  1. QUOTE (Maples Oaks and Porcupine Trees @ Aug 8 2010, 04:59 PM) PT's Recordings is being re-released this fall: http://www.burningshed.com/store/porcupine...oduct/169/2268/ And Steven Wilson's Insurgentes (2 disc DVD - Documentary) will also be released this fall: http://www.swhq.co.uk/ Did anyone pre-order these yet?
  2. QUOTE (thelocator @ Aug 15 2010, 04:12 PM) I'm F'n staring at this list for like four minutes without even coming close to a final decision...I dub this the task -an impossible one. I would choose Signify possibly if you would allow me the bonus CD - Insignificance. Might even settle on Fear of a Blank Planet, if I could tack on the Nil Recurring EP. But, fact of the matter is that these guys have been might darn CONSISTENT ever since the Signify era...All the albums have been a well-balanced assortment of all kinds of awesome selections... I truly can't pick one. Like I said! Try this one: http://www.burningshed.com/store/porcupine...oduct/169/2286/
  3. Oz Tents' Tight Spin has a nice flow. It reminds me of of a cross between Tangerine Dream's Risky Business and Liquid Tension Experiment's Osmosis. (Or at least the first 1/2 does. Then it kicks into a funky electronica groove that is total fun!) And the flamenco guitar around 7:00 has a nice jazz fusion/Al DiMeola feel. This song has so many layers. Incredible!
  4. QUOTE (tangy @ Aug 13 2010, 08:26 PM) Between The Buried and me. another favorite of mine who have been around for years but still play is Ozric Tentacles. try this for starters: pixel dream A disc that continues to blow me away is Animals As Leaders. If you are into instrumental guitar check them out. Tosin may be the next Steve Vai IMO. Mastodon. Tangy, Thanks for the heads up on Ozric Tentacles! Great stuff! (Note: I can't believe how many prog bands there are out there!)
  5. QUOTE (The Owl @ Aug 15 2010, 11:43 AM) Disappear is on Recordings, that will be reissued later this month, but as far as the extended version..... no clue Owl, We have been referring to the extended version. IIRC, it won't be on the reissue. But I am picking it up anyway!
  6. Addendum: If you want a nice historical and cross-sectional listen of their tunes, check out the new live DVD: Anesthetize Live in Tilburg, or the CD counterpart Live in Atlanta.
  7. Advanced apologies to Sully Sue, but The Sky Moves Sideways is their best album! BTW: Anything by PT is great to listen to. It's hard to choose!
  8. Took my truck to the car wash and gave it a bath. We have raspberries in our yard, and the birds love 'em. So much so that when they're done, they crap all over my truck. Raspberry season is over, so I think they finally got it out of their system. It's nice to drive around town and not be embarrassed by all the blobs on the rig.

Tangy, Are these out of print? Any links to where they might be available? I am not sure, i guess if they are demos they never were released officially? Take a look around and if you can't find them get back to me and we can work something out. Do you want just that song or the whole thing? I don't download all that much music and some others here may be able to point you in the right direction. I was given my copy ( as MP3 files ) and did not download it. Okay! Thanks! So far I'm just looking for the extended version of Disappear. What else is on the demos? Tracklist?
  10. Anathema's Hindsight album is enjoyable. I have yet to sit down and listen to Transatlantic and Spock's Beard. However, I've listened to "?" by Neil Morse and was impressed. "Solid as the Sun" has some outstanding guitar riffs on it. Of particular note is Yellow Matter Custard the Beatles Super-Prog-Tribute-Band featuring Morse, Mike Portnoy, Matt Bisonnette and Paul Gilbert. While My Guitar Gently Weeps smokes! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2...56522504472418#

  12. The reverb on the power chord in 2112 during Soliloquy @ 16:55+! Magnificent!

  15. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 23 2010, 02:22 AM) QUOTE (sullysue @ Jul 23 2010, 12:31 AM) Here is an incredible point of view from SW concerning the de-valuating of music quality in the MP3 age: http://emusician.com/interviews/in_the_mix...pression_blues/ By all accounts, I am a demon in his eyes. I listen to my music via my iPod Nano or through my ear buds plugged into my computer. What he doesn't account for is that a lot of us cannot afford anything beyond these denigrated conveniences that are the only way we are allowed to enjoy the music he and others put out. If I didn't listen on my iPod, I wouldn't have the opportunity to listen, other than in my car. I am fortunate enough to have a high-grade system in my minivan, as strange as that might sound. But, I'm not about to spend my life in said van for the benefit of hearing music at its highest level of quality. I also can't afford a nice home stereo. I have a crappy little thing that won't even play every CD I have, it's so shitty. That's real life, pal. Give a guy/girl a break and think outside your bubble. Some of us have only limited means by which we can listen to the music you make. Stop being a snob, Steven Wilson. Be grateful that you have the fans you do. This subject pisses me off, you guys. If I had tons of money, I would have a top-of-the-line stereo system. I DON'T WANT to listen to music on my iPod. It's all I have. I understand his point of the lower level of quality, but it is what it is. And, for some of us, it's all we've got. Of course he is a sound snob. He has won many awards for his abilities in mixing. The fact is as well, he is right about digital music being inferior. I have a hard time listening to anything below 256kps. I totally get annoyed with the chirpiness of the high end. One of the few points of divergence of opinion between myself and Mr. Wilson. I enjoy listening to digital music and the convenience of it. I grew up with vinyl and prefer not to listen to it anymore. I don't care for the pops, hisses and skips on records. I went through a bad batch of new records as a kid that was really disappointing. I went through 3 or 4 brand new copies of Led Zep IV (Zoso) that skipped several times through Black Dog. Extremely annoying. By contrast, I've never had a single problem with CDs, DVDs or Blu Ray (unless they were rentals). I'm never going back to vinyl. That said, I respect Wilson's views and can appreciate his thoughts on art vs. pop music on an iPod. It's a lot more fun to listen to your favorite band and ponder a large gatefold album rather than the tiny CD paperwork. It's also imporant to appreciate what one purchases and listens to, along with enjoying the artwork. But frankly, I have no complaints and have enjoyed multiple hours listening to all the music I have downloaded or purchased on CD. Addendum: I might feel different if I was a professional musician whose music was pirated, criticized and ignored in a few days . . . (i.e. "Dark matter flowing out on to a tape Is only as loud as the silence it breaks Most things decay in a matter of days The product is sold the memory fades")
  16. QUOTE (tangy @ Jul 16 2010, 08:23 AM) lets bump this rascal back to the first page where it belongs. PT = Working on it!
  17. QUOTE (sullysue @ Jul 14 2010, 07:25 PM) ..and I suppose thus is born the on-going debate among PT fans: The validity of The Incident as being among their best work. I don't worry about opinions, obviously. I hold The Incident in the top three of my favorite albums of all time. But, I do respect the point of view of those who don't. You know... the whole assholes and opinions thing...
