  1. Oh I haven’t spun that one in years. A-Punk and Oxford Comma are classics I do remember!
  2. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires Of The City Vampire Weekend - Contra
  3. I like to keep it next to your mis en scène, :p
  4. Still haven’t got around to MM or OHM yet, but after revisiting all of these records I have heard recently a bit of a rerank is in order: 1. BSSM (still tops) 2. BTW (just so pretty) 3. Californication (if it were mastered better it would be number 2) 4. ROTDC (they put all the weirder stuff on here rather than UL) 5. UL (nearly as good as the follow up, just a little more “stock” as Metallica would put it) 6. The Getaway (yes I really do love this one, even the production… John’s specific presence is missed though, nothing against Josh, it’s just different) 7. SA (Too much does too little for me, even with lots of good thrown in, and overall the vibe is much more clinical than any other Chili’s album)
  5. That’s probably true, but I also don’t really listen to much Dead/Allmans/Phish type stuff, so idk for sure.
  6. Of course that’s all just *my* criteria. Please use your own :)
  7. I’ve been going back and forth with our raison d’etre. On one hand they definitely have some of the most insane chemistry any band has ever had. On the other, they tended to use it as a means to achieve this like perfect, unblemished end, especially by the end of their career. They could play almost any song they’d ever done note for note perfect live as if the studio version had just been recorded live on the floor in one take. I think what I’m kinda getting at is bands that were a little more organic, especially in their live approach, and not so set on perfect reproductions.
  8. Idk, to me none of these really get at the thing I’m after. Police probably come closest, but they still don’t sound quite free enough. They feel more like every piece fits in its right place.
  9. I think I wanna add in Zeppelin to my list. I definitely see Yes as a contender. For me they’re a bit fickle though. When they’re on they’re totally doing exactly what I’m talking about, but when they’re just a little off I don’t get that vibe I’m trying to pinpoint. Like, I enjoy Tormato, but I really don’t hear a band on that record that sounds all tuned into the same energy.
  10. They’re my favorite from that scene. Badmotorfinger especially shows off their honestly kinda Rush-like sense of rhythm, something none of the other big 4 really have to my ears.
  11. What are some bands that you think have otherworldly chemistry? I’m calling it bands with alchemical powers. I don’t have a full list yet, but some ideas I have are RHCP (especially with John), KC (mainly from Larks’ onward), and Fugazi. I’m thinking like, bands where the music just flows in a kind of totally free way from each player, but also all of them consistently come together to make a powerful whole much greater than the sum of their parts.
  12. To me it’s always felt like they wanted to do something like a White Album, but in the wake of Superunknown’s crazy success, they were tired and fracturing. I do think it’s. Great record, but far less sure of itself than the previous two.
  13. Beach day and beach day prep (and sleeping to a few of these on the beach day bus) RHCP - Return Of The Dream Canteen oh… actually this is like, the best thing since BTW, just totally rad RHCP - The Getaway this has a home in my heart nonetheless Fugazi - Red Medicine This album sound more epic when half awake RHCP - By The Way Wanted something more peaceful to try to sleep to tho, lol Pearl Jam - Ten Screw it, I’m awake now, and the production on this record baffles me more and more as time goes on. And then I just put on a massive beach inspired playlist I made while I was there.
  14. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik Actually, Anthony Keidis is a fantastic lyricist…. Just an incredibly horny one, lol Chicano Batman - Notebook Fantasy New album of the week for me. Relaxed beach vibes.
  15. Thank you! Ugh I’m always forgetting to take your recs. I must remedy this soon!
  16. Yes I think so!! Even with Frusciante leaving and coming back again, it’s like he has to leave and recenter himself for a decade and then he’s got a whole new layer o himself to blend with the rest of them.
  17. So I’ve heard! I think I’ve heard Aeroplane here and there in places over time, and it’s cool. I dig it. I bet I’ll like the whole album, but that weird reputation it has with a lot of fans does make me wonder how much.
  18. The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie used to play on the radio all the time next to their more established hits when I was just getting into alt rock for the first time, so I know I like that one at least.
