  1. Apologize for the not-quite-necropost, but I thought I should mention that Babymetal will be performing with Rob Halford of Judas Priest at the APMAs in Columbus, Ohio July 18th: http://www.blabbermo...s-music-awards/ Also, because it's not in this thread yet, here's their first single off their new album (less than three months after release and already 15,000,000+ views): http://youtu.be/GvD3CHA48pA And here's a live one with their actual backing band: http://youtu.be/TZRvO0S-TLU Oh, and Rob Zombie is a fan: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/rob-zombie-on-watching-babymetal-perform-it-was-like-nothing-i-had-ever-seen-before/
  2. See you at Wembley! http://www.kerrang.com/35015/babymetal-headline-londons-sse-arena-wembley/
  3. To Cleveland from Columbus for RTB. Will beat that this year, traveling from Greer, SC to Greensboro, NC.
  4. Well, the issue has already been solved, but I also have to add my own "no" to the OP. That said, I also want to mention that I had taken my then almost 6 year old to see Rush during the R30 tour. It was at an amphitheater (RIP Polaris Amphitheater in Columbus, Ohio), which mitigated the sound issue somewhat (we were on the lawn). I also took along a set of earplugs for him. About 2 minutes after the show started, he asked to take them out because he couldn't hear the music. His next concert was Clockwork Angels, this time, at an indoor arena. These are still the only two concerts he's ever been to. He won't be going this year, unless he can get there on his own. He's still in Ohio and I've moved to South Carolina, and will be seeing Rush in Greensboro. Would have been nice to take him to see R40...
  5. 21+ minutes including two sections of just the band trading solos: http://youtu.be/UKK5wxu2_ao 0:40 - Headbangya (at 3:12 is when Yui takes over on lead vocal - the song is about a girl turning 15, and the show is nicknamed Legend Y, in honor of her recent 15th birthday. Presumably, Moa will do the same in Germany tomorrow (her 15th birthday is soon as well), and they are calling that one Legend M) 5:05 - Not sure which song this is 5:46 - Uki Uki Midnight 8:56 - First instrumental break 12:18 - Akumu No Rondo (Nightmare Rondo) (Su-metal solo) 12:50 - Onedari Daisakusen (Black Babymetal - Yuimetal and Moametal subgroup of Babymetal - apparently, the song is about a girl trying to borrow (or otherwise get) some money from her dad) 16:10 - Second instrumental break 17:57 - Catch Me If You Can (This one is about kids playing Hide-and-Seek)
  6. Gimme Choco!! by itself from the floor (full): http://youtu.be/1Lysvg2v_BU Akatsuki (Su-Metal solo song) with dueling guitar solo: http://youtu.be/dWU_bTQWwsE
  7. So, Babymetal opened their European tour yesterday with the show in Paris. There's quite a bit of video from the show available but I will be posting compilation vids, rather than individual. Some clips are of the same song but from different angles, some are cut short in one compilation, and longer in others. They're not all in setlist order http://youtu.be/iygmuDbl1FQ List of the clips: Ijime, Dame, Zettai Doki Doki Morning Uki Uki Midnight 4 no Uta (Yui and Moa) IDZ (again) Babymetal Death (show opener) Onedari (Yui and Moa) Babymetal Death (again) http://youtu.be/RKfC9UwwsBA Last minute or so of Megitsune 1:17 Doki Doki Morning 4:19 Gimme Choco!! (they do it a bit faster than in the official video, and have a bit of audience participation)
  8. First heard this back in 1995 when it was first played on the morning show at WLVQ (where Dan Orr is the morning show producer). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lekzEUfCto&feature=share&list=PLfMpPvF2SdBMBxpSFDHr9WhzsRgob9Nfi&index=2 :laughing guy: :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

  11. Oh... if you like your kawaii metal to be a little less "kawaii" and a little more metal, there's Babymetal Death: http://youtu.be/EKfp9aKu1Mo Their "Roll the Bones" (watch the entire thing, and you'll get what I mean): http://youtu.be/qVdBBOpSoN4 Kitsune up!

  14. I think I've seen all of two episodes of DS9, and one of *those* was on the Star Trek original series discs as an updated Trouble With Tribbles episode. No complaints about that one, as I thougt they did a pretty good job integratng he original TWT footage with the new DS9 stuff. TBH, I stopped watching anything Trek after NextGen finished, and the last of the NextGen movies. Now, let's get off the Trek stuff and back to B5.
  15. Good scene, but "the best" I dunno. So many excellent scenes in the series that could challenge such a claim . . . As for Sheridan/Sinclair, from my point of view, I thought the series really took off once Sheridan replaced Sinclair. Bruce Boxleitner's Sheridan is one of my favorite sci-fi characters of all time, maybe THE favorite. Can't think of any other Sci-Fi characters that I liked more atm. Sure. That's why I said "IMO". A couple of scenes that could challenge it both come from Susan Ivanova - "I am God" (from season 1) and "I am Death incarnate" (from, I think, season 4), the former for funsies, and the latter for seriousness. There are also a couple of other Delenn scenes that are good, several G'Kar and Vir scenes, and even a couple of Londo scenes. *I* just happen to think that Delenn's "Be somewhere else" is the best. I'm not going to argue about something so subjective. EDIT: BTW, anyone can search YouTube using those quoted bits to find the Ivanova scenes. I'm not going to hog the thread by posting a crapton of videos.
  16. *****Spoilers if you haven't gotten more than halfway through season 3***** Best scene in the series, IMO: http://youtu.be/2mURWOwkFPM Just recently (as in yesterday) started watching again. This'll be my fourth time seeing the entire series, not including the intermittent times I saw it during its original run. Season 3 is my favorite. I'm probably one of the few who actually prefer Sheridan/Boxleitner to Sinclair/O'Hare.
  17. One that no one has mentioned yet: Aliens "Game over, man! Game over!" "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?" "Great! Why don't we put *her* in charge?" "Hey Vasquez... you ever been mistaken for a man?" "No. Have you?" "And you, you little s**t... you're staying here." "Man, I *love* the corps! Every meal's a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade!" "Hicks, sir... he's Hudson." "Guess she don't like the cornbread either." "I like to keep this handy for close encounters." "Let's rock!" "Maybe we could build a campfire... sit around and sing a few songs?" "Aye-firmative." "It's getting dark. They mostly come out at night. Mostly." And the best line of all: "Get away from her, you BITCH!"

    skyfall

Saw Skyfall this past weekend. Bought it, as well as the Bond 50 BluRay set. Been watching one movie per night since Monday, followed by the bonus features for each film. Lots of fun to watch, especially Thunderball tonight, as I've only ever seen that one twice before a couple decades ago. I can't comment on QoS, since it's the only Bond film I have not seen yet, but I though CR was good and Skyfall was... different. Definitely not the Bond I grew up watching, but still very good. First Bond film I ever saw in the theater was The Man With the Golden Gun (I was not quite 10 years old), so I have a soft spot for Moore's Bond. That said, I also think that Connery was the best, and Lazenby was the worst. I'm one of the few I know of that kinda liked the darker direction Dalton took Bond, although it was hard to not keep picturing him as Prince Barin from Flash Gordon. Moore was getting a bit too campy with the last couple films he did, so making Bond a little more serious with Dalton was a nice change. Brosnan was a decent mix of the camp of Moore and the seriousness of Dalton, but Connery just always seemed to pull it off better than anyone. Again, I like the darker, more serious direction Craig has taken the character, but I think there needs to be just a tiny bit more (very dry) humor.
  19. 80-90 pages worth of Joesamaniac - ah, such a loss to thread-dom. Hmmm... I need to get meself an avatar pic. Maybe I'll change the shuttle one I used at CP to the one Moop gave me at TriNet. :laughing guy:
  20. indeed. Grizz will rise from the dead, revealing the Truth about 9/11 Truthers. Ouchie will return as a gentile anti-semite being treated for Asperger's. DotS will type and talk like a normal person so that I may take her off Ignore. And Manic will return as the best AL moderator ever. It will be a little slice of cyber-heaven. And you will be nice to Al! Maybe even Hemi will come back, driving his Illegal-Immigrant Welcome-Wagon! Just think, the entire Elevatorgate thread is gone. The world is a better place for that. Too bad the entire interweb cannot be erased and rebooted. I was hoping ATW would join Hemi, actually. Oh, well... can't have everything, I guess. :laughing guy: Here's hoping *some* version of CP comes back to life

QUOTE (workingcinderellaman @ Aug 28 2008, 03:46 PM) QUOTE (MaxxQ @ Aug 28 2008, 11:20 AM) Trust me...read the book and you'll see how much of a travesty the "movie" was. This is true for almost every movie made from a good book. The solution is to watch the movie first, then read the book and you'll like them both. I have disliked all Clancy movies except Patriot Games and The Hunt for Red October. And even those two were not nearly as good as the books. But as far as movies go, they were pretty good. I have never read the Starship Troopers book, but I enjoyed the movie. I wouldn't say it was great or anything so if the book was good, I probably would have hated the movie. I understand that it's true of most book-to-movie adaptations. I also happen to agree with your examples, although I happen to think Red October was AS GOOD as the book, while somewhat different. Another good example is The Lord of the Rings. I have nothing against adaptations, but to completely ignore half the book, and basically put your own interpretation of the half you DID read smacks of incompetence, ego, and ignores the sensibilities of the people who HAVE read the book, and are expecting something that at least RESEMBLES what they read. Again, look at LotR. The movies deviated from the books in quite a few ways, and while the purists complained, I had no problem with it, because they still kept the SPIRIT of the books. That's not saying I'm a Starship Troopers (the book) purist, because I'm not. I just wanted to see a film that was similar enough to what I had read that it would be recognizable. Starship Poopers (the movie) failed in that regard. Had it not purportedly been based on the book, I would probably have liked it.

QUOTE (Del_Duio @ Aug 28 2008, 10:34 AM) QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Aug 28 2008, 12:42 AM) QUOTE (MaxxQ @ Aug 28 2008, 12:52 AM) I'm probably going to catch all kinds of hell for this, but I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO EVER SEE (again - once was once too much) that pile of steaming crap know as Starship Troopers. That waste of celluloid had NOTHING in common with the classic and fantastic Robert A. Heinlein book except the name. Even the director (Paul Verhoeven) admitted he only read HALF the book, because it got too depressing. I got into a debate about this so-called "film" over at CP, and said, (and I'll repeat it here, because it bears repeating) that Heinlein is probably spinning in his grave so fast, his bones are pressed to the sides of the casket due to centripetal force. All copies of that movie should be buried in the desert alongside those millions of Atari ET games, and then the entire area sealed off as a toxic waste dump. No argument here, although at the time, the visual effects were pretty good. But not good enough to want to see it again. I also agree about Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. Hey, look at that, both directed by Michael Bay! Since making The Rock (pretty good movie with a good cast) he has failed to make a coherent film. I actually really enjoyed Starship Troopers but I never read any books about it and had no expectations going into the theatre. Trust me...read the book and you'll see how much of a travesty the "movie" was. Admittedly, the book itself was pretty controversial when it was written back in 1959. But if you can get by that, it's still a great read, and in some ways, eerily prophetic. Particularly in the in-book discussion of juvenile delinquents and the gang problems of the latter quarter of the 20th century. Not to mention, the movie completely ignored the best part of the book - the power armor.

Generally, I don't mind remakes so much, as long as they have some relationship to the original movie, but this one should NOT have been called Rollerball. If I can ever get around the fact of it's title, I MIGHT be able to enjoy it more. Amnesia causing me to forget that I ever saw the original might be the way for that to happen. Like someone else here, I'm also gonna get in a pre-emptive strike against Death Race, since it fails my criteria mentioned above. Might as well include the remakes of The Day the Earth Stood Still, Rocky Horror Picture Show (now with more songs added!!!), and possibly 2001, although I have some slim hopes about this one, until I hear more about it. Oh, and I agree with the poster above me. As far as I'm concerned, the Alien series ended with Aliens (outstanding movie - not to mention, I knew the father of the girl that ALMOST played Newt - the studio wanted her, but she didn't want to do it, so they went with their second choice).
