Since this thread also contains cute anecdotes, here's one: As my son and I walked the dog, I explained to him why our mutt sniffed EVERYWHERE. I told him that she was checking to see what other dogs had passed through the neighborhood and "left their mark", which I also explained. We even came up with our own phrase for it. Ever since then, whenever we see her investigating trees, bushes, utility poles, etc. he always comments that Oprah (yes, that's her name), is "checking her P-mail".
