zogoto Posted May 4, 2011 Share Posted May 4, 2011 From what I've sampled of his 'first-person narrative' style, I am unimpressed and not interested, and I would be surprised if he attempted to do something outside of this style. That being said, if he were to attempt a purely fictional novel, I don't see it being very successful. I think the main problem would be characters. Drama in stories comes from characters with drastically different approaches to life coming into conflict in same way or form, and I just don't think Mr. Peart would be able to create a character who's opinions are drastically different from his, while also keeping him/her realistic. It's not necessarily his fault- creating someone believable is very very tricky, especially considering it isn't something he's practiced. Even in Rush lyrics, he's always talked from his perspective and with the expectation of others empathizing with him. Edit: added a few more thoughts.
