  1. Respectfully disagree with this. Got to be in my top 50. Very good song.
  2. Lessons is from 2112 which means its in the top 100. Not certain where so no big disagreement. Red Tide - well its Presto which guarantees it being in the top 100. Where? Not certain so no big disagreement. Marathon I used to rank very highly. At one time it likely would have been a top 25 song for me but has fallen some. Almost certainly still in my top 75 though. Perhaps top 50. So I would have it a bit higher than you do. Lock & Key is likely a top 50 song for me so I have it higher than you do. No doubt there. The place I would most disagree with you is Working Them Angeles. For me its a top 20 song. Looking forward to the next batch.
  3. Wow - got a loot to chew on here. Mystic Rythms would likely be a top 50 song for me so I clearly rank it higher than you do. The Pass is somewhere in my top 100 - not totally certain where so, although I would have it higher than you, no major disagreement. Lock & Key is likely another top 50 song, so again I have it higher than you. Losing It is likely somewhere in my top 100. Not certain where so no significant disagreement. Anthem - I will look past the Rand inspired junk (I am actually very left wing) and say the song is somewhere in my top 75. Notwithstanding the Rand message, I enjoy the song. A bit higher than you. Hand Over Fist - its Presto so the results in it being someplace in my top 100. Main Monkey Business - its in my top 100. The second song on S & A to catch fire with me. Open Secrets would be someplace in my top 100 (its HYF so thats a given) so not any huge difference with you. Wish Them Well is decent but nothing special - I would rank it a bit lower. Likely out of my top 100. Perhaps not by a lot though. War Paint - more Presto, so that means its another top 100 song for me.
  4. I find Different Strings to be an odd song in a way. Its not terrible but its not very good either. Its a song that really could move around based on the mood I am in so I guess 100 is not unreasonable. Hard song to ranks for me. The Fountain of Lamneth - sigh. For many years my bottom 4 songs were Dog Years, Virtuality, The Fountain of Lamneth & The Necromancer. Followed by all of VT. Over about the last year or so this song ha snuck up some. Its passed The Necromancer and VT. Might have even passed a few other songs. So its likely not in my bottom 20 anymore but not much beyond it. So clearly I would rank it much lower than you. BTW - the reason it started to move was I watch Rocky Kunar of the Rush tribute group "Mood Lifters" sing it and her and the Mood Lifters gave me a better appreciation of the song. But it is slowly moving up. Bravado - would be out of my top 100. So I would have it lower than you do. We Hold On - its in my top 100. Where exactly I have not figured to. Not in my top 20 though. I suspect I might have it higher than you rank it. Tears - its from 2112 so that means its in my top 100. Where? Not certain. Again, possible I would have it higher than you do - but not top 20. Looking forward to the next batch of rankings.
  5. Hmmm, for me this is in my top 100. But where I can't really say. The very top and the very bottom of my list I basically know. I can roughly ay hat in my top 100 and what would fall out of my top 100. Roughly mind you. But where exactly everything that s between about 20 and 100 is, well that hard for me to say. Also I basically know the bottom 20 of my list but between that point and 100 - very hard for me to exactly list the songs. Very impressed by you folks with your lists and you ability to rank all the songs. Dreading what may be coming up but looking forward to the explanation.
  6. Worked from home part of the day today (took the rest off to deal with a few things). So that meant it was time to open the moving box's and whatever came out at random would get listened to, First out: Carole King - Tapestry This album came out when I was 5 years old (1971) and my sister had it and played it a ton (she liked the soft rock singer / songwriters of that era) so I was exposed to it in my youth. In the early 90's I picked the album up at a used record store - the price sticker of $1 is still on it from the store. Not my taste in music. Good thing I was working and drinking some tea. If I had not been it might have put me to sleep. Feels like elevator music / music I might be stuck listing to while on hold waiting for a call center to take my call. Next out of the box: Uriah Heep - Salisbury Another record I got at a used record store in the early 90's. Best songs are "Lady In Black" and , to a lesser extent, the 16 minute title track. Decent but certainly feels like its late 60's early 70's rock. Next out of the box: Uriah Heep - Look At Yourself Another early 90's used record store pick up. The title track is the best song followed by the 10+ minute long July Morning. Better than Salisbury. Last out of the box: Uriah Heep - Innocent Victum Yet another early 90's used record store pick up. It came out in 1977 and sounds like it. Ok album but nothing I am wild about. Side 2 is better than side 1. Guess todays was a 1970's music day. For better or worse.
  7. Carve Away The Stone is a decent song IMO. Likely the 2nd best song on T4E - only Resist is better IMO. So the ranking is about right (T4E has just not aged well with me). Perhaps it might crack my top 100. Maybe if I am in a good mood. I have not really thought it through that much. So basically no real disagreement. Vapor Trails should be much lower, again (at the risk of pounding on a dead horse) I am not a fan of the album. The mix was terrible. I get a headache trying to listen to it. The remix does not give me a headache but it just reveals how weak the music is. Virtuality is the second worst Rush song IMO. Only Dog Year is worse. Obviously I rank it much lower than you do. Chain Lightning I would rank higher. How much I have not figured out but it would be in my top 100. Before and After is from their first album. Ok song but nothing more than that. Lower for me. looking forward to the top 100!!
  8. Decent song but nothing I am wild about. No major argument here. Note - I would have Halo Effect above it. IMO Halo Effect is a more enjoyable song.
  9. My reaction as well if it is what I am afraid it might be.
  10. Holy spit - if that means what I think it means. That will be an even bigger shock than Red Barchetta being on the low side of 100. O - my. Better make certain I take my high blood pressure medication (LOL).
  11. WOW!!!! That loud thud you just heard was the sound of my jaw hitting the floor. Holy spit. Ok , calm down. Take this one at a time. Show Don't Tell is from Presto so that means it will be in my top 100 - not a big difference from your ranking although where in my top 100 - I have no idea. Basically all of Presto, HYF & Power Windows will be top 100 songs. Neil's song writing was awesome through those 3 albums. Where's My Thing - lower for me. Chemistry - I would agree with you, its not that good. I guess the ranking is on the correct side of 100. Perhaps a bit lower IMO. Red Barchetta was, once upon a time a very, very good song. Like really good. But it has risen for me over the years. It now flip flops with a song to be named latter, alternating based on my mood at either #5 or #6 on my list. Wow - well, don't worry I will drop a few bombs that will shock you as these lists progress. Available Light - Its Presto so that means its in my top 100. Where I am not certain. But I would have it higher than you. Looking forward to the next batch. I have been expecting a shock at some point in these lists and you certainly delivered by far the biggest one to date. Not even close. Just wow.
  12. This may shock you, but not only will you not get any hate, but you won't even get significant disagreement from me. What Your Doing - about right. I might even have it a bit lower. Digital Man is an odd song for me. I want to like it more but just can't. I think you have it on the correct side of 100. For me its just there. Not terrible but nothing i go wild for either. Feels about right for me. Nobody's Hero I would have a bit higher (so ok, you get a little disagreement). It likely cracks my top 100 but likely not be a ton. For me CP really starts with this song. The material before it I don't care for. After it its a very good album. Need Some Love - nothing special there. I actually might have it a bit lower. Madrigal is a hard song for me to rank. Some days it in my top 100, some days it might be even lower than this. I actually know somebody who has told me its her favorite Rush song - and she is a long time Rush fan (ever since her older brother took her when she was 10 years old to see Rush on the 2112 tour). I guess I don't have a major disagreement with this ranking. Really depend on my mood .
  13. Well, you have this at 108 which is not terrible (IMO). I would rank it higher - someplace in the top 100. Where exactly I have not worked out however. But I do like this song. It was the second song (of many) on the album that made me go "Wow! Thats darn good."
  14. If the list is about to get juicer its botha sign that we are getting into harder picks (for you) and that we may be getting some real shocks coming up. IMO I rank this song in the top 100 so not a huge difference from you, but somewhat of one. As for the album, you clearly don't like it as much as I do. So far you have ranked 5 songs (A & S, Working Them Angeles, The Larger Bowl, Hope and The Way The Wind Blows) that I would put in my top 100. Plus Spindrift likely would be in my top 100. The again, I have some songs that will fall out of the top 100 that are going to shock you. I guess ones treasure is another trash. Looking forward to the next post.
  15. I agree that Virtuality is dated but even way back when I did not care for it. Its near the bottom of the barrel for me. Only Dog Years is worse. No real disagreement with Time & Motion. Hope - good comment. Make that very good comments. For me though its in my top 100. I guess I like it slightly more than even you do. Armor & Sword is another top 100 song for me so again Would rank it higher than you do. Roll The Bones I would likely rank a bit lower. It starts ok but then you get the rap. Like you, I give them credit for trying it - I just dislike rap. So for me that sort of kills the song. Pity since it has some potential. Looking forward to the next songs.
  16. No huge disagreement over The Color of Right. IMO you have it on the right side of 100. Its ok but nothing I am wild about. Same with Ghost of a Chance. BU2B2 I would rank much lower however. The fact that you rank it that high is a head scratcher for me. Mystic Rhythms is a head scratcher for me. Its Power Windows so that means its in my top 100. The Pass. Interesting comments about the lyrics. I find the music more interesting than the lyrics, but those are ok. I would not be as harsh as you are. For me its a top 100 song. But I am not as wild about it as some are. Next batch please.
  17. ok, all this talk about Survivor recently got me curious so: Survivor - Survivor Perhaps not the best album to start with but I guess it was their first so thats a logical starting place. What did I think? Well, the singer sounds a lot like Steve Perry of Journey (a good thing in my book). The music and lyrics, well, they sound very late 1970's - which makes sense since the album came out in 1979. Overall, the songs just sort of all sounded the same. Not terrible but not awesome either. Just all the same and kind of run of the mill. Will try to work in a few more albums when I can.
  18. This is an interesting batch of songs. I agree with many of the points you make about Dog Years (which I have at the very bottom of the barrel). I would mention however that the story I have heard was that Neil was dealing with a massive hang over when he wrote the lyrics. If it was the 1970's and he was a young guy I would be more forgiving. But he was what, in his 40's? He should have been mature enough to realize that you normally don't do your best when hung over. Plus Geddy and Alex should have realized it and put the brakes on the song. Instead they all let the train wreck plow ahead. It's not just that its Neil but its also that the group should have stopped the song but did not that causes me to really scratch my head at some terrible lyrics. In other words, they get negative extra credit for being mature enough to realize it was awful (or at least they should have realized it) ad instead went ahead with it. Bravado has not aged well but its still likely in my top 100. Good lyrics though. I expect you will take some hate over your placing The Garden at 118 and Halo Effect at 117. But not from me. I agree they are close and I would slightly rank Halo Effect over The Garden. The Garden is however a wonderful way to close the album and their career. When I heard them play it live on the CA tour I knew it was good-by. For me it was - I did not see them on the R40 your. Perhaps if they had played at SPAC I would have seen them but they did not. Basically agree with these rankings. Might rank them a bit higher however. But I expect some will disagree with ranking them the way you have. The real head scratcher here is Presto. For me its a top 20 song. Yes - top 20. Thats not a typo.
  19. Totem - no major disagreement. Actually, I might rank it slightly lower but basically I agree with you. Territories - I would rank higher. Its Power Windows, so that means its in the top 100 for me. Cut To The Chase - basically makes sense. Sounds about right. Alien Shore - no way. Must respectfully disagree. Top 100 song for me. Red Lenses - about right. In fact, I might ave it a tiny bit lower but no significant disagreement. So, I agree with you on 3 out of 5. Thanks for sharing, it really has to be tough to pick whats at 120 and whats at 119. Looking forward to the next batch.
  20. I would likely have Caravan much lower. Keep in mind that I find CA almost unlistenable up to Halo Effect. Then it takes off. But before that song I sort of have to struggle to listen to it and that absolutely applies to this song. Double Agent - no drastic difference with you on this. Making Memories would likely crack my top 100 so I would have it somewhat higher than you. Rivendell definatly cracks my top 100 as does Twilight Zone.
  21. What??? The Twilight Zone at 125??? Must respectfully disagree. For me its in the top 100. The Big Wheel & Face Up - no significant disagreement. Same with I Think I'm Going Bald. Everyday Glory at 121? How do you rank the best song (not by a lot, but it is the best) from CP at 121? I must respectfully disagree there. Easy top 100. Hey, I agreed with you on 3 of the 5. But the 2 that I did not agree with you on are real head scratchers to me. Looking forward to the next batch.
  22. I would actually rank this song lower. Its very forgettable for me. As for the album, I would rank this song below "The Big Wheel" and likely several other songs you have already ranked.
  23. Hmm, this will likely not be a shock but I will disagree with you on this one. For me its in the top 100. All of the songs off this album would be though. In terms of lyrics, Neil was on fire during the Power Windows / HYF / Presto era. Not a bad song from those 3 albums.
  24. I went with: 2112 Power Windows Different Sages Rush in Rio If live albums were not included my vote would be: 2112 Power Windows Counterparts S & A
  25. That was awesome! Wish we had the entire show but still - what we have that somebody was wise enough to film and preserve - wow!! I will take it & count myself lucky. It really helps to show just how awesome Rush was live back in their early prime. I did not get to see them live until the Presto tour. Makes me envious of those who were able to see them back then. One nice thing (although it is a 2 aged sword) nobody is holding up a cell phone!! Yes, with those we get a lot of concert footage captured but they are so obnoxious (IMO). Nice to see a concert where everybody is enjoying the band and capturing it in their heads. Let others film the show. Thanks for posting this.
