I'm very happy that these albums finally got re-issued. They were all made available on streaming services for the first time as well. While I don't expect these albums to rack up massive streaming numbers, I hope that they do well enough that it pisses Sharon Osborne off since she made sure that Black Sabbath's website only mentions the Ozzy years and nothing else.

Actually after a quick Google search this review sums up my thoughts after one listen pretty completely and then adds a bunch more context to explain why they can and should do better.

Again, still like the album.
If they do better next time maybe they can become national champs 🤪

Machine Head/In Flames/Lacuna Coil/Unearth- These Scars Won't Define Us (single)
I live in a world where three of my all time favourite bands...collaborated...
It's insanely good!
I like the song too. I guess we now know what it takes for Lacuna Coil to put out a good song these days. Machine Head.

Paradise Lost and Type O are probably gonna be my big bands in the next few months just for this reason!
I hope you resume Paradise Lost one day. Like Testament, they have been pretty fires a HEAVY metal band since In Requiem in 2007. You could start there? That way you skip all the commercial years that I remember turned you off.
Oh wow, that feels like ages ago when I went through their discography. I think that was a few years before the pandemic actually. Yeah, that sudden change in their sound was a bit jarring. I've heard good things about their output over the last several albums. So maybe it's time for a revisit. It's always tough, at least for me, to jump into a band that has a big catalog. There's a lot to take in during a short period of time and sometimes I walk away planning to revisit one day and just never get around to doing it again.

Type O Negative- October Rust
Perfect time of year to listen to them when the days are shorter and colder. They fit autumn/winter so well.

i love Later Testament because of how LOUD and OTT it all is, lol

Testament is the best they've ever been since Formation. Dark Roots Of Earth is my favorite album from them by a lot.

Growing up I never cared for them because they were just everywhere all the time. Every single was huge. Every album was huge and that continued for about 20 years. They were so big that I felt like I was being forced to like them rather than making the decision myself as to whether or not I liked them and that really turned me off. Perhaps a lot of others felt the same and that contributed to the hate. Now, that I'm older, I don't really have a problem with them anymore. Do they still release new music?

I saw them for the 4th time last night in Toronto and they were amazing as usual. It was the last show of the 2024 tour and was notable because they played "Apologize" for the first time.
I'm glad they finally played it. They had been playing the song at soundchecks so eventually it was going to get played. The main issue with the song was that Dany plays the chorus with a slide on her finger but she had zero experience as to how to use one before this. So they had to practice the song a little more than usual so she could get used to not using the finger with the slide on it during the parts of the song where it wasn't needed. I'm sure Pau needed a little more practice with doing the screams too so she didn't accidentally blow out her voice since that's not something she usually does besides the big scream during Evolve.

The setlist has been the same for the whole tour so far. I don't think it's going to change every show like it used to when Portnoy did it before. I think this will help out James voice a lot by knowing what he's going to be singing at every show and he can make adjustments vocally if something isn't sounding right or he's having a hard time with hitting certain notes.

That makes a lot of sense. I’m sure they do feel proud of their work, as they should, but I look forward to seeing them stretch a bit more next time.
They are certainly doing things musically on the album that they haven't done before. I would definitely like to see them expand on that and I believe they will on future albums. They do talk about wanting to try new things and challenge themselves so I'm sure they will keep that going. Another reason the songs are very short on the album is that the record label put them in a tough spot with the recording of it. During the final months of last year the band was splitting time between touring and recording the album. So they had to get things done pretty quickly and needed to be immediately happy with what they did. The singles started coming out in February and the band finished up recording in December. So the label didn't really give them any time to sit with the songs and decide if they wanted to change something like they had with the songs on Error. The band got completely fried doing this schedule and said that they would never record an album like that again. So the next album they should have some more time to work on songs and not make them so short. There are definitely songs on KMF that I think could have benefited from small things like extending the intro or outro.

You like what you like and that’s fair enough. Though I do remember being in a similar mindset about a decade ago before my taste broadened.
As for this new Warning album. I’m not sure it’s their Hysteria (seeing the commercial streamlining but not actually seeing any hits), but I’m sorry to say this is definitely not their CoS. That was Rush digging in their heels about their own muses and not giving almost any thought to its accessibility. This is not that. Keep Me Fed is a very blatant attempt to streamline and commercialize their songs, and bands that start down this road rarely turn from it by the next album. My hope is that whatever’s driving them to go in a more pop direction has more to do with their love of and curiosity for pop than with the possibility it might make them more accessible. If they really love and want to keep exploring this vein for the music’s sake, I think they’ll make something really special in the next couple records. If this is more about streamlining their sound to get a broader appeal, my guess is the initial hype will wear off before anything breaks them through to that mythical much larger audience.
I think they intentionally went more accessible with this album in part because the record label didn't really do too much to promote Error. I think the band felt that they gave the label the best possible album that they could but the label just didn't seem that into promoting it too heavily. The band also said that in order to get financing from the label to record the album, the label wanted to hear three really good singles from them. More, Sick and Hell You Call A Dream were those three songs. I'm guessing since the label gave the go ahead to record the rest of the album after they recorded those songs that the band felt like since they liked those three songs, what about a whole album in a similar vein. If every song can potentially be a single than the label will be happy. Now, I'm not saying that they were forced to write anything that they didn't want to with KMF but it certainly seems like the label tried to nudge them in a certain direction. I do think that this is a very good collection of accessable rock songs and the band did genuinely write what they felt and are proud of their work on it. But there's probably some influence from the label which dictated the direction.

Saturday, the only interesting band is INXS, and I only like a few songs from The Clash. That day is a hard no.
Monday you have Bowie leading off and prime-era U2 much later in the day, but that's it. Too much dead space between those two to hang there the whole day.
Sunday we have Van Halen, Scorpions, Triumph and Preist in the first four spots. Randy Rhoads died the year before so no need to hang out for Ozzy. I could leave after the first four bands and be happy.
You do know that festival lineups are arranged from headliner to opener when they make the posters, right? No way were Van Halen and David Bowie opening those shows. Triumph billed over Priest and Ozzy is a strange thing though.

Yeah I don’t see them doing anything envelope pushing for Portnoy’s first album back. I’m sure Mike is doing his best not to be overbearing so he can be sure this reunion works, plus I’m extra sure the rest of the band still remembers The Astonishing.
The first single shows that he is being overbearing though. It sounds exactly like what the band was before he left. They didn't have that vibe at all with Mangini. Portnoy is also doing the setlist again. So yeah, he's back to running things.

It's ok. Pretty much what I expected. Besides The Astonishing, I really liked everything they did with Mangini. So, while I didn't feel like a change was necessary, I totally get why Portnoy was brought back.

I struggle to think of any bands who don't release multiple singles ahead of the album these days. It's become a standard thing now. I'm pretty sure it has to do with wanting to drive streaming numbers up. The songs that are picked to be singles are released before the album and the record label will push those singles in the order that they came out in throughout the albums touring cycle. Perhaps there is also a mindset in the music industry that if people are familiar with multiple songs off an album before release that they are more likely to listen to the album in full. I don't think the bands have much say in it. It's strictly a label thing.
