We can imagine that the newly formed Empire, fresh off a victory over the Jedi, wanted to have absolute control over space travel technology. Perhaps the Empire shut down all advanced ship building throughout the galaxy, in order to prevent anyone from challenging their power. They played Prelude on the CP tour. They played Jacob's Ladder on the PW and ESL warmup tour and rehearsed it for Time Machine but was cut. Agreed about Different Strings. What does that even mean? Just because they played Jacob's Ladder 30 years ago (and yes I know what tours they played it on) doesn't mean they're feelings about the song can't change over the years. And why was it cut? Because they didn't want to play it. So by your reasoning Jacob's Ladder is a bad song. And they also played part of Prelude on R30 by the way. Geddy hates Fly By Night and Lakeside Park. I guess that means you do too...

(and Presto was the only previously unplayed songs they played on the Time Machine Tour by the way) So did you consider Presto (the song) to be no good until they've finally decided to play it? He's trying to use the bands (imaginary) reasons for not playing songs to validate (and I guess influence) his opinions. Kind of like LedRush does with his perceived audience reactions. Eh... Why not think for yourself instead of letting the band dictate what's good or not? And artists generally are not good judges of their own work. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Neil dislikes almost eveyything before Moving Pictures.

I appreciate this piece, though I disagree with you opinion on CA. Your take on each player is spot on. Well put IMO the band's best work is not found exclusively in the 70's or early 80's. Now, I'm familiar with your experience as a recording musician, you've shared you're "expertise" on several occasions. CA is still kicking my arse.
