You don't add the $2 to the $27, you take it off, making $25.

 

The three friends paid $27 but should only have paid $25. The other $2 is in the bellhop's pocket.

 

$25 is with the hotel

$3 back with the friends

$2 in the Bellhop's pocket.

 

=$30
