  1. QUOTE (rummut71 @ Oct 30 2010, 11:55 AM) Perhaps an Insurgentes movie thread as well... Some of us have not yet seen it, and that last page was so 'spoiler-tastic' I had to skip the whole thing... Are their spoiler tags here? Yeah, I'll admit I got carried away with revealing some spoilers from the film....I honestly don't know if there is any spoiler tags here, but if there was and I knew about it, I would've definitely used it.
  2. Hahahahaha, Disney World was probably my favorite scene for humorous reasons. I honestly did not expect that to pop up in the movie at all and when it did it probably made my day, I repeated the scene over and over again after I finished watching the film for the first time. I laughed so hard I nearly cried! I honestly don't know what Steven's intentions of putting that scene in the film, whether it's to insult American culture or it's his way of being funny. I really wonder what the people in the costumes or the people that saw him that day thought about him....is it me or did Steven look like he was about crack a smile near the end of that scene where he's getting his picture taken? Love the fact that the sign looked like it said Carousel of Prog. That should totally be a reality! The ironic part about that scene is that my high school choir is going there during our spring break this year and I'm part of it. It's funny cause I'm going to think about that scene the entire time I'm staying there, and knowing me, I'm probably going to do some of the same stuff he did there. I will never think of Disney World the same way again! For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, I'm really sorry for the spoiler alert, I just had to bring it up.
  3. QUOTE (sullysue @ Oct 29 2010, 09:11 PM)I'm watching the Insurgentes DVD right now. And, I hope not to spoil anything, so I'll be as general as possible here. I appreciate SW's point of the demise of the "art" of music, or what used to be the art that came with music. I agree that there is a sterility that has come with the age of the CD. There isn't much but the CD when you buy it. (I won't even touch on the MP3 here. It's just a computer file, after all. Not much AT ALL to that.) Very few artists take the extra step in the process to present their music in a visually asthetic way. I remember getting the R30 DVD package and being so excited that it had those two picks and the "backstage pass" included, not thinking about how ridiculous and manufactured they were. I was floored, and actually inspired, when I got the deluxe edition of The Incident. The artistic value of not just the music, but what came with the CD's, made me feel like I had made a valuable investment in it. The discs weren't even the main component. The art was the main focus. In the packaging of it, anyway. It cost a pretty penny, mind you, and it pissed me off a little to be spending that much money at the time I made the actual purchase. But, having it in my hands and seeing exactly what I had paid for made it worth the price. And, I didn't buy any other music for a long time, because that ate up my music budget. But, it was like when we were kids and we had to take the time to decide, "Is this REALLY what I want? Because this is it for a while." Now, having the Insurgentes DVD and seeing the way it's packaged in an incredibly beautiful artistic way, and NOT costing a pretty penny, I appreciate his message that much more. I paused the DVD and went to look through my vinyl collection, or what's left of it. And, I know what he means. I miss that tangible element of having a record sleeve in my hands to look at and pour over the lyrics from while I listen to the music. This might sound goofy, but I sometimes stick my nose into the sleeves and take a deep breath, because they still smell like my bedroom from when I was growing up. It would be cool to travel around and make a documentary of people showing their vinyl collections and telling their stories of them. It wouldn't be a very interesting documentary if it were to be of people showing off their CD collections. It isn't the same. All I can say is that you're spot on with that statement of yours! You pretty much spoke for everyone on here...literally! BTW, I thought Insurgentes was an awesome documentary. It's one of the few documentaries that I felt I could watch thousands of times and not get bored of it. Plus, I found some certain scenes of the movie to be funny in a good way and found it nice to get to see some certain aspects of his life.
  4. QUOTE (Natch @ Oct 28 2010, 09:39 AM) QUOTE (PolarizeMe @ Oct 27 2010, 07:31 PM) Finished watching the documentary but like you said, I'm not going to spoil it! Speaking of tour merchandises on Burning Shed, just for curiosity, was the light grey Recordings shirt sold at the Radio City show or the dark grey one? Cause based on my memory, it looked like it was the light grey one, but I'm still uncertain. Regardless, I personally like the light grey one better than the dark one, but that's just me. I recall seeing the light gray one. I thought so, I wanted to pick up both the RCMH and Recordings shirt at the show but I only had enough for one shirt and bought the RCMH shirt just to be safe. Recordings is definitely worth the purchase...it's been out of print for a long time, and they've just reissued it last September. You should consider yourself lucky that you purchased it before it might go out of print again, I've been a fan for only 10 months and I've made sure to buy any rare/out of print reissues before they're gone. The album itself has some nice gems though, for example Buying New Soul and Even Less.

  6. My Insurgentes DVD arrived today! Going to watch it right now!

What a f***ing champion. Agreed. One of the nicest and most generous men in music today. Whatever music he comes up with and presents, I'll always be happy to cherish and listen to them. He simply puts his heart and soul into making music and that's why I love him as a musician. There's nothing he's ever done that was dead and unemotional, IMO. But you are actually going to buy the stuff... Right? Yeah, of course I'm going to buy the stuff. I'm a 100% supporter on buying physical or download only albums. The last thing I want to do is to leech off of Steven Wilson. And that would definitely NOT be something I want to be remembered for. So far, almost physical copy of PT material I have were bought from the PT Store with only one or two exceptions, and even when I bought an album (Up the Downstair) on Amazon, the album arrived in my mail with the front cover of the linear notes ruined and the back of the hardcover case with a huge scratch like dent. I felt so superstitious because of that incident, I've exclusively bought or downloaded PT/Steven Wilson related material on Burning Shed ever since.

  9. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Oct 25 2010, 07:05 PM) Steven Wilson uploaded the Insurgents bonus tracks on Soundcloud for free. http://soundcloud.com/steven-wilson/tracks On Steven's Facebook, he's asking the fans on what other stuff he should upload onto Soundcloud. Unfortunately, songs that are currently in print or owned by Atlantic Records like Half-Light and Mother and Child Divided can't be uploaded. He hopes those songs will be released on a Recordings II once the rights expired and he owns them again. I requested that he should upload the very rare and out of print XMII and a very long out of print live EP called Spiral Circus, though I kinda feel bad for asking because there's just so many things he can do...I would be willing to pay for a high quality download for those on Burning Shed if possible. Edit: I just watched a Roadrunner Records interview with him and he explains that the RCMH show wasn't filmed because they felt too much pressure already given the fact they're playing at a prestigious venue and playing the longest show they've done ever.
  10. To the post about the meaning of Trains, that's a very interesting interpretation. I didn't even have a clue that Trains could possibly even be about something like that....to be honest, if Trains was really about that, it would've musically flowed with Lazarus very nicely... I've always wanted to think that Shesmovedon and Feel So Low were somehow about Steven's former ex-girlfriends but how do I know since he's never mentioned (and he shouldn't really) anything about his love life other than that the girl speaking during the intro of Tinto Brass was his Japanese girlfriend at the time and she basically spoke about whatever was written about the guy of the same name in a film book. (Source, DPRP/Dutch Progressive Rock Page during the Stupid Dream era) I also interpreted the lyrics of Fadeaway as the feeling one gets from either a LSD trip or near death experience based on the lyrics "I stumbled through the dark unaware/Where do the voices come from/I fell through a hole in the floor"
  11. QUOTE (Steevo @ Oct 24 2010, 04:38 PM)QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Oct 24 2010, 01:33 PM)QUOTE (Rush! @ Oct 23 2010, 03:10 PM) I find Mellotron Scratch to be one of their best & most beautiful songs, & also I believe it's underrated. Especially on the Deadwing album. Anyone agree/disagree? Great song. Its VERY underrated imo. 4:55 onwards...pure PT heaven Awesome, awesome song...I love that hard rock jam or as Steven once called it "that Townshend thing" and the vocal harmonies at the end of the song especially. Another song I think is underrated is Fadeaway from the Up The Downstair album which in turn is a REALLY underrated album. Love the lyrics, the arrangement of it, especially the slide guitar. It's probably my favorite song from that Space Rock era and is on my top 3 albums next to Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream. If any of you haven't listened to Up the Downstair yet, I highly recommend that you do!
  12. Just got notified a couple of hours ago, so everything's fine with my order, woo hoo!
  13. Yeah, it sucks cause I pre-ordered it back in August....I've waited over 2 months for this...
  14. Yeah, I thought the 25th was the shipping date until Steven said on his Facebook/Twitter that it started shipping today. There's some people who already had their copies shipped. I guess their policy with these kinds of pre-orders is that they ship UK orders first, followed by European orders, then US orders, and finally rest of the world orders. I remember my Anesthetize Special Edition was shipped rather later than the UK/European ones because of that.
  15. The Insurgentes DVD shipped today, but I still didn't get my notification that it shipped yet, even though I pre-ordered mine in August with the bonus CD with the eMail order and transaction confirmation. Did any of you who pre-ordered it on Burning Shed got a shipping notification yet? I feel that I shouldn't worry about it unless nothing happens after the DVD officially comes out on October 25th.

  17. QUOTE (tjtull @ Oct 20 2010, 08:08 AM)QUOTE (Rush! @ Oct 20 2010, 12:19 AM) ^I was originally told that the Radio City show would be officially released, but then someone said the RAH show will be released instead. So I'm confused as well haha... I heard that "officially" they recorded the RAH show for release. However, I'm sure they are like most bands and record every show (in some form or another). So, there's always hope that RCMH will see the light of day in official release. I've been searching through their Twitter and on one post, they said they record almost every show for the archives and that they have many Incident shows recorded and most likely that includes the RCMH show. Also, I saw a post that mentioned the April 30th show at the Riviera Theater in Chicago was filmed but PT later said that the inclusion of songs that haven't been on a live release (The Incident, Bonnie The Cat, Russia on Ice and Stars Die) were not enough for a new DVD. So it's most likely we won't be getting a live DVD for awhile or at all. And regarding which show they will release, 3 weeks prior (Sep. 3rd) to the RCMH show they said that they're probably going to do "some kind of RCMH/RAH audio album if we can play the old songs well enough" I think from that statement, they're going to take the best performances of the two shows and release it on a live audio album for download on Burning Shed. Kinda like they did the Atlanta album in June for Mick Karn's cancer treatment.
  18. For awhile, in Animate I misheard "Polarize me" as "Pulverize me" So technically, my misheard lyric would translate to "Annihilate me" or "Reduce me into very little particles" I also thought "Goddess in my garden" was "God is in my garden"
  19. I'm not sure if this was asked already, but were both the Radio City Music Hall and Royal Albert Hall shows recorded for a live album or two? If so, I hope they will release a live recording of either or both shows on Burning Shed's site in the future.
  20. I completely agree. I would say that Lightbulb Sun is more underrated than Stupid Dream however. I'm in the minority that loves the Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun sound better than In Absentia onward.
  21. QUOTE (GuitarPlyr01 @ Oct 18 2010, 08:29 PM)QUOTE (That One Guy @ Oct 16 2010, 11:45 PM) I'd like to bring my fake setlist to the third page. It's too awesome. Set One: Limelight Freewill Territories Malignant Narcissism Tom Sawyer Vital Signs The Trees Caravan Secret Touch Armor and Sword La Villa Strangiato Set Two: Clockwork Angels Epic Leave That Thing Alone Jacob's Ladder Red Barchetta The Main Monkey Business Drum Solo Hemispheres Prelude / ByTor and The Snow Dog (shortened) / Working Man The Spirit of Radio Encore: 2112 Overture / Temples YYZ I'm pretty in love with this setlist. I think the band and fans alike would like a tour with an emphasis on Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, Instrumentals, S & A, and the new material. It would also be pretty awesome to have 2112 start an encore. It looks like there's a large amount of Hemispheres there too. If this "were" to be the setlist, I'd spend every cent I have and get to as many shows as I humanly could. This set ROCKS!!!! For me personally, the only thing I would change is swap Leave That Thing Alone with Where's My Thing. If they brought back Ghost of a Chance I'm sure they'll bring a song like Where's My Thing back in the setlist. Plus if they did, we're guaranteed a live version of it would beat the crap outta the wimpy production heard on Roll the Bones. Everything else on the list on the other hand is perfect! I'd kill to see Territories, Jacob's Ladder and Hemispheres live!
  22. I don't think Blackfield tour that much really, last time they played live was in 2007 during Blackfield II according to Setlist.fm. Good news is that they'll have a new album next year according to Steven. It kinda sucks though cause I'd want to see them too.
