And now I will attempt to compile the results for VH1! 11. Ice Cream Man 10. You Really Got Me 9. Little Dreamer 8. Jamie's Cryin' 7. Feel Your Love Tonight 6. On Fire 5. I'm The One 4. Atomic Punk 3. Runnin' With The Devil 2. Eruption 1. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love There you have it. I'll try to be more consistent with the poll making this time! Lol.

At long last we arrive at the final poll in this winding series of me not doing this as gracefully as our friend hi water. But that's okay, because at least we've done it!

I'm The One is out, and let it be known that Feel Your Love Tonight has been slaughtered mercifully by On Fire in the rock Colosseum. -
Van Halen Songs Elimination: Van Halen ROUND 6
Entre_Perpetuo posted a topic in Music Of The Spheres
Back at it! This time we had a tie for elimination, so you get to pick which of the two eliminated parties gets EXECUTED in the Rock Colosseum (props if you watch that series on YT). For me, Feel Your Love Tonight is one of the weakest songs on the LP. I still love it, but it's far too streamlined. On Fire may be a bit grating in the wrong context, but I've just gotta love the energy! As for the regular voting...I'm actually not sure... you see to me Runnin' With The Devil and Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love are on the overrated side of the VH catalogue, but they are great. Meanwhile Eruption is just as powerful today as it must've been in 1978, but there's so little of it there to vote for! Meanwhile do I prefer I'm The One for that barbershop quartet glory, or Atomic Punk for VH concocting some 1980s cyber punk comic book world via a killer little number that flirts with metal? And do I like them better than the hits? I just don't know... -
Van Halen Songs Elimination: Van Halen ROUND 5

And yet again! The majority has voted off my favorite remaining! Apparently I get something much different out of this album than the rest of you! Oh well, it's just a game, lol. Anyway let's see Feel Your Love Tonight outta here! -
I got myself a bowl of ice cream, thought to myself "I want to make a new thread," and it hit me! Ice Cream Man! Van Halen covers! They have a ton! Which is your favorite?

Van Halen Songs Elimination: Van Halen ROUND 4

Finally! Out with my least favorite! Not that I don't like it, but easily the weakest tune on the record in my book. -

Who’s better? Who’s your fav? A few years ago I probably would’ve leaned towards VH, but LZ’s best albums are better than VH’s best albums for me. However, I LOVE VH’s energy. They were one of those perfect rock bands. Great melodies, great rhythms, great riffs, electric solos, great energy, great fun. LZ’s just deeper, but not necessarily the better band to me. Not every day of the week anyway.

I'm going with Rush, but it's close.

So these two debut albums are among the best debut albums in existence and the most influential albums on the rock music scene of the late seventies and early eighties. Boston essentially kicked off the success of Album Oriented Rock (AOR) radio, giving huge popularity and rise to the more commercial material of bands like Styx, Journey, Foreigner, and REO Speedwagon, forming a style of popular music which dominated the commercial rock scene until the mid-eighties when all of these bands nearly simultaneously broke up. Van Halen essentially kicked off the success of the Hair Metal scene, giving huge popularity and rise to the music of Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Ratt, Guns N' Roses, and many others. These bands held a more underground, though still greatly commercially viable, style until AOR fizzled out in the mid eighties and Gun's N' Roses and Aerosmith (not hair metal, but still grittier) brought back grittier rock in popular music. Both albums are lodged with more than their fair share of hits and awesome songs, each playing essentially as a greatest hits album for their respective band (minus a few major hits). Which album do you prefer? Which album is more amazing?

This has to be the worst review of a concert by a classic band I've ever seen. I haven't seen this tour yet but so far all the reviews indicate that Eddie is playing better than he has in years if not decades. It's hard to imagine that the show was anywhere near this bad. http://www.heyreverb.com/blog/2015/07/21/van-halen-at-red-rocks-amphitheatre-photos-review/106005/

I know this is an old interview with Van Halen ( 1989 ) but Eddie does a quick mention Rush and it's the first time I'm hearing it so I'd thought I would share. Listen around 6:00-6:40. I guess it's a compliment ?
