  1. In Bruce's bio he said they lacked criticism after Seventh Son. It seemed that their formula couldn't fail, and they could have used some advice for No Prayer.

I'm possibly the only person who likes No Prayer better than Seventh. :)

Seventh is very good, I like every Maiden album except the Blaze ones (which I have to revisit. I have to listen around Blaze. It's not Bruce-centrism, I like Paul's work. Just don't think Blaze fit well. The Clansman is excellent, though). No Prayer is really uneven and I don't like every song, so arguably it's worse than Seventh even for me. But it's high points are better than Seventh's as well.

It's not one of my favorites, and it doesn't hold a candle to SSOASS, but No Prayer is Maiden's most under-rated album. It's definitely better than Fear Of The Dark. The songs are just plain better overall and it sounds fresher. It's a shame they have completely forsaken playing Tailgunner, Public Enema, or anything from that album live. The Legacy Of The Beast Tour would have been the perfect time to dust off a song from that album and stop playing FOTD for at least one freaking tour!
  2. I like how there was a heavy focus on Piece Of Mind. Aside from Maiden's 2005 Early Days tour, they have skimped over this album pretty much since Somewhere In Time 86-87. I'm not the biggest fan of playing both The Clansman and Sign Of The Cross. I'd like to see them play something from No Prayer For The Dying--not that it's their best by any means, but because they haven't played anything from this for decades and it's criminally under-rated IMO. And for Christ's sake, lose Fear Of The Dark for at least one tour! It's a great song, but has totally warn out it's welcome--it aint no Hallowed. But on another positive note, I'm almost shocked they finally dusted off Flight Of Icarus--and the flamethrower was dope. I'd give this set list an A-, but because FOTD is still being played, I give it a B+. I'm sure this will keep Steve Harris up at night.

  3. I'm not a big TV viewer, but Anthony was one of the few personalities that instantly grabbed me and I became hooked on the first few seasons of No Reservations. I kinda lost track of his career but would check in on him now and again. Really sad. RIP man. :martini:
  4. God there are a lot of quotable lines from this franchise, and I hear myself quoting Clubber, Drago, Paulie and Sly a lot...but when I read through these the one that really reasonated with me was when Apollo told Rocky 'Do everyone a favor and knock this chump out'. It's the first time in the franchise Apollo begins to become a relatable figure. #CarlWeathersIsTheShit
  5. They should have dropped Turbo Lover, that's had a very long run in the setlist.

They should indeed, but I've given up on that ever happening. The casual fans still respond to it and I imagine the band likes having easy songs mixed in with Sinner, Freewheel and the like.

Unfortunately, Turbo Lover is like Maiden's 'Fear Of The Dark'. They are both good songs and great live, but they have worn out their stay. They need to be dropped to work in other true classics or forgotten gems. There is no reason these bands should still be playing these two songs on every tour since their inceptions.

  6. No order after Levee:

    1. When The Levee Breaks

    Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

    Bring It On Home

    Carouselambra

I think I may have left off some good ones. :P

  7. Christ, for a minute I thought your post said 'Carlos Cavazo' Killed By Giraffe '. I expected to see a video loop of the Quiet Riot guitarist being headbutted by the animal while Bang Your Head was playing. I'm glad none of that happened, but that's unfortunate for the film maker. RIP, dude.

  8. “Anytime the headliner can’t hold their crowd, they shouldn’t be headlining.” - Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath in response to opening act KISS blowing them off the stage, Aug 2nd 1975

Sabbath circa 1975 wouldn’t have gotten blown off any stage by anyone.

True, but I could imagine the crowd being taken off their feet by the sheer energy of KISS back in the day--remember, people hadn't seen anything like that before. Just watch those first tours on Kissology Vol 1. They really were one of the best live acts of all time.

  10. If I knew how to put spoiler tags on my responses I probably would have.

To hide any post, you bookend it with brackets [.....] with "spoiler" inside the first bracket and "/spoiler" inside the end bracket.

It's just like quoting someone. You use brackets with "quote" and "/quote".

    Thanks, man.
  11. If I knew how to put spoiler tags on my responses I probably would have. But seriously, anyone dumb enough to read a movie reaction thread (especially if it doesn't say 'No Spoilers' on the heading) and expects for there to be no spoilers, deserves to be...spoiled. :dweez:
  12. SPOILERS AHEAD! As good as it was, I don't think this was the best MCU movie; there is too much going on to just sit back and enjoy this fully; total tension all the time. The action parts are bordering on 'too busy' like a Transformers movie. BUT, this is kinda what needed to happen...a culmination of everything that has happened so far concerning the Infinity Stones. And I do really like this movie. I think Avengers 4 will effect the way I view Infinity War too. Obviously, everyone who disintegrated will be brought back, and almost certainly the character that was 'sacrificed' for the Soul Stone will return. The next movie will be heavier because it will be the original Avengers team sacrificing themselves (at least some of them) to bring back everyone. My guess is there will be a race to forge another Infinity Gauntlet since Thanos pretty much fried his glove pulling out the power move at the end. Avengers 4 title prediction: Avengers Assemble! or Infinity Gauntlet.

PS--The Valkyrie is still alive. One of the Russo's confirmed she escaped with several Asguardians. He said Korg and Miek's fates are up in the air. Another prediction: She'll take Thor's place on the team.

  13. My biggest dislikes of Episode 8:

    1. Luke isn't Luke

    2. After Carrie Fisher's unfortunate death, they should have left Luke alive on the island...although apparently you can do anything with the force now so...

    3. Nonchalantly killing off Admiral Ackbar off screen...Christ, have some f**king respect for this character.

    4. They spend way too much time on that island going nowhere.

    5. Finn & Rose's misadventure was pointless and sloppy writing

    6. EVERY MALE CHARACTER HAS A FEMALE TELLING THEM THEY ARE WRONG EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

    * Finn has Rose telling him he is wrong about leaving the ship, about Benico Del Toro, about what made Canto Byte worth it, about sacrificing himself.

    * Poe has has Laura Dern and Leia telling him he's wrong (because they won't include him in their plan for no reason)

    * Luke has Rey telling him he's wrong about his pessimistic hermitic ways (rightly so).

    * Kylo Ren has Rey telling him he's wrong about holding onto his New Order philosophies (another flawed male).

There is an overt message here. I call this neo-feminism, because true feminism is about equality for everybody and not being pigeon-holed into a gender stereo type because of your sex. Trust me, I'm an educated person and have read a lot of literary criticism and their schools of thought. In short, some themes are on purpose, some themes are not. The diminution of the male is purposeful in this movie, there is no escaping it.

Things I didn't necessarily have a problem with, because I think they will be rectified in Episode 9:

    1. Snoke being offed. One of the few twists that made sense and was exciting. But, I think (hope) he'll be back because he's Darth f***ing Plagueis --Daisy Ridley blurted it out in an interview and Rian Johnson inadvertently admitted it later too.

    2. Captain Phasma being offed so quickly--she'll be back.

    3. No confrontation between BB-8 and BB-9E. We just see this new intriguing evil little bastard looking at BB-8...then nothing. Seriously? There has to be a duel of the droids in Episode 9. And hopefully more R2-D2; I miss you buddy!

  14. I read that Rian Johnson has received death threats. I think that's just terrific. :finbar:  :madra:  :nya nya: :ranton:

yeah I am sure he losing sleep about that as he develops his new trilogy

Supposedly, he's being pulled from the new trilogy. I can only hope, but the damage its done. This is the only Star Wars movie I didn't see more than once or even buy the dvd. I'm not even going to Solo. I know I'm in the minority, but its a large minority. Disney is understandably all about money, I would think the disappointing returns after the opening week of Episode 8 and the 49% Rotten Tomatoes score would be obvious to them.

I think Disney rescued the franchise from Lucas. Sorry but those prequels are almost unwatchable, as is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Suck.

I actually like the prequels and think they approach classic status when compared to the latest debacle called Episode 8. Episode 7 was cool, then Rian Johnson admittedly threw out the general story line JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan had laid out for the trilogy. It's evident over and over and over and over again that he was saying 'f**k you Star Wars fans, look how clever I am!' It's fiction writing 101, you can't completely subvert a story arc in the second act and expect it to turn out well. Rian Johnson doesn't give a shit what Star Wars is about, what it represents, it was just a say for him to push his ego AND Kathleen Kennedy's neo-feminist agenda on everyone.

Are you sure about this? Has there been a new press release? I haven't seen anything since November.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure. That's why I said supposedly. I read it in an article that reportedly had inside information. Kathleen Kennedy is a stubborn witch though. She can go to hell also.
