  1. i'm forever bouncing between Making Movies and Love over Gold as my fav. both tremendous records. Mick
  2. thing is zappa was so prolific that i think everyone has different favs. i know people who love the early Mothers period best. That's probably my least fav era. i also am not fond of his classical ventures. ii think my fav band he had is the 73-76 one. so that's like Over-nite Sensation to One size fits all album wise. Mick
  3. Ok Zappa. i have decided to give you my 15 favs but ranked . now just to put this in perspective. he released about 60 albums JUST IN HIS LIFETIME. And i don't know how many more posthumously. i will include live albums in here. because every live album always had new material not on studio albums. and really all his live stuff had numerous studio overdubs anyway. with that in mind. and BTW i hope this helps budding fans who might be interested 1. Over-Nite Sensation 2. Zappa In New York (live) 3. Apostrophe 4. Shiek Yerbouti (semi live with Studio Elements) 5. Roxy & Elsewhere (live) 6. Zoot Allures 7. Tinseltown Rebellion (live) 8. You Are What You Is 9. Joe's Garage 10. One Size Fits All 11. You Can't Do that On Stage Anymore vol 1 (live) 12. You Can't Do that....Vol. 2 (live) 13. We're only In it For the Money 14. Sleep Dirt 15. Them or us. those are my fav 15. if any interests you and you feel hooked. there's plenty more out there but i feel ANY of these are good starts. Mick
  4. Judas Priest Invincible Shield (8/10) Is this my fav JP album? no. Do i think it's a little long and they left some fat on there? yes. However. this is still a remarkable record and i don't think i can be any prouder of one of my fav bands. i went in thinking there's no way they are besting Firepower. That album was like an adrenaline shot and it nearly winded me from start to finish. this album.....honestly none of it gives me that specific feeling. I know that sounds like a bash but it's not. This album while true not as uniformly strong to me......has it's own vibe and mood that helps it stand on it's own. and that is amazing for a 50 year band. and in defense of IS. to thoes fans who won't give newer JP a chance cause KK ain't involved or glenn isn't as involved for health reasons (and yes there are)........you guys are damn fools. These last 2 albums are as good as ANY prime KK era Priest and i stand by that. Mick
  5. i'm not saying anything's bad. but you know me. i'm not gonna rave over songs i think aren't quite on par. the album's a stronger 8 for me. That thrills me for JP Mick
  6. I played just the 2nd half last night and right now. and sorry IMO it would still make a weaker album on the whole. BUT i LOVE As God is My Witness, Escape From Reality, Giants In the Sky and the Lodger. Although i hate the way the Lodger just.....stops. it like they hit the stop button while recording and left it, lol. Now other songs do this but for some reason that sounds really clunky to me. I do not know whys i don't like a song like Trial By Fire. it's pretty Classic modern JP. but it bores me. Sons of Thunder is meh. Vicious Cycle is good but it ends just when i think "hey this is fun" wish it was a tad longer. Bottom line is i'm glad that first half is there. i think it bolsters and does raise the whole project. Having said that i like the 2nd half. Nothing BAD just very much less impactful is my verdict. Mick Mick
  7. their 90% combines with the other 10% of awesomeness they have and it creates an explosion of awesome!!!!! keep up i'm stupid, lol Mick
  8. those post maiden albums are great but.........ALL songs go as follow. Step 1: Wind sound effect, soft intro. Step 2: first verse Step 3: hook Step 4: Verse 2 Steep 5: Repeat hook Step 6: Guitar solo plus general band jam interlude Step 7: Guitar solo 2 Step 8. Repeat hook 2-3 times more step 9: Soft outro.....wind sound. Mostly EVERY SONG!!!!!!! Mick
  9. Judas Priest. i LOVE this band. it's funny they are my fav old school metal band(yes over Maiden even) but the whole middle 80's period Defenders of the faith though Ram it down i think stinks but the best JP is honestly better than 90% of YOUR fav metal band. it's a scientific fact. look it up, lol Mick
  10. well......they are overblown but in the best way one can be overblown. I've often called the metal Styx. Not because they are musically similar but because of how NUTS this band is. and it (mostly) WORKS. Mick
  11. funny how we hear things. Gates of hell was a straight banger glad you came around. For me because of some of some of the weaker middle tracks i too feel the fatigue just a bit. plus the first 6 songs to me are so good that the 2nd half has some ground to cover (i mean the 2nd half minus the bonus songs) and it doesn't QUITE live up but again the album closes with my fav song so i can forgive. But again don't take this as me raining on the lovefest. I LOVE this album.......i really do. Mick
  12. Iprefer the last 2 JP albums to the last 2 iron maidan albums. These last 2 JP albums are GREAT!!!!! They just rock so hard. as i said i think Firepower just a tad better all the way through. IS has a few low spots for me BUT i love this record. Similar BUT they are seperate vibes. Miick
  13. Judas Priest 1. Killing Machine 2. Screaming for Vengeance 3. Stained Class 4. Firepower 5. Painkiller 6 Sin After Sin 7 Angel of Retribution 8. British Steel 9 Roca Rolla 10. Invincible Shield 11. Sad Wings of Destiny then we get down to like the final bunch which to me is a mixed bag from eh to god Priest what happened? 12. Turbo 13. Defenders of the Faith 14 Point of Entry 15 Redeemer Of Souls 16. Jugulator 17. Demolition 18. Ram It Down 19. Nostradamus I think JP is a great band but i think after 82 it really is a grab bag of mid and awful UNTIL angel of Retribution. then a breif gap. THEN the last 2 have been great. The only big argument i get into is i don't really like Defenders of the Faith like....at all. i don't really like turbo much either. those 2 make a double album shit Sandwich. Also they are some that say KK and Glenn make up JP no band without them. I say they were great but they WERE on a lot of those shit sandwiches, lol.......so shut up. Mick
  14. Judas Priest-Invincible Shield (8/10) Gave my in depth review in the IS thread. I am blown away by the quality these guys are pumping out. I've read reviews both good and bad about this album. to me it's tremendous for a legacy band. now i prefer Firepower but this is no slouch. Mick
  15. I finally got around to this. i wasn't listening right off on purpose. i have to say i'mm glad i did this because the singles on the album sounded new to me again. so i actually think i had the right idea here, lol. as too the album itself. i've played it at least 5 times now. with headphones. reading lyrics taking it in. First things first this album reminded me of painkiller Smashed with Turbo. Some of the production just reminded me of Turbo but with less cringe. i noticed too the drumming on here is REALLY forward in the mix. and you can really hear the kick drum patterns on these songs. which BTW i loved being a huge fan of the drums. Halford sounds great maybe even stronger than on Firepower. although the last note on Giants In the Sky was kinda bum and i lol'ed.... sorry i did, lol As too the music. it's really good guys. I think Panic Attack and The Serpent And the King their best one two opening punch in a while. Actually the first six songs of this thing are back to back balls to the wall great. The Title track, Gates of Hell, Crown of Horns, Devil In Disguise (this one's just cool) I will be a little crital and say after Crown of Horns i have to pick and choose what i like cause the album does fall off a bit......for me. if it doesn't for you......great. As god as my Witness is good. Still don't like Trial by Fire (it was least fav single) Escape from reality is great. Sons Of Thunder.......eh it's fine. And the closer Giants. is actually my fav track. As for the bonus three I think switched out some of the main songs in the 2nd half for these. i loved all 3. In summary this is a great album. JP basically wins again. Now i think Firepower is a stronger album overall (Duck''s Segues chair) but i loved this album as well. Mick
  16. and now you got me going his merry band of snobby idiots does me in too. ok i'm being a little extra. but his whole gang give off such we know better vibes. Mick
