Why do you think that Rod? I mean, they'e certainly not getting any younger but was there stuff you saw in the show that makes you think that?

The slowing down of certain songs - most notably Fear of the Dark and Aces High, and also Bruce's voice. He still reaches the high notes, but his enunciation is really compromised when he does that. The excitement of his performance and his technique are still there, but his "instrument" is just not the same. I guess it has to do with aging and also the cancer - part of his tongue had to be removed.

They're never playing that. When have they teased doing it? If Maiden doesn't play a song when they're touring for the album that song is on then they never will play it live. There's over 40 years of touring to back that up.

Maybe they see the end of the line and decided to give the fans what they want before calling it quits? I just heard from an artist that does the backdrops for them that they asked for something for Deja Vu. Maybe now it's time to break that rule...I would hate for them to tease SIT and only play the usual suspects - Heaven Can Wait, Wasted Years etc.

  3. I think a lot of people here might be fans of Fates Warning...Terry Brown produced a few of their albums in the mid-90's, and they're considered one of the forefathers of prog metal. Sadly, I think their recording career has ended, and if and when we hear of them again, it will be about touring.

Here's an interview I did recently with their guitarist and main songwriter, Jim Matheos: https://www.sonicperspectives.com/interviews/interview-with-matheos-jim/

I'd have to check but I think they were mentioned several times over the last few years in one of the UK's rock magazines. Maybe Classic Rock. A track of theirs might have been on one of the free compilation CDs these mags sometimes have. I've got a few and see if I can track it down (although Spoti-thingy might be easier).

Tell me what you think when you get to listen to them!

  5. Do I prefer their output with Portnoy? Yes.

Do I want Portnoy to come back? No.

The band has evolved quite nicely, their status is bigger than ever, and they keep putting out quality material. I do feel nostalgic about the Portnoy years, but even if he came back today, it wouldn't be the same. I hope they can do a celebratory tour or a one-off show at some point, but they're doing just fine without him.

  6. Thanks everyone! I had a great day, despite the fact that we still have to isolate due to covid. I'm clear, but my wife now has it...luckily, our daughter is still ok, even though she's in close contact with us. But all in all, this was just a minor inconvenience. We had an amazing lunch together, and I went for a run early in the day. All good! As soon as we're all clear, we'll celebrate with friends.

There are tons of folks that I wish would come back. Tombstone, Lucas, greyfriar, JohnnyBlaze to name just a few.

I have Tombstone on Facebook. Did all of you add me on Facebook, by the way? I'm there!
