That's interesting...why would that be edited out apart from having said something he wasn't supposed to yet? I've kept meaning to check out the full interview, was the "December" date he gave for GUP the only time it was mentioned, or did he say something else?
-
Yep, now THAT'S an album that needs re-mixing. I knew the album was going to be in trouble when Nick Raskulinecz said in the Classic Rock Magazine Special Edition that he "mixed in the same day" as he recorded a song. I know there's deadlines with a project, but that's a BIG production 101 red flag You've GOT to give your ears time to rest between recording and mixing. Your ears get fatigued with too much noise, and if you hear it back, you should be shocked with how the results sound (in a bad way). You should say "what was I thinking, this is WAY too loud" I never listen to Clockwork Angels as I can't stand the way it sounds. To me, it's on par with the original mix of Vapor Trails with how bad it sounds, which considering this is now the last Rush studio album, is SUCH a shame it sounds like this
-
I'm not sure "Signals" particularly needs a re-mix IMO. Don't get me wrong, it'd be good to hear Alex a bit more prominent in the mix (which I think is the only area that Signals falls down), but by bringing up the guitars, do you loose the depth of the synth layers? It's a hard one. I'd definitely like to hear it as a comparison, but my 2015 Sean Magee Remaster will do me fine until it's released! I think you hit the nail on the head with the record label's knowledge!!!!
-
Looks like you were right @BanterFromTheCosmos, it IS a vinyl boxset to match the 1989-1996 from last year I've emailed the Backstage Store to ask who has remastered it, and if there are download codes. Fingers crossed they reply! Was the 1989-1996 boxset definitely Sean Magee's masters out of interest? I saw some scans of the sleeves from that boxset, and it said Bob Ludwig on Presto and RTB
-
Edit: I quoted your wrong reply. I meant to quote your post about more infinite delays with "Deluxe Editions" 😀 *********************************** Yes, I hadn't thought of that angle either. Us Rush fans know there's a series of albums with the "40th Anniversary" banner and should follow a pattern - each album now being called a "Deluxe Edition", I daresay it's easier for the label to kill if it doesn't reach a particular sales target. How many albums have been released as "Deluxe Editions" and just been one offs/a few and NOT covered an artist's total discography? I know quite a few have, but I can only think of Black Sabbath in this moment in time as an example! 😁 Yep, got to keep the money rolling in someway!!! They're probably waiting until the 50th Anniversaries of the 80's albums to release the rest of the sets, then the 60th for the 90s.... 😁😁 "Suhh, don't give them ideas..."

Rush: The Albums: 2002 - 2012 7-CD Box Set Coming this June
starscreamsrevenge replied to Holdyourfireal's topic in Rush
I hope this boxset gets officially announced soon - isn't it released next Friday 6th? If people had the full details, they'd be more likely to buy it (surprise surprise!!!) -
Very interesting information, thanks again @Digital82 I suppose without the "40th Anniversary" title, they can release them whenever they're ready/the label wants to without the date slipping further and further away from the actual 40th. So...if GUP isn't even being released until nearer the end of 2025, I guess that rules out a Power Windows set in 2026. I suspect it's too close together unfortunately 😕 Maybe they just want to release these sets every 2 years now regardless of the year? It's a shame the "40 Anniversary" title couldn't carry on, as it's actually a thread that could have carried on throughout the albums - the 40th Anniversary of the 90s decade starts in 2030 (EXTREMELY worryingly!!! )
-
Thanks for the reply. I NEVER receive notifications from the forum to my email address annoyingly, so this is the first time I'm seeing this sorry :) That's interesting information, thank you! So to my mind there's two release patterns they've got left for 2025. I don't suppose you can give us a little bit of extra hope by answering purely A or B to these scenarios please? A - The boxset will be released before September 2025 B - The boxset will be released before Christmas 2025 I realise it's getting slightly more into specifics, but just to get it narrowed down to a 3 month window is the most news we've had for over a year! Thanks for anything you can share
-
@Digital82 I get that release plans are secret, but surely after a year of saying this, could you not at least just tell us if it will be definitely released in 2025? Purely a "yes" or "no" here will satisfy me personally, the details are what press releases are for!!! :) :)
-
I'm starting to think GUP 40 isn't coming either :( :( As chance would have it, I'm spinning the Japanese standalone release of "Signals", and the OBI lists the release date as 31.5.23 I know I've mentioned before about the "41st Anniversary" releases due to Covid, but nearly two years since "Signals" was released, and we're not even hearing any rumblings that it's in the pipeline. Do we all agree that if GUP isn't released as a 40th or 41st set, then the series is done? Surely, they wouldn't restart it for "Power Windows" would they?? If so, why was GUP skipped over? It doesn't make sense if they do restart it for an unspecified album IMO

Rush: The Albums: 2002 - 2012 7-CD Box Set Coming this June
starscreamsrevenge replied to Holdyourfireal's topic in Rush
I mean, yes at first thought I'm thinking "cash-grab", but a thought just occurred to me - are these Sean Mcgee's Remasters on CD? If they are, I'd get this actually, as you can't buy his Remasters of the Atlantic era anywhere digitally (except for the 2015 vinyl releases Fingers crossed :) -
Rush 50 (Anniversary Super Deluxe) Listing Now on Apple Music
starscreamsrevenge replied to napoleonj's topic in Rush
Yep, I have 3 problems with this set: 1 - The price is too expensive for a 4-CD set. 2 - There's not enough unreleased content for that price to make it worthwhile. 3 - I personally think there's too many live songs and not enough studio songs. Granted, there still wouldn't be much unreleased stuff there, but if this is supposed to be "Chronicles II" in all but name, they should have stuck to that format personally. A big studio best of at half the price it is now...I'd have considered that. By the way @BanterFromTheCosmos, has Sean Mcgee remastered this set out of interest? -

Rush 50 (Anniversary Super Deluxe) Listing Now on Apple Music

What a good idea, I might have brought the R50 set myself as well :) Cue @Pig editing them into his "Permanent Waves 1980" Tour Compilation and we'd have all been in audio heaven!!! -
Sean Magee 2015 remasters - buying help
starscreamsrevenge replied to starscreamsrevenge's topic in Rush
That's useful information, thanks for that :) I didn't take much interest in the recent Atlantic vinyl boxset, as I thought you'd be able to buy Magee's 2015 masters digitally like the Mercury albums. Oh well these things are done to test us aren't they?!!! :) -
Sean Magee 2015 remasters - buying help
starscreamsrevenge replied to starscreamsrevenge's topic in Rush
Hi, Thanks for the reply, I was waiting to see if anyone else chimed in with any responses (2 sources are better than 1 etc! :)) I'll respond below your answers: 1 - AFAIK, yes, Sean's the only engineer involved. Anything with a 2015 date should be good to go. If another person is credited, it might just be a holdover from the original liner notes. To segue into your second question, the downloads in those links are all Magee's remasters. Hopefully the 40th CDs are going to be an ongoing project, but if "Grace" doesn't get announced by June, I think I know what I'll be buying after these! :) I emailed that High Res Audio company to see if they had a definitive credit for the mastering, and they just said what is listed is the info that the record company gives them. Being as their sales listings say "40th 2015 Remaster", I think that's as close as we're going to get confirmation wise unfortunately :( I think I'll buy "Power Windows" as a test to see how it sounds. I've ripped the 40th CDs to my Eversolo streamer, so hopefully if it has a similar sort of depth to those, that's good enough for me (until 2026 for the CD hopefully! :)) 3 - He remastered everything with the exception of Vapor Trails, Clockwork Angels, and the post-1989 live albums. Some sites still have a remaster of the original mix of VT done by Andy VanDette (same guy behind the Sectors and Studio Albums sets). It still suffers from lots of compression, but it's definitely an improvement over the nasty sounding CD. I actually enjoy this one more than the remix tbh! https://us.7digital.com/artist/rush/release/vapor-trails-4046482 I wonder why they got Sean to remaster "Snakes & Arrows" but left off "Vapor Trails" and "Clockwork Angels" from the reunion era? Now the unfortunate thing is that there's currently no legal way to buy the 2015 Atlantic-era remasters digitally; the hi-res versions were only included with the vinyl reissues via download codes. The versions available right now are Andy VanDette's remasters from the Studio Albums box. That is unfortunate, as I was hoping to listen to Sean's "Presto" and "Roll The Bones" before 2030 and 2032 if the current release pattern keeps up! :) It's a bit pointless buying the vinyls just for some download codes IMO. If anyone knows how to digitally buy the 2015 versions of "Presto" through to "Test For Echo", do chime in :) Having to wait until 2037 for a CD seems a little ridiculous!!! :) :) At that rate, they'll need remastering again!! Three 40th anniversary editions are advertised as having the 2015 remasters on the CDs, but are actually compressed variations of them; 2112, MP, and Signals. Signals was somehow mastered at the wrong speed and is higher pitched than all other versions! How'd such an obvious and significant error slip by QA unnoticed?! There's no way to tell if Sean had any involvement with the CDs, so it's possible someone else needlessly messed with his work. I'm worried that they'll do it yet again once we get to Grace Under Pressure 40. Hopefully it's released on CD unchanged, though I'm not holding my breath. If there is compression on 2112, MP and Signals, it is an EXTREMELY low amount. Everything I've ripped on my Eversolo sounds remarkably consistent sound-wise between the 6 albums. I wish they'd either release these 2015 Remasters on CD all in one go so we could buy them when we want instead of the 40/41st anniversary of said album, or better still, let us know they are in fact continuing with Grace, and will do until the series is complete. I'm waiting until June latest for the Grace 40 CD announcement personally. If that is skipped, I guess the series will be finished, as why would they re-start it with Power Windows? It is a shame if it is, but at least they are available digitally up until "Hold Your Fire", so that is something I suppose :) -
Hi everyone, I LOVE the 40th anniversary CD sets by Sean Magee, I think they have as much depth as the original vinyls. This is great as it means I don't have to worry about overplay ha ha!! I think while the Grace Under Pressure 40th set is up in the air, I might try and buy a few of the later albums digitally to save waiting until 2028 or later for those albums to be released as 40th CD sets. I've got a few questions which I hope someone can answer: 1 - Is Sean Magee the only engineer involved in the 2015 remasters? So if a sales listing has someone else mentioned as mastering the album, that won't be a 2015 remaster, is that correct? Is it a good rule of thumb to say that if a listing has a release date or a copyright date of 2015, it will be by Sean Magee? 2 - Can someone tell me if these sales listings are Sean's remasters or not please?: https://www.highresaudio.com/en/album/view/9n57tm/rush-power-windows-40th-anniversary-remaster-2015 https://www.highresaudio.com/en/album/view/22tvyg/rush-hold-your-fire-40th-anniversary-remaster-2015 https://www.hdtracks.com/#/album/5df32fde9c9028d5e6b9745e On the Power Windows link it mentions Bob Ludwig as mastering it, but I thought he only did the 1997 CD remasters? 3 - Has Sean remastered everything in the Discography out of interest? I've seen he's remastered up until Test For Echo, but I'm not sure about the last 3 albums? Thanks for any help anyone can provide :)

Just to derail the thread slightly, did you ever buy the "Signals" standalone 40th CD from Japan @ytserush?
-
This also seems like a good thread to check about the 2015 remasters without lots of pages in between! :) https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/rush-2015-vinyl-remasters-vs-all-the-rest.691460/ For what it's worth, I LOVE the 2015 remasters on CD (which is what the 40th boxsets all use). To me they're like having the original vinyls on CD, the depth is so good! I'd heartily recommend buying them on CD.
-
I've only got "Permanent Waves" as a 200 Gram Remaster on vinyl. In my opinion with my Bowes and Wilkins monitors, the remaster sounds compressed and lacks overall dynamics and depth compared to the original pressing. It was only when I played the original 1980 pressing straight after that I said "wow, that sounds better!!" So if you've got everything as original pressings, I would personally leave it, but this is where we're all different :) Hope that helps

Rush 50 (Anniversary Super Deluxe) Listing Now on Apple Music
starscreamsrevenge replied to napoleonj's topic in Rush
Hi everyone, Thanks @BanterFromTheCosmos keeping us all updated on this set, I've appreciated your updates :) So, it seems with the "live archive" quote from the article, maybe the songs that we thought were studio songs are actually unreleased live songs and the details are being held back until the official announcement? Just an idea. I think we'll just have to wait and see, but hopefully it won't be too much longer now that that Classic Rock article is out there. IF every song is now live, could the "unlabelled" songs without the locations and dates be a song from the respective album tour that no one has? So we could have: Superconductor - from the Presto Tour Dreamline - from the Roll The Bones Tour Stick It Out - from the Counterparts Tour Whisper it....could Subdivisions be from the Signals Tour, either from a Soundboard they do have in their possession or a good audience recording like Wembley '83??? If that quote on the last page from Jag when he said there was "nothing that met the bands quality approval" for a full release, maybe they've realised they should have put something out there for Signals 40, so they're putting a song on this set to say "sorry", We'll see I guess!!! :) -
I'm happy to be proven wrong if an announcement comes in September for a release around Christmas time, but I think the pattern now is about April time in the 41st year (which is what Moving Pictures and the Signals sets have been): Moving Pictures 40th - Released on April 15th 2022 Signals 40th - Released on April 28th 2023 I suppose it's better to be different! :)

VERY sad news indeed. Here is Geddy's and Alex' reactions from the Rush Is A Band site: https://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2024/06/29/6133/Alex-Lifeson-comments-on-the-passing-of-former-Rush-producer-Peter-Collins I think Peter Collins has actually produced some of my favourite albums by other artistes like: Empty Rooms re-recorded single - Gary Moore Out In The Fields single - Gary Moore Operation: Mindcrime - Queensrÿche Hey Stoopid - Alice Cooper (also engineered by Paul Northfield) Crossroad - Bon Jovi These Days - Bon Jovi Flying Colors - Flying Colors Ironically, aside from Side One of Power Windows and Animate from Counterparts, I've always been 50/50 on Peter Collins' Rush work. Sonically, yes they're very good, but some of the songs sound a bit "samey" IMO. RIP Peter Collins, you will be missed ********************************************************************************************** I don't want to derail the thread too much as obviously this is rightly about Peter Collins, but when Terry leaves this earth....I'll be DEVASTATED that day. More for the thing of "what could have been?" at any point after 1982 if they'd have decided to have worked together again. I wonder why they gave Peter another go around, and never Terry. What happened there???
-
Obviously, Digital82 knows something we don't, he's doing his best to tell us "this is happening", we just need to read between the lines!! :) My personal prediction? I think these 40th sets will continue until at least Presto so that all of the 80's albums are covered. MAYBE the 90's albums come next, because from 2030, technically anything from that decade is 40 years old. That's WAY down the track though!!! Just think, we'll have all these fun and games in 12 months to work out when the Power Windows 40th set is being released ha ha ha!!!! :) :) :)
-
I think I may have cracked it.... :) I've been concerned too about the clash of a GUP set and an R50 set both potentially coming out this year. However Although the album boxsets are labelled as "40th Anniversary" sets, both the Moving Pictures and Signals sets were actually released on...the 41st anniversary! Moving Pictures 40th - Released on April 15th 2022 Signals 40th - Released on April 28th 2023 So...it seems we might be waiting even LONGER for the GUP set unfortunately!!! :( April 2025 it is then??? I suppose they can release an R50 set in time for Christmas, which will be cool. Slightly off topic, would that R50 set include the 2015 remasters on CD of Rush, Fly By Night & Caress Of Steel being as these wearn't released as 40th boxsets at the time do we think?
