  4. QUOTE (amish_ashaman @ Sep 4 2010, 02:18 AM) QUOTE (Rush! @ Sep 4 2010, 12:48 AM) ^Totally agree. A friend of mine & myself went to the show, and it was excellent. I made sure to keep away from this sub-forum so I didn't know anything about the setlist... Well I did know that they were going to perform MP in its entirety, which got me quite excited. And to Eric, I also noticed when Alex seemed to have a problem, if it was a broken string I couldn't tell... I think it may have been during Stick It Out, but I could be wrong also... Also was pleasantly surprised with a few of the songs, especially considering that I didn't know the setlist beforehand... Leave That Thing Alone was solid, as was Stick It Out... Faithless was great, & BU2B sounded phenomenal live. Didn't expect Marathon at all, that one really got me pumped up. And of course, hearing The Camera Eye live for the first time was a great experience for me. I realize not a lot of fans go crazy for it but I've always held it in high regard...and I did notice they cut out 2 short sections of it...but it was still stupendously performed. MP > Caravan > Drum Solo was by far my favorite 'stretch' of songs throughout the whole concert. Caravan sounds so sweet live! I was also surprised by the encore seeing as how they'd already played all of their 'hits' throughout the show...And it was an outstanding encore. Final word: The show was excellent, the sound was great, everything was top-quality.... Totally enjoyed myself, as did my friend. It is interesting to know that you were pleased with the setlist, considering that most of this forum was in an uproar once it was revealed. If you stayed away from this forum, then that also means that you probably stayed away from the hype as well, and rumors of Jacob's Ladder, stuff like that. I am thinking that more of us here would have been happier with the setlist had we not heard so many crazy rumors. I see...that's cool to know. I was on the forum, just not in this section or the Rush section. The only thing I knew for sure going to the show was that they were going to peform all of MP at some point. But yes I was almost completely surprised, & satisfied.
  5. QUOTE (sullysue @ Sep 3 2010, 12:20 PM) "Yes, probably going to do some kind of live audio album from Radio City/RAH - if we can play all of the old songs well enough!" More great news! It must be really cool to know that you were in the audience for a show that was recorded for an official album release.

  7. Really hope the show goes on as a friend of mine & myself have tickets for this.
  8. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Aug 27 2010, 08:04 AM) I've been sick, so not sure if this has been posted or not, but I hear their Radio City Music Hall show in September is going to be the last performance of The Incident in full and then the remaining two hours (yes, a 3 hour set!) will be material only up to (and including) Stupid Dream. So it looks like yet another stellar DVD will be on its way with little crossover material to their other two DVDs so far. Nice! This is wonderful, a buddy & I are going to that show!
  9. QUOTE (The K Man @ Aug 7 2010, 01:17 AM) That is always the best thing to do. If you enjoy it half as much as I am, you are in for a real treat! Oh yeah! And I'm sure I'll enjoy it... We'll see if it can top Neon Bible.
  10. QUOTE (The K Man @ Aug 7 2010, 12:50 AM) QUOTE (Rush! @ Aug 6 2010, 11:22 PM) I have not listened to 'The Suburbs' yet but I am hearing generally negative reviews nearly everywhere... I'm still going to listen to it...just pointing out the fact that it doesn't seem to be getting much good said about it, yet... Eh? Not sure where you are reading reviews, but most of the ones I have read have been extremely positive. And I am talking reviews from fans, not nitwit critics. Nah I've been reading fans' reviews, some on Rate Your Music, and a couple other sites. I'll judge it completely for myself when I get a chance to listen to it.

  12. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Aug 5 2010, 02:14 PM) The Crane Wife is a wonderful album. 100% Truth.
  13. The new release of R.E.M.'s Fables of the Reconstruction just came in today from Amazon... And it's so neat! It comes in this cool little cardboard box with a bonus disc of demos, new liner notes from Peter Buck, a giant poster of the artwork, and four postcards with each of the band members on them. LIstening to the re-master of the studio album now...A huge improvement from the original CD... I recommend this to any huge R.E.M. fan.
  14. QUOTE (theworkingman @ Jul 6 2010, 12:27 AM) My favorites (of the releases I have) What Makes A Man Start Fires Double Nickels on the Dime The Punch Line 3 Way Tie What Makes A Man Start Fires is totally underrated. Haven't listened to 3-Way Tie yet... But their Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat EP is seriously excellent. Definitely up to par with their full-length albums.
  15. QUOTE (Xanadu93 @ Jul 5 2010, 11:42 PM) QUOTE (Rush! @ Jul 5 2010, 10:31 PM)QUOTE (Xanadu93 @ Jul 5 2010, 09:51 PM) That's one that I really, really, really want to get sometime. I also recommend checking out the Minutemen. The majority of their lyrics and their general attitude is more punk and DIY-based, and their earlier records are musically more punk-sounding, but their middle period records are more rock and funk-based... They have a really cool, unique sound of their own. Check out the debut full-length album The Punch Line and their best (IMO) EP Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat. What about Double Nickels on the Dime? (That's the reason that I've heard of the Minutemen.) Is it as good as the hype? See I totally think it's as good as the hype... But some people struggle with it because there's 43 songs and the whole idea of it being an insanely long album freaks some out.. I love it though, I would check it out but I'd maybe listen to those other two I mentioned earlier...just to get a grasp on their sound. Double Nickels is definitely worth it, in fact I'd prolly say you could get it now. But I dunno, I think I'd recommend listening to those other two first, just to get a good 'starter' sample, so to speak.

  18. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jun 23 2010, 03:58 PM) QUOTE (ReRushed @ Jun 23 2010, 01:05 PM) QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Jun 7 2010, 11:01 AM) I'm in love with Built To Spill. I just finished listening to Perfect From Now On. They're awfully special, aren't they? Saw them support Dino Jr. a few weeks back, blew J Mascis off the stage. Finally tracked down a copy of Doug Martsch's solo album, should be here tomorrow! I've only heard There's Nothing Wrong With Love once, and that is also the only album I've yet heard by them...but it didn't quite catch on and I didn't think it was too good of a record. Prolly need to give it more chances. I have read that Perfect From Now On is considered their 'magnum opus' so to speak.
  19. QUOTE (Steevo @ Jun 15 2010, 05:12 PM) Keep going...must admit the middle does drag a bit. Still I rate the album pretty highly overall. I agree with this as well... IA is a great album but for me it begins to drop in quality starting around "Wedding Nails"...
  20. What I'd really enjoy experiencing is the entire VT album being performed live, but that's just wishful thinking... That being said, I'd be quite happy if they performed Freeze live.

  22. Insurgentes is amazing, definitely one of my favorite albums of 2009... Particularly enjoy Abandoner, Veneno Para Las Hadas, No Twilight Within the Courts of the Sun, Significant Other, and the title track. Those would be my top 5 favorites from the album. He got such great players to perform on the record too, & I love how Gavin stuck around for nearly all the songs.
