  1. The comedy, sense of fun and them not taking themselves too seriously as people while still taking their craft completely seriously as musicians is a big part of what attracted me to Rush, so hard disagree there!

  2. Well, this is an unexpected surprise. Both songs are very good.

    Really? OK I'll check out.

    A quick CSB:

In 1999 my band got to play a "secret" show at the Roxy in Hollywood. On the bill? Disturbed and System of a Down. We were the "closeliner" and were the last band on the bill.

It was JAMMED. Beautiful women everywhere. Rick Rubin seated with a bunch of babes. Both bands were really really good. System was so high energy. Just awesome.

When it came time for us to play, the ENTIRE venue cleared out like stink bomb went off, before we played a note!

    LOL.

    What was your band's name?

    Soulcracker

Hey, I remember your band from that VH1 show!

  3. I greatly dislike changing the clock twice a year. I find it to be highly disruptive to my circadian rhythm, and it can take me weeks to adapt to it. This exacerbates chronic health issues from which I have suffered for many years. Personally, I would prefer to stay with what is currently Daylight Savings Time because I like having more light in the evening. Changing it by 30 minutes to split the difference might be good except that I think it would cause problems if our clocks were 30 minutes out from the rest of the world's. What do you think?

  4. RTB......utter, utter shite.

And here was I thinking you were a big fan of the Roll the Bones "rap"...

“Fridge, relax! Get busy with the crap”

The rap becomes more and more shite over the years.

I blame Rupert Hine for allowing them to do that. If I'd have been the producer I'd have said, "you're not doing that on one of my records."

As producer I would’ve said, “Boys, I know you’re just takin’ the piss with this rap but it’s got to go.”

I can imagine Fridge dancing to it right after he called the album a pile of crap, and really humping the stereo like a misguided RUSH Casanova, that's right Fridge wants to f**k the Roll the Bones rap!

If by f***ing it you mean ramming a sawn -off shotgun up it's fetid, putrescent arsehole and squeezing the trigger as hard as I can then you would be quite correct....

:eyeroll: My but you do have a flare for the melodramatic, don't you?

There's nothing mellow about Fridge!

  5. Inspired by the "What's the hype about Xanadu" thread, I thought it would be fun to have a thread in which people can choose a song they want to talk about, and discuss anything, big or small, that they like about it.

I'll start. Here is "Acres Wild" by Jethro Tull.

This is a song that I can seldom listen to only once. I usually find myself having to hit "repeat" at the end at least a few times. I love the bouncy feel of it, the dramatic violin and the "wooooos" under the dramatic violin. I also love the evocative imagery. I'm not certain where the Winged Isle is, nor exactly what is meant by "Northern father's Western child", but it calls to me somehow, and the song as a whole makes me envision it as the destination to which Ian Anderson as the Pied Piper is leading a bunch of hippies on a frolic through a wild countryside and a decrepit Northern England mining town.

  6. Wait....

Is Foghat supposed to be a play on the word "forgot?" Like, said with a country accent, "Oh I foghat about that!" That would be better then just putting two random words together...

I always thought it might be a play on "Fuckkit!" However, according to Wikipedia, "The new line-up was named "Foghat" (a nonsense word from a Scrabble-like game played by Peverett and his brother) in January 1971." Which has a citation but still might not be true.

I voted for James Gang in the poll, but Foghat gets special mention for a bit of merch a friend of mine wore throughout 12th grade after seeing them in concert: a hat that simply said FOG on it. I find that sort of thing amusing, I do.

And finally, in my RushFanForever moment, I give you this:

  7. That's really impressive, VT! I'd love to try my hand at growing a little but that's illegal in NJ.

Not for too much longer...Gov. Murphy is on the case.

Since part of the pitch for legalisation is increased tax revenue I imagine growing will still be a no-no. Though maybe not on the very small scale I would be doing? We'll see.

  9. How could you miss, 73? Go and practice. I'm so sorry, Ibanez. Do you mind waiting in SOCN?

You find it's easy to make yourself invisible. You can defy time and space, and you can turn violent criminals into frogs.

Oh yes, I am most certainly invisible. People pass me by in the street without a glance in my direction. Even now you yourself, you do hardly notice me.

This often ignored minority is very rarely brought to the attention of the general public. The average man in the street scarcely gives a second thought to these extremely well-off people.

Er...I forget my name for the moment but I am a merchant banker.

Must be a king. He hasn't got shit all over him.

Blackhawkrush, a man who is so totally and utterly wonderful, that I would rather be sealed in a pit of my own filth, than dare tread on the same forum with him.

I asked Ken 73 Verybigliar the advantages of hypnosis compared to other building methods...

Did you see somebody go past the window?

Oh no dear, it was just the electric blanket switching off.

Some nights it was so cold, we could hardly move, but 73'd be out there slicing the lemons, mixing the sugar...

Oh 73, and I thought you were so rugged!

Are you calling my old fictional comrade-in-arms a fairy?

I cut down trees, I wear high heels, suspendees and a bra!

    How's the nude lady?

  10. Nova Carmina...

Red Barchetta is the worst on Moving Pictures? Well then, you got yourself a masterpiece album! :rage:

It is a masterpiece album, no doubt. And my distaste for "Red Barchetta" is relative to other Rush songs. For whatever reason, it doesn't move me. I'd sooner hear dozens of other Rush tracks instead.

I felt this way about Red Barchetta as an album track, but 21st century Red Barchetta live 21 wonderful times made me a believer  Geddy's vocal struggles and all!
