Personalized RUSH playlists

Been awhile since I last visited, but Rush never seems to go away, right?

I'm sure we all have different listening styles nowadays. Some might play an album or three start to finish, some mix just the 80's synth stuff, some mix the Rush randomly with all the rest of their musicses....

I like playlists. Different songs for different moods. Here's a few of mine, but I have many more. The title of the playlist is important, of course, so you can dial into the RUSH that is needed for the moment:

Do you have any you'd like to share?

Thanks for sharing! I like seeing different Rush playlists, though for myself I seem to usually just hit 'shuffle songs' on my ipod and everything churns up randomly, which I like. Or some days I have enough time to listen to an entire album, so I'll literally roll some dice which designates which album I'll listent to. Doing this has given me new appreciation for Roll the Bones!

My Rush-loving brother is big into playlists and making mix cds (yes, still cds!), and some years back he made a mix Rush one, which I'll share here:

Rush - Making Memories

01 Before and After

02 The Analog Kid

03 Beneath, Between, and Behind

04 A Farewell to Kings

05 A Passage to Bangkok

06 Roll the Bones (live)

07 Manhattan Project

08 Leave That Thing Alone

09 The Pass (live)

10 Vital Signs

11 Vapor Trail

12 La Villa Strangiato

13 Red Sector A

14 Circumstances

15 In the End

BTW, when I saw your playlist titled 'soapbox', my first thought was 'Second Nature'!

Also, a little while back I was inspired to make up a random Rush playlist, using a random generator. I wanted to keep it cd-length, and this is what came up:

01. Lakeside Park - 4:08

02. The Analog Kid - 4:46

03. Ghost of a Chance - 5:19

04. The Larger Bowl - 4:07

05. Vital Signs - 4:43

06. Before and After - 5:34

07. Faithless - 5:31

08. Spindrift - 5:24

09. In the Mood - 3:34

10. The Garden - 6:59

11. Kid Gloves - 4:18

12. The Body Electric - 5:00

13. Emotion Detector - 5:10

14. Tom Sawyer - 4:33

15. Madrigal - 2:35

16. The Camera Eye - 10:56

80:37

Not too shabby! But then, there's so much good Rush music that it'd be hard to make up a random list like this and not be happy with the results!

Oh, and another idea I had: having a playlist encompassing my favourite 'b-sides', aka songs that haven't been played live, mostly.

In no particular order:

-Take a Friend

-Here Again

-The Necromancer

-Lessons

-Tears

-Different Strings

-Vital Signs

-Chemistry

-Afterimage

-Emotion Detector

-Available Light

-Scars

-The Big Wheel

-Bet Your Life

-Cut to the Chase

-Everyday Glory

-Totem

-How It Is

-Freeze

-Good News First

-Wish Them Well

Whew! That's some awesomeness to my ears!

Rush Songs to set off Fireworks too!

I get fireworks from my Aunt and Uncle every year to set off at my cabin for my family to watch, and I have for a long time contemplated playing music along with them, as it would be a great way to force people to indulge in my tastes. However I never have because A: I don't have any powerful speakers that could match the bang of the fireworks B: I would not want those speakers damaged, so I would be fearful if a firework would fall over (one of mine from way back killed a Barbecue and nearly got another aunt), C: I would feel like I am forcing people to listen to my music due to the delay between lighting them (including the painful process of finding the wick), and D: the timing of the shots would be terrible. Anyway, I still contemplate doing it every year, and if I ever will, I would likely include some of these songs (along with some Oingo Boingo and Owl City).

The Rambling ends here, the songs are in no particular order and outplay the length of the show (just speculation)

Dreamline

Grand Designs

The Big Money

Force Ten

Distant Early Warning

just the intros of 2112 and Cygnus X-1 book 1

Snippits of Xanadu

Marathon

Caravan

The Anarchist

Carnies

The Weapon

Headlong Flight

By-Tor and the snow dog

Neils electronic drum solo from the CA tour

Sure there are plenty more that would possibly work great by accidental timing. In retrospect the entire Power Windows album has a nice bang to it.

To any one that cares here are the other songs I would consider

From Oingo Boingo: Dead Mans Party, Just Another Day, No One lives forever, Gratitude, Good for your soul, Grey Matter, Home Again, Elevator man, When the lights go out, Insanity, War Again

From Owl City: Galaxies, Dreams and Disasters, Cave in, How I became the sea, Early Birdie, Umbrella Beach, Hello Seatle Remix

I have the Studio Discography on my iPod in one playlist, The Live Discography on another playlist and all my music in a third playlist. I usually hit shuffle albums and let it play for 8+ hours a day at work.

Wow, to be able to listen to your favourite music during the entire work day... that must be pretty darn awesome! Me, I get so excited whenever 'Limelight' comes on about once each month! But, of course, I have my ipod for my walks to and from work, so that's nearly a full hour of good ol' Rush.

I drive from 8-5 so I turn the music up loud in my van.

Nice! I bet you must have a huge amount of music that you go through. How big is your ipod? I've just upgraded from a 2GB to a 160GB one and I've been putting Rush concerts on it, and there's a whole new dimension opening up for me! :)

Rush Hard

Rush Instrumentals

Rush Live (Bootlegs)

Rush Live (Official Best)

Rush Live Sleep (Official - Early) (MP and earlier)

Rush Live Sleep (Official - Late) (Signals and later)

Rush Live Sleep (Bootleg Early)

Rush Live Sleep (Bootleg Synth)

Rush Live Sleep (Bootleg Zenith)

Rush minus Rush (just covers, solo and collaborations)

Rush minus Rush good

Rush minus Rush great

Rush Sleep

Rush Sleep (Early)

Rush Sleep (Prog)

Rush Sleep (Synth)

Rush Sleep (Veterans) (Presto - T4E)

This is a cool thread! I have 4 Rush playlists on the iPod now:

Clockwork Angels Tour Set, which are in order and the A/B songs just back to back

80's Rush, which is a slight misnomer. It's just all the synth-era stuff.

Rush Favorites: There are 88 songs on this one, studio and live, so I can't type these all out.

End Of The Day Rush. I made the beginnings of this one after a bad breakup, but it took on a life of its own after a while. Anyway, when I get home from work, this is what I usually put on shuffle:

Nobody's Hero

Alien Shore

The Speed of Love

Leave That Thing Alone

Cold FIre

Everyday Glory

Closer to the Heart

Madrigal

In the End

Distant Early Warning

La Villa

Time Stand Still

Open Secrets

Second Nature

Prime Mover

Lock and Key

Mission

High Water

Limelight

Vital Signs

Entre Nous

Different Strings

Freewill

Grand Designs

Territories

Middletown Dreams

Mystic Rhythms

The Pass

War Paint

Presto

Red Tide

Hand Over Fist

Available Light

Bravado

The Big Wheel

Heresy

Ghost of a Chance

Resist

Subdivisions

The Analog Kid

The Weapon

Losing It

Armor & Sword

Bravest Face

Good News First

We Hold On

Half the World

The Color of Right

Ghost Rider

The Stars Looks Down

How It Is

Vapor Trail

Earthshine

Sweet Miracle

Tears

Halo Effect

The Wreckers

The Garden

(that was longer than I realized)

Anyway, you guys have some cool ideas that I now have to steal! At one point, I had a "Neglected Rush" playlist that was just stuff with the lowest play counts and songs I usually forget about. It was a fun one!
