SignatureAurora75
I think I read somewhere that Alex on Limelight/Moving Pictures recorded with a single coil strat. yes? no? The opening riff is powerful and punchy. It seems more humbucker to me. I can hear the single coil for sure though in the chorus part of the song. I've been tryin to nail that tone in Pod Farm, but for me it's like impossible, at least with the equipment Pod Farm has.
Invisible To Telescopic Eye
In this video he's playing a strat. Look to see if you can figure out which pickup(s) he's using. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLVmrG583kM Edited February 4, 2012 by Invisible To Telescopic Eye
PW_Guitarist
Yes, I believe it is single coil, but the sound is way thicker. I believe that is because there are many guitar tracks layered. He sounded so much thinner on the ESL video. I did some demo recordings with an engineer who used a similar technique - had me record 2 tracks, then panned one hard left and one hard right. Fattens up the sound real good.
ChiliFan
On the 2112/Moving Pictures Classic Albums DVD Alex explains how they used several guitar tracks with different effects on Tom Sawyer. Limelight must have had something similar. 10:35 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVNkNquRPr8
hunter
It also seems fairly compressed.
