  1. New Beatles doc coming from Peter Jackson “I’ll tell you, Howard. It’s great." McCartney said of the brand-new “Let It Be” documentary from director Peter Jackson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aCVA2DXMKM
  2. Maybe too loud for ASMR? Rivendell needs percussion. Play both videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G-zanqLD3M
  3. yeah i like them both and they both made the same amount of music that i like. two different styles in my eyes as a non-player. quite honestly, imo if they had not hooked up with either bono or sting i doubt we would be discussing them at all........ And vice versa. Actually, I think the Edge a little more important to U2's sound than Bono. But if we're talking great musical pairings, Andy and Sting are probably top 5. Andy and Sting don't get off the ground without Copeland. One of the special bands where every member is not only a unique talent int their own right, but an essential piece of the larger picture. As for U2, say what you want about Larry and Adam, I say they were the perfect fit for the band, but you could still find about a dozen contemporaries of theirs who would've done nearly as good of a job. They're both great, but I don't think either one is that unique in the grander scheme of things. I know re Copeland. I was talking specifically about Sting and Andy as a pair but I view Copeland as an equal third of The Police's sound. Most of these types of bands, bands that have a distinctive, infectious sound, where everyone clicks together so ridiculously, do not have interchangeable players. It doesn't matter if someone else can play as good as or better than a particular player in one of these bands, More often than not it comes down to a very lucky amalgam of influences, musical sensibilities, personalities, etc, that makes the band what it is. So Larry and Adam are really important to U2's sound and U2 would have been quite different without them (read not as good). Same goes for Copeland. The Police would not have been The Police without him.
  4. Family or flatmates getting on your nerves? Relax with some ASMR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX_HCO7hRnM

  6. Andy's sound was incredibly influential on 80s guitar. No denying that. But even he admits that sound is dated. Edge is quite different from Andy even though Andy's DNA is in his playing. Andy's a more intimate player while Edge developed a style with delay that allows a minimalist 3 piece to play stadiums convincingly. And, imo of course, the Edge's sound has stood the test of time much, much more than Andy's has.
  7. Forwarded to me: Half of us are going to come out of this quarantine as amazing cooks. The other half will come out with a drinking problem. I used to spin that toilet paper like I was on Wheel of Fortune. Now I turn it like I'm cracking a safe. I need to practice social-distancing from the refrigerator. Still haven't decided where to go for Easter ----- The Living Room or The Bedroom PSA: every few days try your jeans on just to make sure they fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom. Homeschooling is going well. 2 students suspended for fighting and 1 teacher fired for drinking on the job. I don't think anyone expected that when we changed the clocks we'd go from Standard Time to the Twilight Zone This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house, told my dog..... we laughed a lot. So, after this quarantine.....will the producers of My 600 Pound Life just find me or do I find them? Quarantine Day 5: Went to this restaurant called THE KITCHEN. You have to gather all the ingredients and make your own meal. I have no clue how this place is still in business. My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet. Day 5 of Homeschooling: One of these little monsters called in a bomb threat. I'm so excited --- it's time to take out the garbage. What should I wear? I hope the weather is good tomorrow for my trip to Puerto Backyarda. I'm getting tired of Los Livingroom. Classified Ad: Single man with toilet paper seeks woman with hand sanitizer for good clean fun. Day 6 of Homeschooling: My child just said "I hope I don't have the same teacher next year".... I'm offended.
  8. I Know I know that actresses name, but that movie was perfect for her....look, she even LOOKS like a witch... Shelley Duvall
  9. It's like a stream of consciousness pop culture hymn and, despite its run-time, is pretty accessible and maybe even commercial. It postures as a masterpiece coda of a great artist but what I'm seeing thematically is a combination of American Pie and Man on the Moon with Dylan's patented cryptic lyrics (which seems to me often have more meaning attributed to them than is actually there). The piano part reminds me of Bridge Over Troubled Water's gorgeous essence and the end themes of a thousand Tom Hanks movies. His vocal performance is vintage Dylan which is to say more like the talk-sing of a seasoned actor than a singer and that is not an insult. He is and always has been a brilliant vocalist. I'll probably listen to this again but a 17 minute song that's not particularly original is a bit self-indulgent even for a performer of Dylan's stature.
  10. I like all the "What's your favorite song?" threads posted on this forum.
  11. What would possess you to even ask? A demon, I guess. Know a good exorcist?
  12. Juliana Hatfield does a beautiful cover of Olivia Newton John's "A Little More Love." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkp-rtW-vp8
  13. An indie rock version of Physical from Juliana Hatfield. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfiMIK-x1uI

  15. That's funny. I thought this was Rush's most awkward era. :D-13: Sorry to keep hijacking but I'm starting to wonder if this is a gag photo or a photo shoot gone horribly wrong. Has anyone ever seen Geddy onstage in that outfit and hairdo? Especially that hairdo! Obligatory Presto content: I think Presto's production sound sucks but it has some pretty good songs on it. What Presto isn't: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PCkvCPvDXk Presto is just another example of Rush's tendency to seek out new sounds and styles that they could Rushify and their mileage varied in those efforts. There's a built-in potential for awkwardness for any artist who tries to evolve. Neil Young's Trans anyone? But I'll take awkwardness over stagnancy any day. I guess I'd say their wardrobe and hair style choices were fairly awkward from '82 to, I don't know, '92? And of course their '70s glam looks were some real howlers. They began looking more comfortable onstage when they started dressing more conventionally if more boringly from T4E onward (Alex's leather pants notwithstanding). I really dislike a lot of their fashion choices in the '80s but their '70s looks are just so cheesy I have to love them. Whenever they tried to look like rock and/or pop stars they just came off like regular Canadian guys playing dress up and man that is always awkward. lol.
  16. Meet Van Halen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X6e7uctAww
  17. You'll make it but keep safe and keep isolating. I sometimes wonder if any of the older fans have ever seen Rush play live in '74 but dang it man you could have attended Geddy's Bar Mitzvah!
  18. That's funny. I thought this was Rush's most awkward era. :D-13: Dig those platform shoes!
  19. Thrift store chic way before that was a thing. And "ahem" unintentionally.
  20. That's funny. I thought this was Rush's most awkward era. :D-13:
