  1. Apologize for the not-quite-necropost, but I thought I should mention that Babymetal will be performing with Rob Halford of Judas Priest at the APMAs in Columbus, Ohio July 18th:

    http://www.blabbermo...s-music-awards/

Also, because it's not in this thread yet, here's their first single off their new album (less than three months after release and already 15,000,000+ views):

    http://youtu.be/GvD3CHA48pA

And here's a live one with their actual backing band:

Oh, and Rob Zombie is a fan: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/rob-zombie-on-watching-babymetal-perform-it-was-like-nothing-i-had-ever-seen-before/

Zombie made headlines last week after he defended BABYMETAL against online criticism, saying that the Japanese group has "more energy than 90 percent of the bands we play with."

Last weekend, Zombie met BABYMETAL at the Carolina Rebellion festival in Concord, North Carolina. He then posted a snapshot of them together backstage to his Facebook page, much to the chagrin of many of his fans.

After one fan called BABYMETAL "a shameful embarrassment to anything metal," Rob responded: "Hey, they are nice kids out on the road touring. What are you doing besides being a grumpy old f**k?"

Another fan wrote: "[BABYMETAL] are awful. This is lame. I love you, Rob, but shame on you." Rob fired back with: "They roll harder than you."

A third fan said: "Are you kidding me, Rob? BABYMETAL is J-pop, not metal. But to each their own, I guess." Zombie countered with: "These three girls had more energy than 90 percent of the bands we play with."

BABYMETAL addressed the photo in a comment on the Facebook photo. They wrote: “Thank you Rob! The Spirit of HEAVY METAL traversed across the World, rose above language barriers, went beyond generations and created countless legends. See you again at Northern Invasion!"

  2. Well, the issue has already been solved, but I also have to add my own "no" to the OP.

That said, I also want to mention that I had taken my then almost 6 year old to see Rush during the R30 tour. It was at an amphitheater (RIP Polaris Amphitheater in Columbus, Ohio), which mitigated the sound issue somewhat (we were on the lawn). I also took along a set of earplugs for him. About 2 minutes after the show started, he asked to take them out because he couldn't hear the music.

His next concert was Clockwork Angels, this time, at an indoor arena.

These are still the only two concerts he's ever been to. He won't be going this year, unless he can get there on his own. He's still in Ohio and I've moved to South Carolina, and will be seeing Rush in Greensboro.

Would have been nice to take him to see R40...

  3. Except for the first one (which is my number one of all time), these are in no particular order

    Deus Ex

Homeworld (classic version - currently playing the remastered version)

(Tie) The entire Baldur's Gate series and Planescape: Torment

    Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Heavily modded Skyrim (200+ mods and the game looks gorgeous)

    Honorable mentions:

    Freespace 1 and 2

    Fallout 3

Dragon Age: Origins and (so far) Dragon Age: Inquisition

    Mechwarrior 4 + expansions

Crimson Skies (Unfortunately, due to odd-size textures in the game, it doesn't play on modern video cards any more)

    Bioshock

Grim Fandango (remaster coming out later this year)

Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos

    Neverwinter Nights 2

No One Lives Forever (highlight: main character riding on the back of a tricycle while a huge Scotsman in a kilt pedals, chasing a midget mime on a unicycle)

No One Lives Forever 2 (highlight: swordfight with katanas against a female ninja in a trailer from a trailer park in Akron, Ohio during a tornado. Yes, the trailer gets picked up and tossed around in the air)

    Pharoah

    The Witcher

These are all games that I have replayed multiple times, and will continue to replay as long as my computer will support them. Deus Ex I have played at least once per year since it was released, and still use my original game disc to play it with (actually, I play all of my games with the original discs, with the exception of VtMB, as I bought that game from Steam)

  4. Currently playing: Homeworld: Remastered

    Games still in progress:

    The Witcher 2

    Dragon Age Inquisition

    Bioshock Infinite

Kerbal Space Program (beta v. 0.9-something)

    Looking forward to:

    The Witcher 3

    Grim Fandango Remastered

    Full release Kerbal Space Program

Opinion of HW:R: Game available on Steam, and includes Homeworld: Remastered, Homeworld 2: Remastered, Homeworld Classic, and Homeworld 2 Classic. Only playing the first game so far.

Homeworld has been ported into the HW2 engine, and suffers somewhat in the translation. Formations that are familiar to players of the classic version are broken. Salvage corvettes are limited to 14, and weapons fire went from actual physics to die-roll. HUD is different from HW:C, similar to HW2:C, but better. No more need to wait around at the end of a mission to gather resources, as they are now automatically gathered when you hyperspace out of the mission, but you *can* go the slow route if you wish. More resources per level, which is balanced by needing resources to research, as well as some higher costs for ships.

Graphics are fantastic, and support up to 4k resolutions (I'm playing at 1920x1080).

Music has been completely remastered, and they brought back the original voice actress for Karan S'Jet/Fleet Command and voice actor for Fleet Intelligence. Sadly, Cambell Lane died several years ago, and so the voice of the Bentusi is just remastered from his original dialogue recordings. Also, the Yes song (Homeworld) The Ladder is not included in the credits of the remastered edition as it was on the original game, due to licensing issues.

Story is the same - they haven't added or taken away from anything.

Gameplay is very similar to the original, aside from the caveats mentioned above. You can now issue orders while paused (pause button moved from the P-key to the Pause/Break key), and the new interface allows you to see the game playing while in the build/research/launch screen (or you can pause while doing those).

Some bugs have been reported ranging from minor stuff to CTDs. However, I have not experienced any bugs, aside from formations being borked - the formations buttons are there, and your fighters will go into claw formation when not fighting, but once a furball breaks out, formation discipline goes out the window. Sphere formation doesn't work at all.

Overall, I'd rate it an 8 out of 10 (my rating for the original is 9/10).

  5. 21+ minutes including two sections of just the band trading solos:

    http://youtu.be/UKK5wxu2_ao

0:40 - Headbangya (at 3:12 is when Yui takes over on lead vocal - the song is about a girl turning 15, and the show is nicknamed Legend Y, in honor of her recent 15th birthday. Presumably, Moa will do the same in Germany tomorrow (her 15th birthday is soon as well), and they are calling that one Legend M)

5:05 - Not sure which song this is

    5:46 - Uki Uki Midnight

    8:56 - First instrumental break

12:18 - Akumu No Rondo (Nightmare Rondo) (Su-metal solo)

12:50 - Onedari Daisakusen (Black Babymetal - Yuimetal and Moametal subgroup of Babymetal - apparently, the song is about a girl trying to borrow (or otherwise get) some money from her dad)

    16:10 - Second instrumental break

17:57 - Catch Me If You Can (This one is about kids playing Hide-and-Seek)

  6. So, Babymetal opened their European tour yesterday with the show in Paris. There's quite a bit of video from the show available but I will be posting compilation vids, rather than individual. Some clips are of the same song but from different angles, some are cut short in one compilation, and longer in others. They're not all in setlist order

    http://youtu.be/iygmuDbl1FQ

    List of the clips:

    Ijime, Dame, Zettai

    Doki Doki Morning

    Uki Uki Midnight

4 no Uta (Yui and Moa)

    IDZ (again)

    Babymetal Death (show opener)

    Onedari (Yui and Moa)

    Babymetal Death (again)

    http://youtu.be/RKfC9UwwsBA

Last minute or so of Megitsune

    1:17 Doki Doki Morning

4:19 Gimme Choco!! (they do it a bit faster than in the official video, and have a bit of audience participation)

  7. Yeah... just a bit of a necropost, but some new info for Babymetal... like playing the main stage with Iron Maiden and Anthrax at Sonisphere next month:

    http://sonisphere.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/FINALSONIARTWORK_4JUNE_9002.jpg

They're also playing the Heavy Montreal Festival: http://heavymontreal...grammation=grid$

And playing solo dates in Paris, Cologne (sold out), and London (sold out - upgraded to a larger venue - sold out again): http://www.bandsintown.com/BABYMETAL

Playing a solo date in L.A. at the Fonda theater: http://www.fondathea...s/detail/251359

And lastly, opening five shows for Lady Gaga: http://www.kerrang.c...port-lady-gaga/

Even Hitler likes Babymetal :laughing guy: :

  8. I think I've seen all of two episodes of DS9, and one of *those* was on the Star Trek original series discs as an updated Trouble With Tribbles episode. No complaints about that one, as I thougt they did a pretty good job integratng he original TWT footage with the new DS9 stuff.

TBH, I stopped watching anything Trek after NextGen finished, and the last of the NextGen movies.

Now, let's get off the Trek stuff and back to B5.

  9. Best scene in the series, IMO: http://youtu.be/2mURWOwkFPM

I'm probably one of the few who actually prefer Sheridan/Boxleitner to Sinclair/O'Hare.

Good scene, but "the best" I dunno. So many excellent scenes in the series that could challenge such a claim . . .

As for Sheridan/Sinclair, from my point of view, I thought the series really took off once Sheridan replaced Sinclair.

Bruce Boxleitner's Sheridan is one of my favorite sci-fi characters of all time, maybe THE favorite. Can't think of any other Sci-Fi characters that I liked more atm.

Sure. That's why I said "IMO". A couple of scenes that could challenge it both come from Susan Ivanova - "I am God" (from season 1) and "I am Death incarnate" (from, I think, season 4), the former for funsies, and the latter for seriousness.

There are also a couple of other Delenn scenes that are good, several G'Kar and Vir scenes, and even a couple of Londo scenes. *I* just happen to think that Delenn's "Be somewhere else" is the best. I'm not going to argue about something so subjective.

EDIT: BTW, anyone can search YouTube using those quoted bits to find the Ivanova scenes. I'm not going to hog the thread by posting a crapton of videos.

  10. Okay... so I see it's been a year since the last post in this thread, and 6 years since *I* last posted in it. Now that some things are more out in the open, I can show what I've been doing lately. First off, I'm still doing Honorverse work for BuNine. We have a webpage out now, and have "co-authored" a book with David Weber - House of Steel. The first 1/3 of the book is a novella from David about the early days of the military buildup of the Star Kingdom of Manticore to defend themselves against the People's Republic of Haven, who King Roger sees attacking in the near future. The rest of the book is written by various members of BuNine, and is basically historical, political, military, and organizational background info on the Star Kingdom and the Protectorate of Grayson. There are two more books planned, with the next one (House of Lies) due out later this year. This one will deal with the transition of the Republic of Haven into the People's Republic of Haven, and BuNine's contribution will cover the PRH and the Andermani Empire.

    Link to BuNine's website: www.bunine.org

So, what else is going on? Evergreen Films is making a movie based on the Honorverse (due out in 2016), Top Cow comics (best known for Witchblade) is doing Tales of Honor, a comic/graphic novel series (issue #1 goes on sale next month), and Evergreen also has an Honorverse-based mobile game coming out soon. Evergreen has a single film to its name currently - Walking With Dinosaurs. They did something similar for the BBC a couple years ago. Although WWD was pretty much panned, most of the criticism has been leveled at the voice-acting and script, neither of which were planned, but were forced on Evergreen by 20th Century Fox. The CGI work has gotten a lot of praise. Pre-production is currently going on now (mainly just concept art), but there has been no announcement of writer, director, or cast.

The first public HonorCon was held in Greenville, SC in November and I was on a couple of panels giving presentations on starship design and function over form in the Honorverse.

Since the last time I posted here, I've gotten a lot more inside info on Honorverse ships and weapons due to my association with BuNine, and have improved a bit in my modeling, to the point where I even have an animation. Still can't texture/UV map to save my life, but the way I model, and the way Honorverse ships are built means there isn't really a lot of texturing needed. Any markings needed are strictly decals, which are pretty easy to do in Blender, or just different-color materials, if I can set the mesh up for it.

I'm just going to post links to where you can see my latest work, rather than post it here in the thread. The Flickr link has everything. The DeviantArt link has some of the images from Flickr, but nothing that can't be seen at the Flickr link, and the YouTube link is the same video at Flickr. So, basically, Flickr is the only place you'll really need to go, but it would be nice to have the view counts at DA and YT :D

    Flickr: http://www.flickr.co...s/98864503@N05/

    DeviantArt: http://maxxqbunine.deviantart.com/gallery/

Eh,,, what the hell. Here's the YT video: http://youtu.be/fy8e-3lrKGE

BTW, I have a new video rendering out as I type. It's been running 24/7 since December 16th, and if my calculations are correct, it should be finished in another 10-12 days. It'll be 3m 20s long - 6000 frames at 30fps. The first 600 frames or so were only taking about 2m 30s to render. The last 2000 have been taking up to 48 minutes each to render. I have 360 frames left to render, and they're taking between 38 and 41 minutes to render.

Anyway, I hope anyone who sees this likes what they see.

  11. *****Spoilers if you haven't gotten more than halfway through season 3*****

Best scene in the series, IMO: http://youtu.be/2mURWOwkFPM

Just recently (as in yesterday) started watching again. This'll be my fourth time seeing the entire series, not including the intermittent times I saw it during its original run. Season 3 is my favorite.

I'm probably one of the few who actually prefer Sheridan/Boxleitner to Sinclair/O'Hare.

  12. One that no one has mentioned yet:

    Aliens

    "Game over, man! Game over!"

"Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?"

"Great! Why don't we put *her* in charge?"

"Hey Vasquez... you ever been mistaken for a man?" "No. Have you?"

"And you, you little s**t... you're staying here."

"Man, I *love* the corps! Every meal's a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade!"

    "Hicks, sir... he's Hudson."

"Guess she don't like the cornbread either."

"I like to keep this handy for close encounters."

    "Let's rock!"

"Maybe we could build a campfire... sit around and sing a few songs?"

    "Aye-firmative."

"It's getting dark. They mostly come out at night. Mostly."

And the best line of all: "Get away from her, you BITCH!"

  13. Haven't really needed it yet, but I'm aware of it. I currently have something like 50-odd books on my Nook, all either purchased from the Baen website (eARCs of the newer Honor Harrington books), or have been transferred from the CD that came with a couple of previous hardcovers in the Honorverse series. Baen offers all formats and the CD contains all format version of all the books. Nice thing is, the CD specifies that it can be copied and distributed as much as you want, as long as you don't charge for it. They're all by David Weber, or collaborations between Weber and other authors. I think other Baen authors have done the same thing, and there are a few books they carry by other authors I still need to get.

There's about 40 books or so that are available basically for free on the Honorverse CD. But it's not like I don't already own the dead tree versions of the Honorverse series anyway - in fact, I've bought everything available twice, as I got the entire series for my daughter as well. While my Nook is convenient for reading while travelling, or during breaks at work, I still like to have a physical book to read at home as well. I may not make much money, but I can still afford to do this, so why not?

Here's a link to the Baen Free Library: http://www.baenebooks.com/c-1-free-library.aspx

All the books available there are the complete books, and are completely free. Some that used to be available for free aren't free anymore. You can read about it at the above link.
