Eddie Trunk will interview Neil Peart for VH1 Classic this week

We recently learned that radio host and VH1 Classic VJ Eddie Trunk would be interviewing Neil Peart for his radio show and VH1 Classic. He told us about it in his blog a couple weeks back and he's just posted some more details. It looks like the interview will happen this week.

... I'll be interviewing Neil Peart from Rush this week for VH1 Classic. So psyched to talk to one of the worlds greatest drummers. As you know Neil has not done interviews in ages. He has a new book coming out we will talk about, plus of course Rush music. I'm honored Neil decided to break his silence by talking with me. He actually saw my VH1C interviews with Geddy and Alex and knows I'm a fan and know the band. I'll have air date/time and a report from my day with Neil mid week. ...

Eddie's right about Neil not giving interviews in years, but he actually broke his silence last week when he was interviewed by KLOS's Jim Ladd. In this interview he spoke mostly about his upcoming book, Roadshow, but also revealed that Rush will be getting together the week of September 18th to finish up pre-production and head into the studio in November. This will be his first televised interview in some time however; it's been close to 10 years (just before the dual tragedies of the deaths of his daughter and wife) since he's done one. You can check out one of his last televised interviews here. It's a MuchMusic interivew from 1997 that's a little eerie to watch in light of the tragedies that were to strike Neil's life shortly after. You can also watch the Eddie Trunk VH1 Classic interview of Alex and Geddy from late last year here. As always, I'll keep you posted as I find out more.

Eddie Trunk Neil Peart interview update

Eddie Trunk recently posted in his blog that he would be interviewing Neil Peart for VH1 Classic this week. It looks like the interview happened yesterday. Here's his report:

Being in this business now over 20 years there aren't many artists I haven't interviewed in the rock world and I knocked another one off that list today when I had the honor of doing a TV interview with the great Neil Peart. I was a huge fan of the early Rush material and have total respect for this great band and what they have accomplished in their 30 year history. I interviewed Alex and Geddy several tims but as Rush fans know, Neil is very private and does not do things like TV interviews very often. Neil had seem my interviews with his two band mates and I was honored he wanted to break his relative silence with me. We spoke about Rush, drums and his upcoming new book Roadshow. I have not met many artists like Neil Peart. He is one of the most unassuming, nicest guys I have met. Just a great person to talk to and a "regular" guy (and I mean that in the best of ways!). The only time Neil gets reserved is when you make a stink of the fact that he's Neil Peart, one of the greatest drummers on the planet! He just doesn't like a "scene" and simply says "I hit things with sticks, it's not a big deal". Neil's books are a great read and it was such a thrill to have some time with him today. I'll post in the TV section when this interview will air and also have photos up soon. Neil was also interested in doing my radio show but wants to come in the studio VS a call in, so when his schedule permits we will make that happen. On the Rush front the guys have a new CD about half done and will resume work in November. We all know Neil is a drum icon and a great player, but take it from me, he is also a super person and great interview subject. I only wish we had more time but hopefully he can do the radio soon.

I think Eddie is a bit of a Rush fan - you think? smile.gif So no real details yet but he said he'll be posting in his TV section when the interview will air along with some pictures. He also mentioned that Neil will also try and do an in-studio interview for Eddie's radio show sometime in the near future when his schedule permits. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.
