  1. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Nov 9 2004, 09:51 AM) Neil with the braided rat-tail! The ONLY person in the world who could carry THAT off. I could make you some 'high-res' scans of the Neil pics...if you'd like. The ones you see were scanned at a lower resolution. They can look much better I think.
  2. Yeah, they're not too bad for being so old. If I remember, I was about 20 rows up, directly stage right. A funny story accompanies this concert. I was still in high school and about 8 of us went to this show. Well one of my friends borrowed his fathers van, which had the real long windows on either side. He had picked up everyone but me and when he pulled into my driveway, he scrapped the whole right side along a tree that was in the corner drive. Shattering all the windows on the right side, with my father standing in the lawn doing yard work! How embarrasing. Anyhow, we scooped up all the glass, put it in plastic bags and went to the concert. During the trip, we decided to act like this happened downtown, where we parked. So, we parked the van, scattered the glass all around, in and out, then go into the show. After the concert, we walked right to a pay phone, called the cops, filed a report...and the insurance company payed for the whole thing! Funny huh? **I also found some of the greatest Van Halen pics from the 1984 tour. These are by far the best concert pics I've ever taken. Will try to post them later today.
  3. Was looking through some boxes tonight and found a ton of old concert photos I took. I used to take my 35mm to many shows till I got busted and security took my Minolta X700 (this was 20yrs ago)..........ouch! Anyhow, I scanned some of the Grace Under Pressure pics from The St. Louis Arena. Put them in a web photo album for everyone to enjoy. (also found all kinds of other concert photos, might post some later) Old Tour Photos

  8. QUOTE (RushRevisited @ Nov 8 2004, 11:32 AM) QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Nov 5 2004, 11:50 AM) Yep, you know exactly what it takes. It's a very patient hobby, not for everyone. What's so funny about astronomy is, you invite friends over for a viewing party. You find some cool object that mabey some of them have seen or heard about before. Then you show them through the eyepiece and they always say "well that doesn't look like the pictures I've seen". Because most every picture published nowdays comes from the Hubble. Taken over the course of many hours. And of course, no telescope on earth can get photos anywhere near that quality. Plus, they're all Photoshopped to make them pretty. ie:The planet Saturn is WHITE...not all colorful like everyone thinks! Here is my Ultima 2000 8" w/2" eyepiece http://www.mikekreidel.com/Scope1.jpg http://www.mikekreidel.com/Scope2.jpg "Keep looking up"!! Well I finally got to see Saturn this weekend - VERY VERY cool!!! But one quetsion on your previous comment, launch - why IS it white appearing?? Even the rings were bright white! Not what I expected, but VERY VERY exciting and cool just the same! Ah, a very good and interesting question. Well, there are a few explainations for the white color. First you must understand that all those great images you see of the universe are 'false color' or at least modified. If you were to attach a camera to your scope and take some pics of saturn, it would be white, But if you took 3 seperate pics, one each in red, blue and green, than combined them in Photoshop, you could get a realistic color composite image. Reasons for the white appearance: 1) Saturns atmosphere is made up of mostly ammonia ice crystals. And ice by nature is white. Therefore it will reflect all light wave forms or...white light! 2) The rings are also mostly ice, with a fair amount of other compounds. This is why some of the pics you see of the rings have vivid color. Because these 'other' compounds are not ice and have colors to them, which would translate to colors on film. 3) If you notice Jupiter is also mostly white except you Can see it's red belts and more features than Saturn. It's atmosphere is more gaseous than Saturns and can be seen through more easily. 4) Neptunes color is blue because its atmosphere is all Methane gas, which absorbes red light and leaves mostly blue to reflect and shine. These are just are few explainations, there are many more technical reasons but these are the easiest to grasp. Here's a pic of the rings in 'natural light'.http://www.mikekreidel.com/SaturnNatural.jpg Pretty cool huh?
  9. QUOTE (RushRevisited @ Nov 5 2004, 01:13 PM) QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Nov 5 2004, 12:58 PM) No, the 2" aren't cheap at all. The one in the pic is a TeleVue Nagler 9mm, about $300 on sale. It's called Schmidt-Cassegrain. This scope is still looked upon as one of the best astrophotography scopes on the market. With the 'Faststar' system you can attach a digital camera right to the front of the scope (on the front mirror). It's a revolutionary system. And the electronics and optics are world class. I love it! Excellent (Yes, I knew schmidt, not smith, typed without thinking hahah) - That is probably what I will look at for my next one.... If you don't have a 2" system on your Dobsonian, you should upgrade. It's really not that expensive and the rewards are so much worth it! The initial conversion is cheap but if you want an array of eyepieces thats where the money comes in. I only have 2-2" pieces for mine but I have 12- 1 1/4" for all my scopes.

I own a few very nice telescopes, one of which is my Celestron Ultima2000 8" computerized with all the goodies! I love it to death, just don't get to use it enough. Here is a photo of a Triple Eclipse on Jupiter, very rare indeed! http://www.mikekreidel.com/triplejupiter.jpg You took that shot???? NO......hell no. I wish I could get shots like that. This is from the Hubble.

  14. I might be the biggest fan on the planet. I watch it 5 times a day, everyday. Even though I've seen them all 30 times each! They are all classics but I like 'The Bro', 'The Pez', 'Soup Nazi', and 'The Assman' !
  15. One of my favs. Just a great all around movie. That Thing You Do
  16. That is so cool, thanks for sharing!! I was very impressed with the link at the bottom of the page, explaining every piece of lighting and sound gear used on this tour. Very cool stuff indeed.

  18. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Oct 5 2004, 12:54 PM) Well, I read the tourbook section, and saw this pic there in the "Signals" tourbook. Does that constitute cheating? Nope, that is the correct answer!!
  19. QUOTE (BSG @ Oct 5 2004, 12:17 PM) Hey c'mon now! I wanted a prize! LOL....
  20. Can anyone (except BSG) tell me where this pic was first printed? http://www.mikekreidel.com/neil_studio.jpg
  21. You mean, who was the opening band? Yikes, that's a tough one. I'm sure it wasn't the same band for the entire tour but I do remember seeing them in St. Louis, something like 3 times in that year! I was crazy, they kept coming back to play bigger and bigger venues. They were playing multi-nighters as well. I can't answer your question because I was really young then and I saw them with so many bands. I really don't know.
  22. Mine has to be Hold Your Fire as well. But Permanent Waves is a close second. I really think Time Stand Still, Mission and Prime Mover are three of the best tunes they ever wrote. Just an observation here but, has anyone ever noticed the 'old time' rush fans never would buy any recordings after about Moving Pictures? It was always the same reason "the new rush isn't the rush I grew up with". Well, I started listening to them around '76 and I love all the newer recordings. My feeling is they (almost) always have made a better cd than the one prior. Mike
