After that, we played Monopoly .... then he had MY rump on a plate!! Now time for bed .... work tomorrow Enjoy your weekends, folks! Payday ruled as a game!!!!! And 'rump' is a great word eh!
  2. 1) Moonraker spelled protein wrong on page 1, even though he's a sciency-type guy. 2) To my knowledge, I didn't go to school with anybody who became famous. 3) The Iditarod dog sled race - from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska - commemorates an emergency operation in 1925 to get medical supplies to Nome following a diphtheria epidemic.
  3. QUOTE (pedro2112 @ Aug 29 2005, 08:20 PM) My interpretation of the last line of the article was that the movie sucks so badly, that they are trying to rewrite the script. Yet the pressure for them to put out the movie was so great, they went ahead and started filming without a script. In other words, the movie will stink to high heaven. One of the articles that I read suggested that one of the head studio execs is fast-tracking the X3 movie so that it will be competing head-to-head against Singer's Superman flick......some sort of pissing match because Singer jumped ship. I'll bet my family fortune that Singer's movie slaughters the X3 movie which sounds like a trainwreck waiting to happen (although I should point out that my family fortune consists mainly of debt).
  4. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Aug 27 2005, 07:24 PM) Finally filled a gap in my collection I've meant to remedy for years, but never got around to it - My Bloody Valentine - Loveless Ooohhh, I forgot about this band. My buddy in university hooked me on My Bloody Valentine along with countless other bands like Lush, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, and many others that I would never have considered at the time (I was strictly a metalhead back then ) Time to revisit some of these groups....thanks for the memory jog Madra!
  5. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Aug 27 2005, 12:30 PM) ...who's Rush Radio jingles inspire envy in broadcasters everywhere. Whoa, I forgot about that! Yet another drunken escapade gone awry!!
  6. Outstanding endlesslee mocking! Now hit us with your best shot, fire away!
  7. Deadwing by Porcupine Tree The first CD I've bought in a long time, and man it's good!!! Anyone who likes prog rock with a heavy edge should buy this album NOW!! (Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the concert in Toronto FYI.....I'll be there).
  8. I drive a 1992 Nissan Pickup, the only vehicle that I have ever purchased ($13,0000 Cdn new). It has so far lasted 375,000 km with minimal maintenance (americans can convert that to miles yourself, but I think you divide by two point something, or something ). Sorry to say it, but the Japanese vehicles are the way to go if you want reliablitiy eh! This truck has ruled, and I'm gonna run this sucka into the grond!

  11. Five tons of laundry? I dream of five tons of laundry.......right now I have 8 tons of laundry and 12 square miles of vacuuming (not to mention 69 things that need to be dusted).
  12. Well, my favorites have been mentioned ad nauseum, so I'll just do a shout out for the Friday the Thirteenth endecology.
  13. Another great adaptation was 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. I didn't read Kesey's book until after I saw the movie, but I ended up loving both. Fabulous film. Another horrendous adaptation was 'Even Cowgirls Get the Blues'. I really liked Tom Robbins' novel, but the movie was just awful.....even with Uma Thurman to look at.
  14. QUOTE (Oberon @ Aug 3 2005, 02:50 AM) QUOTE (Bastille Night @ Aug 2 2005, 10:13 AM) This is one of my fave pics from our vacation......taken in the garden at the Empress Hotel in Victoria. Where's the little guy? He makes me laugh everytime you post him. Here you go Oberon.......first one is him Stampeding in Calgary, and the second is vacuuming the lawn (he has a weird obsession with vacuum cleaners ) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/bastillenight/70ead2cd.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/bastillenight/7f5bf624.jpg

  16. I'm with the other KISS Army folks here. First album I bought was in '77, so I would've been 8 years old: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/bastillenight/64c59dde.jpg
  17. Well, I searched for this topic and found threads for Grisham and King, but no others. So, what are your favorite and most hated book adaptations to film? I am a diehard reader from my formative years, and I am usually disappointed with film adaptations of my favorite books. However, there are a few good ones out there. So to get things started, here are a couple: My Favorites: Stand by Me, Lord of the Rings (one of the 'unfilmable' books), Shawshank Redemption (hmmmm, two Stephen King stories) My Least Favorite: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.......one of my favorite books (another 'unfilmable' book), one of my favorite directors (Terry Gilliam) and two of my favorite actors (Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro), yet the film didn't work for me at all. So, how 'bout you?
  18. QUOTE (Slaine mac Roth @ Jul 31 2005, 05:50 PM) As a die-hard Harry Potter fan I'm really looking forward to Goblet of Fire as, with the exception of HBP, its my favourite of the books. As for Emma WAtson eho plays Hermione, it'll be legal next year I was watching POA last night, wondering if I was the only dirty old man who was thinking this. Apparently not it seems! Loved all the books, and the movies. The first three books were rather short compared to books 4, 5, and 6, so it will be interesting to see how well they compress the longer books into a movie timeframe. Hopefully it'll work out alright! Rushgoober's comments have given me an idea for another thread! High time I started one since I've been slacking lately.
  19. I picked Monty Python (of course), but Napolean Dynamite would be another good choice http://www.tribute.ca/tribute_objects/images/movies/napolean_dynamite/napoleandynamite3.jpg
