Well apparently he let the cat out of the bag accidentally during the Jim Ladd interview last night.

I think they're taking an awful big risk

Why would it be a big secret? Either announce it or don't. It's not nice to **** with the fans who are shelling out big bucks for tickets. While many fans defend whatever they want to do, it seems plenty have strong feelings against this. So just let us know, because there is nothing about it on the radio ad I've been hearing.

  2. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 15 2012, 08:30 AM)
Well, I dont mean bone dry exactly where all they're doing is pounding out garbage without trying. I do think they're trying and probably like what they're doing, which is all that really matters.

But the writing is not on the level as it once was, and age does that to people so Im not saying they just arent trying at all, I just dont believe its like it was when they were young men, and that will effect the writing.

Age does that to *some* people, see Pete Townsend. They are choosing not to try as hard and that is a personality thing, not just age. There is a lot of pressure to "take it easy" and be lazy and fat at some point in life and it has become a mentality brainwashed into people. If some fans' expectations of older bands are so low, why not find a fresh young band to follow.

Someone earlier said old fans are passing away (?). I volunteer at nursing homes and have yet to hear Rush being played at any of them, but just wait about twenty years. These same arguments will still be happening from wheelchairs and maybe new Rush then will incorporate more keyboards. smile.gif Yup, they're immortal.

I'm going truly old school- after work I am driving to the mall to get me a copy- can't wait!

    653.gif

I'm going ancient and waiting until I can get to the local record/comics store and pay extra for it. I don't usually do that but in this case I just feel like it. And since my car is in the shop I'll be driving there in my father's 85 Chevy. Time machine for sure. Maybe I'll ask for an 8-track. smile.gif

  4. I grew up in a time of 45's and hits playing on AM radio. Then it went to FM and LPs. I can enjoy listening both ways, the ipod and full albums. There's no reason someone of any era cannot appreciate both. One will be missing something if they reject the idea of taking in the whole interconnected piece as it was intended to be heard.

I think another major problem is people holding their damn Iphone over their head right front of my face for the whole 2 hour concert blocking my view. God that's annoying. I don't mind them getting 30 seconds to have sentimental value, but recording the whole damn concert is unnecessary.

I'm with you on that. I'd like to see that go away, it's gotten really out of hand.

  6. QUOTE (lifeson90 @ Jun 6 2012, 03:59 PM)
yeah, aside from the fact they have families that need some of their time, i think over the years Rush have become maybe a little overly perfectionist if thats possible...... back in the mid 70's they went into a studio for 6 weeks and knocked out a little album called 2112, id like to see the guys at least try to adopt that kind of approach one more time and not get too stressed out making music anymore

This. And really, aren't their kids adults except for Neil's. They have plenty of time to be with their families. More than most of us who rush home from 9-5 jobs in traffic and pass out after dinner and do it again the next day.

  7. QUOTE (Mr. Henry Gale @ Jun 6 2012, 10:39 AM)
    Simple answer: they are old.

Imagine being their age, and putting out an album every year. It's not just the physical aspect of being old, it's also the creative aspect. Consider Rush has been making music for 30 years +. It's impressive they still have creative juice to put out competent albums!

Sometimes you get a second wind. It seems like CA is more creative than the last two albums. I hope they are in great shape on tour and put on an energetic live performance.

  8. QUOTE (Mr. Henry Gale @ Jun 5 2012, 11:21 AM)
I actually think this album will benefit from more time. I'm not saying people will think it's a masterpiece, no. But I think people will enjoy it and appreciate it overall the more time goes by.

I didn't get that vibe from Snakes & Arrows.

CA will be more appealing to more people than S&A and VT I think, even over time.

  9. QUOTE (lifeson90 @ Jun 5 2012, 11:15 AM)
i did hear a rumour that Tom Cruise may have done the voice on headlong flight, but that doesnt equate as satanic for me personally.

    Oh that's definitely satanic. AlienSmiley.gif

  10. I think they have proven that they haven't lost it and getting older doesn't mean it's over. Wishing they would ride on the momentum of this and do another album fairly soon. I guess I just kind of hope they get re-energized to make some great new stuff because they still can. It seems so many fans will be pleased with CA, but let's not make it seem like it should be their last.

That is hilarious, nice look rofl3.gif

This is one of the weirdest picture of 2.gif I've ever seen....They almost look like impersonators...What I'm actually saying is Neil looks like Neil, but Geddy and Alex look like a couple of ugly chicks dressed like dudes...well...or maybe it's ugly dudes dressed like ugly chicks...Geddy's shirt is really bad and the way Alex is clutching Neil....is sort of like a woman might clutch her man....just sayin'..and thinkin'...It's just weird.

There are other photos of them hanging all over each other like that. You could do that kind of stuff back then and it was just seen as goofing around. At least if you were high. The style for rock musicians then was androgynous so they fit right in.

  12. I'm a little worried about having floor seats, as this is a first for us and I am really short and my boyfriend is 6'2. We both might have a problem. I know whoever is behind bf is going to be disappointed and whoever is behind me will be happy and the people in front of me will all be taller than me and in front of bf will probably be shorter than him, but bf is very polite and will feel bad about standing and blocking people's view. Everyone will be standing though.

I think there should be a pre-front row for really short people, who block no one's view. wink.gif

Seven Cities of Gold - funky intro.  Who knew?

    extra funky! I love it!

Funky spacey grunge prog... only Rush.

  14. S&A seemed to establish that Neil was done with the clever cryptic lyrics. I expect more S&A type writing here and from now on, whether for good or bad, it's just how he does it now. CA may be incredible musically with an interesting concept though. I'm not sure melody is going to be a strong point but it seems like the music will be heavy, so we'll just see how it all comes together.

Lawrence Welk won't be conducting the orchestra.

That the audience will have committed the faux pas of failing to wear tuxes and white gloves and forgetting to bring jars of Grey Poupon to properly enjoy with the highbrow entertainment.

  16. QUOTE (USB Connector @ May 23 2012, 12:13 PM)
I don't think they would actually bring an orchestra with them. They keep saying in interviews how they used to consider backup vocalists for songs like Time Stand Still or having a keyboardist to lighten Ged's load during the HyF tour but scrapped the idea because fans (including myself) go to see Neil Peart, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee perform on stage, not Rush and friends. I would be a tad annoyed if Rush, who have a reputation on playing mind blowing music with only 3 members decide to tarnish that by having an orchestra when they've been mapping things like violins for Nobody's Hero and backup vocals to triggers for years.

The only reason I got tweaked is because Neil made that reference about being so affected watching the strings being recorded. Then found there had been a recent rumor of them touring with an orchestra of some type based on an interview, or something. I don't follow it that closely, it just seems to be coming up all of a sudden so it's worth considering.

  17. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ May 23 2012, 09:18 AM)
they could easily sneak in a small orchestra section without using the term orchestra to scare off people.  a night with rush and additional strings or something like that.

So they should trick people? Rush doesn't have to "sneak" anything. Either they will have other people playing with them or not, it's all the same whether it's four or forty.

The only question is if we can be informed ahead of the first show.

I believe other bands who have done this have made it known ahead of time. That's all, just informing the fans, many who have paid 300+. The best tickets are already sold anyway so they won't lose money, but some people may not care to see Rush+ and they should be able to decide.

I much prefer to watch Geddy do all his magic together. Something would be missing if he wasn't so busy with his keys and triggers. That is one reason I got seats on his side, and passed on better ones on Alex's side which I'm kind of regretting.

Thanks guys! I'm really excited for this now!

But my girlfriend is about 5 and a half feet tall.. will her whole experience be ruined?

She can stand on the seat and be the same height as everyone else biggrin.gif

Until the asshole that makes $5.50 an hr tells her to get down

Awe, that's not really fair. Regardless of what the guy makes, he has a job to do and keeping people from standing on chairs, falling off and then suing the venue, the promoter, the band AND the manufacturer of the chair ... is his job.

OP, tell your girl to wear really high heals.

What about mosh pits? Those seem more dangerous than chairs and that still goes on. And aren't people allowed to hold up their kids, or hold on to them on a chair? I'm not sure how a kid on the floor can see any other way unless they are right up front.

Please God, please let Lawrence Welk be the orchestra leader.

Look we know that at least 4 songs have strings on them, 2 of them being completely string intros. The question is how many musicians were at the recording? I really think its just may be a string quartet at the Concert. They really wouldn't need anything else if they decide to go through with it and perform the entire album live.

    confused13.gif

Then that's seven people performing on stage, four of whom are not in Rush. We should be informed ahead of time if that will be the case.

Why does it even matter? Are you going to skip the show if they bring an orchestra?

I would sell my premium tickets to someone who would appreciate that type of show instead of using them and being one of those bored looking people up front. I'd still go but I'd probably feel like sitting more so the uppers would be fine and cheaper. I just can't get excited about the prospect of Rush live with a string section unless it consisted solely of Les Claypool and his Whamola. smile.gif

Just not into it, but I'm happy for those who don't mind, as they will be excited either way.

Why? David Gilmour performed with a small orchestra last tour, he didn't make a major announcement! Why do you need an announcement?

    confused13.gif

You'll know after the first show!

    yes.gif

I'm not interested in that so if I knew in advance I could transfer my tickets to someone who might better appreciate an evening with Rush and String Quartet.

I would also hate to show up and be underdressed.
