Well Earl, if you add 2+1+1+2 it equals 6!!! Hence 666!!! The Number of the Beast!" I think I actually started to tear up. I was pissed. But hey, that is the reason why my screen name is RUSHHEAD666! No I am not into Satan. Sorry to disappoint you. Not a Christian or an atheist either. Agnostic more like it. Nuff said. Anyway, I put that 666 on my screen name to pay homage to all of those stupid lies and bullshit that they were trying to feed our minds at that Christian Camp!!! Amen Rush Brothers and Sisters! What about Miles Davis and Black Sabbath?? Guess they believe in the devil too!! LIVE EVIL Holy Diver? Dio! PS: I read an article somewhere when Neil was being asked about all that Satanic crap that people have thought about over the years. Neil pretty much said it was all nonsense! Even that profile of the devil in STARMAN is a just a coincidence!!
  12. Thanks a lot "Ghost of a Rider!" Happy to be here!! RUSH is the best "thinking man/woman's" band! Sincerely, "Digital Man"
  13. QUOTE (liquidcrystalcompass @ Sep 20 2006, 10:50 AM) This is so cool. I'm wondering if he's getting the itch to tour with The Police again....... I wish they would tour again. Too bad Andy and Stewart HATE Sting. It will never happen. Hope I am wrong! Hey maybe David Lee Roth can go back to Van Halen too!! I wish! Earl
  14. Pat! You are one smart cat! I love this place! Earl
  15. Silly me! I forgot about this little thread! Yep! Easy question I know! Just having fun! Earl
  16. Thanks you guys! You know Rulz, now it is all coming back to me!! I remember learning years ago that it was a children's song. I had no idea it was sung in Yiddish! No wonder it doesn't make sense!!! Shame on me for not looking through my ESL booklet! I'm at work right now typing about RUSH! Loving it! Thanks for the refresher course!! RUSH RULES!!! Earl
  17. First of I want to thank you guys for breaking down the "burp" blurb in "The Camera Eye." So now I have another question for those who care! What the heck is Geddy singing about in the EXIT STAGE LEFT version of "La Villa Strangiato?" I believe it is on the "Danforth and Pape" section of the song!! Care to share any ideas??? Are the lyrics to "La Villa" written inside the sleeve of "Hemispheres?" I haven't read the inside sleeve in years!!! S.O.S. SAVE OUR SONG! Did you guys know that Danforth Avenue and Pape Street is an intersection in Toronto??? "Buenos Nochas Mein Froinds!" Earl
  18. I agree! The remaster does sound better than the gold disc! Hey least you have the missing verse variant!! I like the song better without the verse! You?
  19. Stewart Copeland is at it again. Not only is this guy one of the best drummers on the planet but he can compose and now he directed and made his own movie!! He went to the Sundance Film Festival and the movie obtained some serious sweet criticism!! Over the years in The Police, Stewie had an 8mm camera. He took it everywhere with him during the heyday of the band's success! He recorded over 20 hours of footage. Well he went to the editing room and made a movie out of it! He narrates throughout the film too. Says it like it is!! A classic for sure!!!! Go get it!!!!! Earl
  20. QUOTE (thestand @ Sep 15 2006, 06:28 PM) Couldn't stand this one. I think it was because it wanted to feel Tarantino-esque. It ended up on its face. I really did not enjoy this movie, and that doesn't happen often. Yeah I understand your point. No one can touch the master. I looked at it more as a homage to Tarantino and I thought Willis did a pretty good job. Christopher Walken's little watch story in "Pulp" is classic! I thought the "watch" symbolism in "Slevin" was simply paying homage to that "Pulp Fiction" scene. Not as a blatant rip off! Also having the "Kill Bill" connection with Lucy Liu was pretty cool. Oh well. Different strokes. Oh yeah by the way, Samuel L Jackson got screwed by the Oscars that year for "Best Supporting Actor" when "Pulp Fiction" only won "Best Screenplay." What a bunch of shit! Sincerely, Ed Wood
  21. HOLY TOLEDO!!! YOU MADE MY DAY!!!! Can't wait!! When is the release date? Do you have the other rare packaging for the 10 year anniversary?? Featuring 6 different cardboard slipcases of Mr. White, Mr. Pink, etc, etc. SWEET! Earl
  22. Quick trivia question Rush addicts! What does the SRO mean for the Canadian Company that got RUSH off the ground??
  23. Hey Tang! Eric Johnson is GREAT!!!! An amazing guitar player. I have seen Eric twice. Once is a small club and then on the first G3 Tour! Do have "Bloom?" Very mellow but I totally dig it!! Earl
  24. QUOTE (I Get High On You @ Aug 23 2006, 12:57 AM) Obviously, Alex Lifeson is a tragically underrated guitarist. He was inexplicably left off Rolling Stone's Top 100, whereas musicians like Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell (were they even guitarists?) were included. Perhaps the editors had temporarily forgotten what list they were compiling? Or maybe it's just 'cause it's Rolling Stone. Anyway, I love Alex Lifeson's style, but I wouldn't rank him as my very favorite guitarist (though he is in my top ten or twenty). My all-time favorite guitarist is Stevie Ray Vaughan (see avatar). Listening to his solo work makes me want to cry (think Little Wing, Riviera Paradise). He plays so cleanly, with such finesse and skill and sense, but he also pours his heart and soul into every note. Nothing is wasted. And as a bonus, he has a killer bluesy voice. As a side-note, I'd like to pay my dues to jazz greats like Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, and Pat Martino. You are all-too-often neglected! So, what say you? There is no doubt that Stevie Ray Vaughan is the best guitarist ever! He is even above Jimi Hendrix! No one else could ever cover Jimi like Stevie Ray. R.I.P. SRV Rory Gallagher is another one of my favorites! Talk about underrated! The Irish Stevie Ray Vaughan!!! BIG GUNS!
  25. Hey Rulz! A classic post if you ask me!!!! Nice "Asia" reference!! I am sorry I missed this awesome post last night before I hit the sack! The movie is awesome!! I would not mislead you in anyway!!! Go get it! Earl
