  1. I'm a huge Yes fan. Close to the Edge is among the best 10 albums ever (imho). The previous album, Fly From Here is surprisingly good too. Give it a good listen. The new singer ain't bad at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tapx0WlouJM
  2. Can't rank this album as it's an entity. Pure perfection. But if I have to name one song it'd be Red Tide. Such an underrated gem.
  3. I expressed my opinion that having wrong sales figures in the RIAA site for two full decades is totally weird and unprofessional from a band of Rush's caliber. And it's a cold, hard FACT that this wrong figure is getting quoted absolutely everywhere... concert promotions, television, Wikipedia, etc. How is expressing that opinion offensive and "ridiculous"? How can someone take offense from that and call it "trolling"? Are you friggin' serious? :D
  4. I have a hard time believing that anyone can care about this. Are you trying to troll the forum? Ah... is disagreeing with another poster and having a different opinion called "trolling" now? I've been a member of this forum since 2007. I think I'm perfectly entitled to my opinion. Of course you're entitled to your opinion. I just think it's a little ridiculous; in my eyes it's the equivalent of caring about public opinion polls Ooooh....that's a bit savage. I feel all sleighted.....does that mean the prom dance is a no-no then?
  5. I have a hard time believing that anyone can care about this. Are you trying to troll the forum? Ah... is disagreeing with another poster and having a different opinion called "trolling" now? Never been a big poster but I've been a member of this forum since 2007. Six full years longer than you, for example. I think I'm perfectly entitled to my opinion and I'm certainly not "trolling". I personally think it's really pathetic and sad to be quoted with totally wrong sales figures everywhere. The other poster think it's not. Well... that doesn't make him right... just a disagreeable fellow. Capiche?
  6. I disagree. You think it's "cool" in a perverse way. I think it's just stupid. Setting correct numbers in the RIAA stats is not "bending over" to the industry. It's claiming the records that BELONG to them. I think it'd be EXTREMELY COOL to show that they have sold 60 million albums without being "corporate whores" to the industry. That's a HUGE achievement. Now they can boast that they have sold "half as much", which is just ridiculous and untrue.
  7. Keeping wrong sales figures in the RIAA stats for two decades doesn't mean anything? Personally I think it's quite pathetic. Like it or not, record sales mean a LOT in popular music... marketing... tour advertising and all that. It's also one kind of achievement that deserves to be noted. Especially for a band like Rush that doesn't have even one hit song. :D
  8. I understand that. Does it cost millions to update this information? I find it weird as almost all other (top) bands do it frequently. I've been watching those figures and almost all other bands' sales figures keep growing annually. But when it comes to Rush, even Wikipedia quotes these totally wrong numbers from 20 years ago.
  9. I mean really. How can it really take 20 years to update these figures? They haven't been busy that's for sure.
  10. 1. The Garden 2. The Wreckers 3. Headlong Flight 4. BU2B 5. Halo Effect 6. Caravan 7. The Anarchist 8. Clockwork Angels 9. Carnies 10.Wish Them Well 11. Seven Cities of Gold 12. BU2B2
  11. No, I'm just an average guy from Europe. I'm in my mid-30's and been a Rush fan since 1991 when I heard Presto and A Show of Hands. I played a bit of drums and guitar in my teens... and up until that moment Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were my favorite bands. I didn't even want to discuss other bands... but ASOH CD (and that VHS version) changed absolutely EVERYTHING. You see I've watched that VHS tape probably 2000 times. I even had to buy it three times as the tape got damaged. It's absolutely incredible and (imho) Rush at their creative and musical peak. Marathon, Spirit of Radio, Prime Mover and Manhattan Project versions in that concert absolutely blow me away. Marathon especially... in that concert they completely "nailed" it. It's a MASSIVE song. Too bad the picture quality isn't that great by today's standards. https://www.youtube....h?v=rP58U_R3gK0 As mentioned in another thread: I didn't like Presto at first... it sounded a little bit like Journey, Van Hagar and Toto at first... the production is weird... the sound is thin and it sounds "poppy" at first. But it's not. It's probably their most "complex" album of them all. I've been through Mahavishnus, Yes, King Crimson, Zappa, etc. but Presto was one of the toughest albums to "get". It took me about 20 listens before it finally "clicked". I think it's their most under appreciated masterpiece. As much as I love the 70's stuff, I think they made their best work between Signals and Presto. Roll the Bones was a HUGE disappointiment. Huge. Counterparts was pretty good but only Clockwork Angels resparked the fire to me. That's a great, great album. And I don't rank Moving Pictures even into my own top-5. Here's my list of their favorite albums: 1. Presto 2. Power Windows 3. Hold Your Fire 4. Grace Under Pressure 5. Clockwork Angels 6. Signals 7. Moving Pictures 8. Counterparts 9. Permanent Waves 10.2112 What makes Rush interesting is that even the fans can have completely different opinion about their material... and how they rank Rush's material. From the new album I love The Wreckers and Garden most. I love when they have keyboards and get that "massive sound wall" there. It's very emotional stuff... like Middletown Dreams. The 70's Rush is great... great skill, great solos, great talent... creativity... but to me the old stuff is lacking just that... emotion. Other people might see it differently. Hehe... I couldn't describe this better.
  12. Not in particular order. MARATHON Prime mover (the ASOH live version... pure perfection) Subdivisions The Analog Kid Red Tide The Pass Superconductor (yes really... I love that song) War Paint (as you can see I'm a Presto nut(case)) Afterimage Manhattan Project The Garden The Wreckers Cold Fire Red Sector A Double Agent Mission Middletown Dreams Turn the Page Natural Science Chain Lightning
  13. Yeah Presto is really their most underrated work ever. Maybe it's the "thin" sound that puts people off. Another weird thing is that Presto is pretty complex album. It's "hard to get" if you know what I mean. It seems to be poppy and catchy but it's really not. I've been through Mahavishnu Orchestras, King Crimsons, Yes and all that... but still I think Presto is one of those records that required most repetations before "I got it". Weird.
  14. I'm probably going to get nailed for this as most Rush fans hate DMB. Dave Matthews Band: Before These Crowded Streets- It's a great album (although I prefer most of their 90's live albums even more). I don't like their new stuff that much. another great one is Roger Waters "Amused to Death". A masterpiece and if it was a Pink Floyd album I'd rank it #2 right after The Wall.
  15. Working Man Beneath, Between and Behind The Necromancer 2112 Xanadu La Villa Strangiato Natural Science The Camera Eye The Analog Kid Afterimage Marathon Prime Mover Red Tide Dreamline Cut to the Chase Test for Echo Earthshine Armor and Sword The Garden
  16. Red Tide. I don't understand why nobody ever talks about this one. Great lyrics, amazing guitar, amazing drums. It's weird. It's a masterpiece, as is the whole Presto album.
  17. Hi there, long time no see... I just went to check RIAA's site and Rush has still the same amount of albums sold as they had 20 years ago (back in 1994). Apparently they haven't sold one single album since the Counterparts tour... or is there some other reason they want to keep outdated record sales information over there? Not a big deal but I find it really weird as other bands' sales figures get updated frequently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists_in_the_United_States Cheers.
  18. Red Tide. Amazing, powerful song and great lyrics.
